First check the YouTube player, browser or app, device volume, and selected sound output. If those are working, find out whether the silence affects one viewer or several, then check whether audio is present in the encoder preview or a local recording. That sequence helps separate a playback problem from an audio-source or mixer-routing problem; a silent StreamShark-to-YouTube stream does not by itself prove StreamShark is at fault.

1. Check the YouTube player and your device

If only you cannot hear the stream, start with playback settings before changing the broadcast. YouTube’s advice is to make sure sound or volume is turned on for your browser or device: YouTube Help: How to fix no sound on YouTube.

  • Check that the YouTube player is not muted and its volume slider is up.
  • Check that the browser tab, browser, or YouTube app is not muted.
  • Raise the device’s output volume and confirm that sound is going to the speakers or headphones you intend to use.
  • If sound is still missing, restart the browser or app; if needed, restart the device.

Try another video or a different audio source on the same device. If those are silent too, the issue is more likely with the device’s playback setup than with this particular live stream.

2. Establish who is affected and where audio disappears

Ask another viewer to check the same stream, ideally from a different device or network. YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance says that a report from one viewer probably points to that viewer’s computer or internet connection, while reports from viewers on different connections can point toward the encoder: YouTube Help: Troubleshoot your YouTube live stream.

What you observe What to check next
One viewer hears nothing; others hear the stream That viewer’s player, browser or app, device output selection, volume, and connection.
Several viewers on separate connections hear nothing The broadcaster’s encoder output, selected audio sources, mute state, and mixer routing.
The encoder preview or local recording is also silent The audio source and routing inside the encoder; the sound is missing before it reaches YouTube.
The encoder preview and local recording have audio, but multiple viewers report silence Compare the YouTube watch page and other playback routes, record the evidence, and contact the relevant provider or encoder support.

A second player or embedded playback route can help you compare what is happening, but a difference between players is a diagnostic clue, not proof that the embed or StreamShark is the cause. StreamShark’s support material covers its player and live-chat features, but does not establish a universal StreamShark-to-YouTube no-audio defect or a guaranteed fix: Embedding the StreamShark Video Player and How to Use Live Chat and Moderation.

3. Check the encoder’s audio signal

If multiple viewers are affected, or the encoder preview is silent, inspect the signal at its source. StreamShark’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance recommends checking captured sources and the software mixer: StreamShark: Troubleshooting a Live Stream: What You Need to Know.

  1. Listen to the encoder preview. If available, also check a local recording or archive of the output.
  2. Confirm the intended microphone, desktop audio, or other source is selected and enabled.
  3. Check that the source and the relevant mixer channel are not muted, and that the mixer level is not effectively zero.
  4. Review routing: the source must feed the audio mix that is actually sent to the stream, not merely be visible in the scene or device list.
  5. If multiple sources are captured, such as microphone and desktop audio, check each one separately and adjust the software mixer so the intended signal reaches the output.

If the encoder preview and local recording are silent, changing YouTube playback settings will not restore audio that never entered the encoder mix. Fix the source or routing first, then confirm the preview or a new recording has sound.

4. If you use OBS, verify the microphone and audio settings

Add the webcam microphone as an audio source when needed

A webcam’s video source does not necessarily bring its microphone into the mix. StreamShark’s OBS guide says to add the webcam microphone as an audio source in OBS settings and adjust its level in the mixer: StreamShark: How to Add a Webcam in OBS. Check the source selection and mixer meter while speaking; the meter should respond if OBS is receiving that microphone.

Check the audio bitrate setting for the selected transcode resolution

StreamShark’s OBS guide lists these audio bitrate settings by transcode resolution. They are configuration values in that guide, not proof that a bitrate mismatch is the cause of total silence: StreamShark Support: How to Live Stream Using OBS.

Transcode resolution Audio bitrate listed in StreamShark’s guide
240p or 360p 96 Kbps
480p, 720p, 1080p, 1440p, or 2160p 128 Kbps

Use the value associated with the resolution selected for your workflow. Then verify that the audio source is active and routed into the stream; a bitrate setting cannot substitute for a working audio signal.

5. If the sound is still missing

When the encoder preview and a local recording both have sound but several viewers on separate connections still report silence, preserve the comparison rather than making several unrelated changes at once. YouTube advises reporting continuing live-stream issues through its troubleshooting guidance.

  • Note whether the problem affects one viewer or multiple viewers on different connections.
  • Record whether audio is present in the encoder preview and local recording.
  • Include the event details, encoder name, and any relevant error indicators when contacting the streaming provider or encoder support.

That evidence helps support teams distinguish a local playback issue from a problem farther along the broadcast path. The available guidance does not establish one guaranteed repair for every StreamShark-to-YouTube no-audio case.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is a 24/7 YouTube stream made from uploaded recordings rather than a live microphone or camera, StreamNeo is a separate cloud option. It plays uploaded videos, so it is not a fix for a missing microphone signal in an active StreamShark or OBS broadcast.

  1. Upload a recording or build a playlist.
  2. Add your YouTube stream key once.
  3. Go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded videos from the cloud.

Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. Each slot streams the upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly service is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for details, or start the free first day.
