If your YouTube broadcast ends when an OBS playlist reaches its last video, first check whether OBS is still sending video. A playlist ending can stop the OBS feed; YouTube may then end the broadcast if auto-stop is enabled. The fix depends on which OBS source or playlist tool is playing your videos: make that source continue or repeat, or adjust YouTube’s broadcast behavior if you want to handle a temporary interruption. YouTube’s auto-stop setting does not loop the playlist.

First identify what is stopping

OBS supplies the video feed, while YouTube manages the broadcast event. A playlist reaching its final item, OBS stopping its output, and YouTube ending the event are related but separate events.

  1. Keep OBS and YouTube’s Live Control Room open while the playlist approaches its last video.
  2. When playback ends, check OBS’s streaming status. Determine whether OBS is still transmitting or its output has gone idle.
  3. Check the Live Control Room preview and status at the same moment. YouTube’s lifecycle guidance treats an active stream status as evidence that its servers are receiving encoder data. If OBS has stopped sending video, focus on the playback source. If OBS is still transmitting but YouTube says the event ended, check the selected broadcast and its settings.

This observation separates a media-playback problem from a broadcast-lifecycle problem; changing YouTube auto-stop alone cannot make OBS produce more video.

Make the OBS feed continue after the last video

If OBS output goes idle when the playlist finishes, the playback source or playlist component needs to keep supplying content. Depending on what you use, that may mean enabling repeat, looping the source, or keeping a live scene active. There is no single dependable OBS menu path for this: the exact repeat control depends on the media source, plugin, or external playlist tool, and the tool is not identified here.

Open the settings for the component that actually plays the playlist and look for its repeat or end-of-playback behavior. Confirm what it does at the end, then test the entire playlist while watching OBS’s output status. If you share which source or plugin supplies the videos, the exact setting can be identified; do not assume a control documented for one playlist tool applies to another.

Check YouTube auto-stop and scheduled-broadcast settings

YouTube’s auto-stop setting controls what happens to the broadcast after the encoder stops sending video. When auto-stop is enabled, YouTube says it ends the broadcast about one minute after transmission stops. It does not restart OBS playback or repeat the last video. See Google’s broadcast lifecycle documentation.

In YouTube Help’s Manage live stream settings, YouTube says that enabling auto-start and auto-stop lets you start or stop streaming from the encoder. Reusing stream settings also copies the auto-start and auto-stop choices, so check the settings on the specific broadcast rather than assuming they match another event.

  • If the event should end when the playlist ends: auto-stop may be the expected behavior. The broadcast ending is not necessarily a fault.
  • If you want to reconnect after a temporary interruption: turning auto-stop off may keep the event from ending immediately, but it does not restore the video feed. You must still get OBS sending again. OBS’s guide cautions that with auto-stop off, a broadcast eventually ends if no stream is sent for multiple hours.
  • If this is a scheduled broadcast: check whether OBS is connected to the intended event and whether auto-start and auto-stop are enabled. When they are not enabled, OBS’s Start Streaming action and YouTube Live Control Room’s Go Live or End Stream actions may be separate steps. The OBS community guide, How to stream to YouTube with OBS Studio, describes that distinction; its interface guidance may change, so verify the current controls.

If OBS keeps transmitting but YouTube ends the event

When OBS reports that it is still sending but YouTube marks the event ended, verify that the selected YouTube broadcast is the one you intend to use and review its settings. Also check whether OBS’s YouTube integration is current. Historical OBS Studio 27 release notes list fixes involving GoLive for existing broadcasts without auto-start and broadcast-button state when auto-stop was enabled. Those are historical fixes, not evidence that either issue explains a current failure.

Copyright and content checks for the playlist

These settings address whether a broadcast stays live, not whether its videos are authorized for streaming. Use content you have rights to broadcast and check YouTube’s applicable copyright and live-stream rules. A source that repeats correctly can still run into content-rights or platform-policy problems; keeping the feed active does not resolve those.

Common symptoms and fixes

What you see Likely area to check What to do
OBS output goes idle as the last item ends The source or playlist has reached its end Check that specific component’s repeat or end-of-playback behavior. YouTube auto-stop cannot loop it.
OBS stops sending and the broadcast ends about a minute later YouTube auto-stop is enabled Decide whether ending is intended. If you need to reconnect, review auto-stop, but restore OBS’s video feed as well.
A scheduled event does not go live or end as expected Auto-start/auto-stop and broadcast selection Verify the intended event and whether the Live Control Room requires a separate Go Live or End Stream action.
OBS appears to send video, but YouTube says the event ended Broadcast selection, event settings, or OBS’s YouTube integration Confirm the selected broadcast and inspect the current settings and integration before attributing the issue to a historical OBS bug.
