Choose IBM when managed video channels and audience capacity matter
IBM may suit an organization that needs hosted live and on-demand video alongside channel management, access controls, embedding, APIs, or planned viewer-hour capacity. What happens to the YouTube replay?
Restream’s YouTube help says YouTube has no stream-duration limit, but archives only streams shorter than 12 hours. That means a 24/7 broadcast should not be treated as one assured, complete replay. Plan separate recordings or shorter broadcasts if you need reliable replay files, and confirm current YouTube guidance for your channel. Can IBM Video Streaming and Restream work together?
Yes. IBM documents adding IBM Video Streaming to Restream as a custom RTMP destination, which makes a combined routing setup possible. IBM says that Restream capability requires a paid Restream subscription. This lets a broadcaster send a feed to IBM as one destination; it does not make the two services interchangeable or establish that a prerecorded playlist loop is handled identically by both. Connecting Restream to YouTube
- Enable YouTube live streaming. Restream’s instructions require live streaming to be enabled on the YouTube channel. For a newly enabled channel, Restream says YouTube requires phone verification and a 24-hour wait before the first stream.
- Authorize the channel in Restream. Follow Restream’s YouTube connection flow and sign in as someone who owns the channel; Restream says a manager or editor alone cannot make the connection.
- Set up the prerecorded stream. Use Restream’s upload-and-stream workflow to upload and schedule videos, make a playlist, and enable looping as needed. Check the schedule and intended destination before it begins.
- Plan for operations and archives. Restream recommends restarting continuous streams every 24 hours because maintenance may interrupt longer runs. Separately, its YouTube help says streams under 12 hours are archived; do not rely on a full-day broadcast as a single complete replay.
Eligibility and interface details can change; check Restream’s current YouTube instructions and the channel’s YouTube live settings before scheduling.
Copyright and channel-policy checks
Before looping music, worship recordings, or other third-party material, make sure you have the rights and permissions needed for both the content and its continuous public broadcast. A live-streaming tool does not grant content rights. YouTube’s handling of a stream, its replay, and channel monetization can also differ; the vendor pages cited here do not establish that a particular playlist complies with YouTube policy.
