What works on a PS5 now?
XPSemu is a PS5 port of xemu, the open-source emulator for the original Microsoft Xbox. VideoCardz reported on October 3, 2026, that its Alpha 1 build was publicly available and could boot games on jailbroken PS5 systems. “Boots” is the important qualification: the report does not establish that the full original Xbox library works, nor does it provide a complete compatibility list.
The port reportedly runs as a PS5 application. VideoCardz says it uses QEMU’s TCG JIT for Xbox CPU emulation and xemu’s Vulkan graphics backend with the open-source RADV driver available for PS5. The reported Alpha 1 interface includes per-game settings, patches, performance monitoring, an Xbox-style menu, and internal-resolution scaling from 1× to 4×. These are descriptions of the PS5 port in VideoCardz’s report, not a guarantee that every feature works equally well in every game.

VideoCardz also relayed the developer’s observation that the emulated Xbox CPU thread used 85%–97% of its assigned PS5 CPU time while the GPU remained mostly idle. The developer reportedly found that increasing internal resolution to 3× or 4× had little effect on performance in many games. Those observations help explain why simply lowering resolution may not solve slowdowns, but they should not be treated as measurements across all games or systems.
Are Xbox 360 games supported?
Not as a publicly available release in the reporting. VideoCardz said developer BrinoBlitz had shown an early Xbox 360 emulator running on PS5 and intended to release it after fixing remaining bugs. At the time of that report, there was no public build and no compatibility list. This is a separate, earlier-stage project—not an Xbox 360 mode in XPSemu, which targets the original Xbox.

Can the PS5 run Windows or PC games?
A separate project called PP, also referred to as PS5 Proton, was demonstrated as an attempt to run Windows games directly on jailbroken PS5 systems rather than first requiring Linux. It was not publicly available in the October 3 report: there was no public build or repository, and no published compatibility or performance results. A demonstration is not evidence that PC games are ready for general use on a PS5.

What does xemu’s feature list tell you?
The xemu project describes its own original Xbox emulator for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Its project site lists controller support, save states, and render-resolution increases from 480p to 1080p. It also explains that compatibility reports are submitted by volunteers based on their experience with a current version on their own computers, and can become outdated as the project changes.

Those are xemu-wide descriptions, not independent confirmation of the PS5 port’s capabilities. They do not establish that XPSemu supports every listed feature in the same way, or that its PS5 game compatibility matches xemu on desktop operating systems.

The October 3 report says recent jailbreak developments followed jailbreaks for PS5 firmware 13.6 and that Sony had released another firmware update the day before publication. It advises people who want to preserve the option of jailbreaking to wait while the newer firmware is examined. That is a time-sensitive caution, not a complete compatibility chart: the report does not establish which console models or firmware versions can use these projects, or whether a particular console currently qualifies.
