OBS can repeat a file, but it cannot fix a jarring seam already in the footage.
1. Start with footage and audio you can use
Record the fireplace yourself or use visuals and sound you have permission to use. Keep the planned frame size, aspect ratio, and frame rate in mind while editing. Check rights for the audio as well as the video: a licensed image does not grant rights to a separate crackling-fire recording or music track.
2. Find and refine a natural loop point
Match the start and end
Look for a section whose opening and closing frames are similar enough that the restart is unobtrusive. Compare flame shape, overall brightness, camera position, and other visible details. Fire is constantly changing, so an identical pair of frames may not exist; the goal is a transition viewers are unlikely to notice, not mathematical identity.
Inspect the audio seam too
Try a cut or a short overlap and crossfade if it makes the transition less noticeable. Listen for a click, silence, a sudden loudness change, or a crackle that repeats conspicuously. There is no single crossfade duration that works for every recording. Replay the actual exported file from its end back to its beginning several times before calling the loop seamless.

Export and test the file
Export at a frame size and frame rate suitable for the planned stream. Preserve the source quality where practical, but use a format and encoding your computer can decode reliably while streaming. The seam must be judged in the exported file: an edit preview alone cannot confirm that the final encode plays cleanly.
3. Choose how OBS will repeat it

These behaviors are documented in the OBS Media Sources guide. Looping restarts playback when it ends; it does not smooth a discontinuity in the media file. An OBS scene transition such as Fade or Cut affects the transition between scenes, not the join inside a single looping clip. See the OBS Studio Overview Guide for scene and source basics.

4. Set up the fireplace loop in OBS
- Create a scene: In OBS, add a scene for the fireplace stream. Add a Media Source for one file, or a VLC Video source if you need a playlist.
- Choose the media: Select the exported local file in the source properties. For a playlist, add the files in the intended order.
- Enable repetition: Turn on Loop in Media Source properties for a single file. For a VLC playlist, enable Loop Playlist.
- Check the composition: Confirm the video fills the intended canvas without unwanted borders or cropping. Check that the source’s audio is audible and that any additional audio sources do not create an unintended mix.
- Preview the restart: Let the file play through its end and restart in OBS. Watch the transition and listen at a normal playback level. If the seam is distracting, return to the edit and adjust it; OBS’s loop switch only repeats the exported file.
5. Connect OBS to YouTube Live
Check channel eligibility early
YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. Its live-streaming information also states a minimum age of 16. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so check eligibility and enable live streaming well before the planned start. Confirm current requirements on YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility page.
Create the encoder stream and protect the key
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule an encoder stream in Live Control Room.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream into OBS’s stream settings. Follow YouTube’s current encoder setup instructions for the Studio workflow.
- Treat the stream key like a password. Do not publish it, show it on screen, or share it with anyone who should not be able to broadcast to your channel.
- Start sending the stream from OBS and check the incoming preview and stream health in Live Control Room before making the broadcast public or starting the scheduled event.
YouTube’s encoder setup guide describes the stream URL and key workflow and recommends checking the preview. It also says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume a longer continuous stream will be archived in the same way.

6. Use stable encoder settings and sufficient upload capacity
YouTube’s current encoder guidance supports RTMP/RTMPS with H.264, H.265/HEVC, or AV1, up to 60 fps; it calls for CBR and recommends a two-second keyframe interval that does not exceed four seconds. It lists AAC or MP3 audio. Select settings supported by your encoder and use the bitrate guidance for the chosen resolution, frame rate, and codec rather than assuming one bitrate fits every stream.
For H.264 at 1080p30, YouTube lists 5 Mbps as the minimum and 10 Mbps as the recommended ingest bitrate. Those are platform recommendations, not a guarantee of stable delivery on a particular connection. YouTube recommends RTMPS and testing before streaming. A fireplace shot has relatively little movement, so you can test a lower frame rate if the flame still looks natural. The cited YouTube guidance does not prescribe a special frame rate for fireplace video. YouTube transcodes live streams into multiple playback formats; choose ingest settings that balance image quality with a reliable, sustained upload.
Leave upload headroom for the total stream bitrate. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend 20% above the total bitrate. Test the actual video motion and audio before the public broadcast, then monitor both stream health and playback after going live. See YouTube’s streaming tips.

7. Troubleshoot common loop and stream problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or change |

| A visible jump when the video restarts | The exported clip’s ending does not match its beginning closely enough. | Compare the actual last and first frames, then adjust the edit or try a short crossfade. Re-export and inspect the end-to-start join again. |

8. Understand copyright and monetization separately
Use footage and audio you created or are licensed to use. Separately, permission to use material does not guarantee that a channel qualifies for monetization. YouTube’s monetization policy applies to live streams; its July 15, 2025 update renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” to clarify that repetitive or mass-produced content can be ineligible. Reviewers assess the channel, and the policy calls for original, authentic content. A channel built from nearly interchangeable long ambient loops may receive monetization scrutiny, but no one can predict a specific review decision from the format alone. Make your authorship and meaningful creative contribution clear. Read YouTube’s channel monetization policies.
