To fade songs automatically in a 24/7 YouTube lofi stream, use a playback or DJ app such as Mixxx to crossfade tracks before your encoder sends the finished audio-video program to YouTube. In Mixxx, add authorized music to Auto DJ, enable it, choose a transition mode, then route the mixed output to your streaming encoder.
Where the crossfade happens
The transition belongs in the playback and mixing chain—not in YouTube’s broadcast settings. Mixxx Auto DJ schedules the next local track and crossfades it with the current one; the encoder captures that composed program and sends it to YouTube. YouTube hosts the broadcast and scans live streams for rights matches, but does not automatically crossfade a playlist. See the Mixxx 2.5 manual and YouTube Live API overview.

Set up automatic crossfading in Mixxx
-
Prepare music you are allowed to stream
Use recordings for which you have the necessary streaming rights. YouTube says live streams are scanned for third-party content, and a match can interrupt or terminate a stream. Even licensed music may require the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Confirm the rights and any allowlisting requirements before going live. Read YouTube’s copyright guidance.

Put tracks in the Auto DJ queue
Mixxx’s Auto DJ playlist starts empty. Add the tracks or playlist you intend to play, then enable Auto DJ. As the current track nears its end, Auto DJ loads the upcoming track and crossfades into it. The detailed controls are in the Mixxx Auto DJ documentation.

Choose a transition mode
For tracks with useful intro and outro markers, choose Full Intro + Outro or Fade At Outro Start. Mixxx compares the outgoing outro and incoming intro and uses the shorter marked section as the crossfade time. Full Intro + Outro retains the sections more fully. Fade At Outro Start can cut off the tail of a longer outgoing outro, and may sound abrupt when the incoming intro is short.
For a set overlap length, choose Full Track or Skip Silence and specify the number of seconds for the crossfade. Skip Silence detects silence when the signal first rises above or falls below -60 dBFS, as defined in Mixxx’s documentation. These fixed-duration modes are easier to make consistent, but still need listening checks for gaps, abrupt cuts, or an overly dense overlap.
-
Review the transitions and adjust cues or timing
There is no single best fade duration for every lofi playlist. Ambient endings, percussion, reverb tails, and silence change what sounds natural. Auto DJ does not analyze track volume, frequency content, or rhythm, so it cannot guarantee a balanced, human-style mix. Listen to representative transitions and adjust cue positions or timing where needed.
-
Send the mixed program to YouTube
Route Mixxx’s composed audio to your streaming encoder, pair it with the visual program, and transmit the result to YouTube. YouTube recommends RTMPS and publishes current audio/video encoding guidance; use its encoder setup guidance and check the Live Dashboard for incoming-stream errors. Confirm that the outgoing program contains the Mixxx mix and that a second music source is not layered on top. YouTube’s live streaming error guidance covers stream problems; settings and recommendations can change.

Choose cue-based or fixed-duration fades
| Approach | Best fit | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Full Intro + Outro | Tracks with marked intros and outros when retaining both sections matters. | Uses the shorter of the marked intro and outro for the overlap, so the transition length varies with the cues. |
| Fade At Outro Start | Tracks with marked sections when the outgoing track can begin fading at its outro. | Can shorten a long outro; a short incoming intro may make the transition abrupt. |
| Full Track or Skip Silence | A chosen, repeatable overlap length rather than cue-dependent timing. | Listen for gaps, cuts, or muddy overlap and tune the chosen duration to the music. |
Common problems and fixes
- No transition occurs: Check that tracks have been added to Auto DJ and Auto DJ is enabled. Its queue begins empty.
- The outgoing song ends too soon: If using Fade At Outro Start, inspect its outro cue and consider Full Intro + Outro or a fixed-duration mode when retaining more of the outro is important.
- The next track enters abruptly: Check its intro cue and listen to the overlap. A very short marked intro can limit cue-based crossfade timing; reposition usable cues or try a fixed duration.
- The overlap sounds muddy or uneven: Mixxx Auto DJ does not account for volume, frequency balance, or rhythm. Review the specific pair of tracks and change cues or timing; do not assume one setting suits the whole playlist.
- YouTube interrupts the broadcast: A technically smooth mix does not grant music rights. Check YouTube’s match notice, verify permissions, and confirm whether the rights owner must allowlist your channel.
- YouTube receives the wrong or doubled audio: Check the encoder’s audio input and Mixxx routing, then make sure another playback source is not being captured at the same time.
Optional monitoring for cueing
DJ headphones can help you preview the next track through Mixxx’s headphone output, but they are not required for Auto DJ to crossfade automatically.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded lofi videos playing on YouTube without leaving a home computer on, StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; each slot streams uploads as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos rather than going live from a camera, and your music still needs the rights required for YouTube.
