To run a continuous lofi livestream, create a YouTube Live stream and send YouTube a live audio-and-video feed from an encoder. You can prepare the channel and stream in YouTube Studio, connect a software or hardware encoder, test the broadcast, and monitor it while it runs.
What looping a playlist does—and what it doesn’t
On a computer, YouTube’s playlist instructions say to open a video in the playlist, expand the playlist, and select Loop. That repeats playback for someone watching the playlist. It does not turn the playlist into a livestream or send it to a YouTube Live watch page. YouTube’s playlist instructions and its encoder guidance describe separate functions.
A livestream requires an encoder to send a live audiovisual feed to YouTube. YouTube describes an encoder as software or standalone hardware that converts and sends the feed; its help page says, “An encoder converts your video into a digital format to stream on YouTube.” The official guidance does not specify a built-in way to feed a YouTube playlist directly into an encoder, so do not assume the viewer-side Loop control will automate the broadcast.
Check channel eligibility before preparing the stream
YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-stream restriction in the past 90 days. Its live-streaming tips note that first-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable livestreaming well before the time you plan to go live.

- Confirm the channel is verified.
- Check that it has no live-stream restriction within YouTube’s stated 90-day lookback period.
- If livestreaming has not been enabled before, allow up to 24 hours for activation.

Prepare your lofi audio and visuals
Choose the audio and visuals you intend to broadcast, then confirm that you have permission to use each of them in a livestream. A track being available in a playlist—or being described as lofi, royalty-free, or background music—does not by itself establish that you have the necessary broadcast rights. The technical setup instructions do not determine whether any particular track or visual is licensed for your use.

Decide what the encoder will send as its live feed. You may prepare a continuous audiovisual source for the encoder, but YouTube’s official pages reviewed here do not identify a particular playlist-to-encoder automation feature. Use documentation for your chosen encoder to determine how it accepts and repeats media; do not confuse that function with YouTube’s playlist Loop control.
Create a YouTube Live stream and connect an encoder
- Open YouTube Studio and create or schedule a livestream. Use YouTube Studio’s live-stream creation flow to set up the broadcast. You can schedule it in advance or prepare it to go live when your encoder is ready.
- Copy the server URL and stream key from the stream settings. YouTube calls the stream key the password and address an encoder uses to send a feed. Treat it as a credential: do not publish it, share it with viewers, or expose it in a screenshot. If someone else obtains it, they may be able to send a feed to your stream.
- Enter the connection details in your encoder. Use the encoder’s YouTube or custom streaming destination settings to enter the server URL and stream key. Configure the audio and video source according to the encoder’s instructions; YouTube supports encoder software as well as standalone hardware.
- Start sending the feed, then check YouTube’s Live Control Room. Confirm that YouTube receives the signal and displays a preview before you make the event public or announce it as live.

Test the feed and network before going live
Test the broadcast before relying on it. Check that the preview appears in Live Control Room, that the watch page is accessible to the intended audience, and that both audio and video behave as expected. Watch for audio that is missing, too quiet, distorted, or out of sync, and verify that the visuals move or change as intended.
- Check stream health: monitor YouTube’s status indicators while the encoder sends its feed.
- Leave upload headroom: YouTube’s streaming tips say total streaming bitrate cannot exceed available upload bandwidth and recommend leaving 20% room. That headroom helps avoid using the full connection capacity for the stream.
- Test the actual network: use the connection and location that will carry the broadcast, not just a different connection used during setup.
- Keep the stream key private: if you suspect it has been exposed, use YouTube Studio’s stream settings to replace or reset it and update the encoder with the new key.

Plan for long broadcasts and replays
YouTube’s encoder help page says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. For streams longer than 12 hours, YouTube warns that DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable. If having a reliable replay or rewind matters, plan around that boundary rather than assuming an indefinitely running stream will produce a complete archive with full DVR functionality.
Decide whether the broadcast should end and restart before it exceeds 12 hours, taking into account your desired replay and rewind behavior. Playlist repetition alone does not guarantee uninterrupted livestream operation or a complete replay. See YouTube’s livestream DVR guidance for its stated caveats.

Troubleshoot common continuous-stream problems
- The playlist repeats, but there is no livestream. The Loop button only repeats playlist playback for a viewer. Create a YouTube Live stream and connect an encoder that sends a live feed.
- YouTube does not receive the encoder feed. Check that the encoder has the correct server URL and current stream key, and confirm the encoder is sending rather than merely configured. Replace a stream key that may have been exposed.
- The stream appears unstable or loses health. Check the upload connection and reduce the load on it if necessary. Make sure the total bitrate fits within available upload bandwidth and retain YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom.
- There is a picture but no usable audio, or the reverse. Inspect the selected audio and video sources in the encoder, then verify both in the Live Control Room preview before starting the public broadcast.
- You cannot start a livestream. Confirm channel verification and check for a live-stream restriction within the previous 90 days. If livestreaming is newly enabled, allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
- A long stream lacks expected rewind or a complete replay. Check whether it ran beyond 12 hours. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived and DVR rewind beyond that point may be limited or unavailable.
- A track or visual triggers a rights concern. Confirm that you hold permission to broadcast the material. A playlist’s availability on YouTube does not establish your rights to rebroadcast it.
