For prerecorded video that should loop, use a cloud service that runs the stream for you; for a live camera or custom production, use a managed cloud encoder such as AWS Elemental MediaLive. YouTube still needs an encoder feed, configured with your YouTube Live server URL and stream key. The right choice depends on whether your source is prerecorded or live, and how much control you need over the production.
Choose a method based on what you are streaming

YouTube’s verified encoder directory includes Gyre for cloud-based 24/7 streaming of prerecorded videos and Upstream as a browser-based cloud studio for 24/7 live video streaming. These are alternatives to operating a dedicated local PC, but their current pricing, account limits, and regional availability are not established here. YouTube’s encoder directory
For a camera or another live source, AWS describes MediaLive as a channel that ingests and transcodes content supplied by upstream systems, then sends outputs to configured downstream systems. A typical workflow may also need an origin or packager and a CDN. This is cloud infrastructure—not a turnkey creator tool—and it does not remove the need to configure the source and output path. Set up YouTube’s encoder connection
- Enable live streaming on your channel. YouTube says first-time enablement may take up to 24 hours, so do not leave activation until the planned start time.
- Create or select a stream in YouTube Studio. Use the event or stream configuration appropriate to your planned broadcast.
- Copy the YouTube Live server URL and stream key into your encoder. YouTube’s instruction is: “To start streaming, enter your YouTube Live server URL and stream key into your encoder.” YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder
- Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password: do not publish it, put it in screenshots, or expose it in public configuration examples. Anyone with the key may be able to send a feed to your stream.
- Start the encoder or cloud service and check YouTube Studio. Confirm YouTube is receiving the intended feed before relying on the stream as continuous.
Run prerecorded video continuously in the cloud
If the goal is to loop recordings or a playlist, a managed cloud service is usually the most direct fit: it avoids leaving a dedicated computer running and avoids administering a streaming server. YouTube lists Gyre and Upstream in its encoder directory for related cloud workflows. Use cloud infrastructure for a live source or custom workflow
When the content is a live camera, studio feed, or another real-time source, a cloud encoder can replace a server you administer, but the production still needs an upstream source and a correctly configured destination. AWS describes MediaLive as handling encoding and output; a 24/7 AWS workflow may pair it with MediaStore or MediaPackage for origin or packaging and CloudFront for delivery. AWS notes that video must be packaged before CloudFront can distribute it. Check the AWS architecture and service configuration for the workflow you intend to operate rather than assuming MediaLive alone supplies every component.

This route is appropriate when you need control over encoding and output, have the technical resources to configure the cloud components, and are prepared to maintain that configuration. It is not the simplest solution for merely repeating an uploaded recording.
Handle separate events and long-running archives deliberately
YouTube’s Live Streaming API treats a broadcast (the event or video resource) and a stream (the incoming audio-video transmission and its settings) as separate resources. Its documented example keeps a continuous broadcast live, starts a separate interview broadcast bound to the same stream, then completes the interview broadcast without stopping the continuous feed. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That guidance does not promise one complete archive for a 24/7 stream. - Test the actual playlist and stream setup before making it continuous. Confirm that the content is appropriate to repeat and that you have planned how to stop or change it if needed.
