Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →To switch between prerecorded videos without ending a YouTube live stream, use the playlist or source controls in the cloud playout service sending the stream. YouTube receives the service’s outgoing program; it is not where you select the next prerecorded file. The exact controls and whether a change is seamless vary by provider.
How the cloud switching workflow works
A cloud playout service hosts or accesses your prerecorded videos, arranges them in a playlist or other source order, and sends the resulting stream to YouTube. You make the video change in that service’s interface while the broadcast is running. YouTube’s encoder guide lists Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 prerecorded-video streams, but its listing does not document Gyre’s current playlist controls or switching behavior.
YouTube Studio handles the broadcast and connection details: you create or schedule the live stream, then give the cloud service the matching stream URL and stream key. The service supplies the encoded video; YouTube’s preview lets you check what it is receiving before you make the broadcast public.
Set up the stream and switch videos
- Choose a cloud playout service. YouTube’s encoder guide lists Gyre for 24/7 streaming of prerecorded video. Treat that as an example of the category, not proof of a particular playlist feature, transition, file limit, price, or service availability. Check the provider’s current documentation for those details.
- Prepare your media and playlist in the provider’s interface. Upload or otherwise make the videos available, then arrange the desired order. Find out how the service edits a playlist that is already on air, whether it supports immediate source changes or only queued changes, and what happens to picture and audio during a transition. These controls differ by provider; there is no universal button or guaranteed seamless switch.
- Create or schedule the broadcast in YouTube Studio. Open Live Control Room and create a stream or schedule one. Copy the stream URL and stream key for that broadcast. Keep the key private: it enables an encoder to stream to your channel. YouTube’s guide says the encoder must use the matching key.
- Connect the cloud service to YouTube. Enter the copied stream URL and key in the provider’s YouTube or RTMP connection settings, following that provider’s current instructions. Confirm that the selected YouTube broadcast and key correspond to each other.
- Start output and inspect the preview. Start the cloud service’s output, then wait for YouTube to receive the stream and show a preview. YouTube’s production guide notes that seeing a preview does not mean the broadcast is live. If the broadcast is not configured to auto-start, use Live Control Room to start it after checking the preview.
- Change the video in the cloud service. While the broadcast remains active, use the provider’s playlist or source controls to choose what plays next or what is on air. Rehearse the change with a private or unlisted broadcast first so you can check transitions, picture, and audio continuity.
- End the broadcast deliberately. Follow the provider’s instructions for stopping its output and end the broadcast in YouTube as appropriate. YouTube’s production guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume the same archive behavior for longer streams.
Check these details before going live
- First-time access: YouTube says enabling live streaming for the first time may take up to 24 hours. Complete that step ahead of a scheduled broadcast.
- Broadcast settings: Confirm the correct stream, privacy setting, scheduled start, and whether the broadcast is set to auto-start or requires a manual Go Live action.
- Connection: Verify the stream URL and key belong to the intended broadcast. If the key is changed or mismatched, the cloud output may not connect to that stream.
- Media handling: Confirm supported file formats, upload limits, playlist editing, transitions, and whether changes apply immediately or after the current video. YouTube’s encoder documentation does not establish these provider-specific details.
- Rights: Secure the necessary rights for the live transmission, any rebroadcast, and the on-demand audio and video. YouTube’s production guide specifically calls out clearances for all three.
Which kind of setup fits?
| Option | What it is suited to | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo | A YouTube stream that loops uploaded videos from the cloud, with no computer at home kept running. Any quality up to 4K 60fps streams as uploaded at one flat price per slot; the first day is free. | StreamNeo is for uploaded-video playout to YouTube, not camera-based live production. See StreamNeo for the service details. |
| Gyre cloud playout | YouTube lists Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming, including Full HD/4K claims in its listing. | The listing does not explain current playlist editing, transitions, pricing, or service availability. |
| Grabyo Producer | YouTube describes Grabyo as a cloud-native live production platform with camera switching, graphics, and RTMP delivery, including YouTube. | The cited YouTube listing does not explicitly document prerecorded playlist switching. |
| OBS Studio | A desktop encoder workflow for operators willing to run playback locally. | It is not cloud-hosted playout. The cited OBS community guide was last updated in 2021. |
| Hardware encoder or switcher | A physical production setup or a separate hardware-based workflow. | Hardware is not required for the cloud-hosted method. |
For any service, compare whether playback is cloud-hosted or local, whether switching is manual or playlist-driven, whether you need cameras, remote guests, or graphics, and what monitoring and recovery controls are available. Confirm capabilities and prices with the provider; the YouTube listings alone do not establish a full feature or price comparison.

Common problems and what to check
- YouTube receives no signal: Check that the provider is outputting, and re-check the stream URL and key against the intended YouTube broadcast.
- The preview appears, but viewers cannot watch: A preview is not the same as going live. Check the broadcast’s start behavior and select Go Live in Live Control Room if a manual start is required.
- A video does not change as expected: Check the provider’s playlist rules. A change may affect only the next item, require a separate on-air source selection, or behave differently while a video is playing. The precise behavior is provider-specific.
- There is a picture or audio interruption: Rehearse the transition and check the provider’s documented switching behavior and media requirements before relying on it during a public stream.
- The stream is not enabled in time: If this is the channel’s first live stream, allow up to 24 hours for YouTube’s enablement process.
