Neither documented workflow asks you to create a new YouTube channel, but confirm you are signed into the intended Google account and have selected the right channel before changing account or billing settings. The steps below cover both meanings of “switch services.”
Change a YouTube Premium or Music Premium membership
Use the paid-membership controls for the service you already have. YouTube’s documented membership-change process does not direct you to make a new channel to change plans; however, it does not guarantee that every channel-specific setting or account configuration is unaffected.

- Confirm the account and channel. In YouTube, check the profile picture and selected channel, and verify that the Google account is the one associated with the subscription.
- Open the relevant membership page. For YouTube Premium, go to YouTube’s paid-memberships page. For YouTube Music Premium, use the YouTube Music paid-memberships page.
- Select Manage membership. Review the available membership or payment preferences and follow the prompts to make the change.
- Check the resulting membership and billing details. Confirm the plan, renewal or end date, and payment provider shown for your account. Prices and available options can vary; use the amount displayed on your own membership screen rather than relying on a price quoted elsewhere.
India billing and recurring-payment checks
In India, a recurring membership may prompt you to verify or re-enter payment details under RBI eMandate requirements. Whether recurring payments work can depend on your bank. Follow the prompt shown by YouTube and check which account and provider—such as Google Play or another billing partner—is charging you. If a payment mandate is not supported or needs attention, resolve that with the indicated provider before assuming the membership will renew normally.
Check for overlapping subscriptions before switching
YouTube Premium includes YouTube Music Premium benefits. If you already pay for Premium, a separate Music Premium membership may be redundant; review YouTube’s duplicate-subscription guidance before starting another plan.

- Cancel a membership through the provider that bills it. A subscription purchased through Apple, Google Play, or another partner may need to be canceled there rather than on YouTube.
- A recently canceled membership can remain active until the current billing period ends. You may need to wait until then before purchasing another plan.
- Compare the benefits you need, not just the plan name. Premium and Music Premium are not interchangeable in every situation, and the membership screen is the place to verify what is offered to your account.
Choose between Premium Lite and YouTube Premium in India
Google announced on 12 March 2026 that Premium Lite background play and downloads were rolling out in India for most videos. That is not the same as coverage for all videos or the full music benefits of YouTube Premium. Google says Premium covers all videos ad-free, offline, and in the background, including music content and YouTube Music Premium. Move playlists to YouTube Music while keeping your channel
If by “switch services” you mean moving a music library, YouTube Music provides a direct playlist-transfer workflow for Apple Music. For services without a direct transfer—YouTube gives Spotify and Amazon Music as examples—you may need a third-party transfer tool. YouTube names Soundiiz and Tune My Music as examples, but says it does not have a formal relationship with them or guarantee their service quality. - Open YouTube Music’s transfer instructions and choose the workflow for your source service. Follow the on-screen sign-in and authorization steps; for a third-party tool, review its access and privacy terms before granting permission.
- Select the playlists to transfer and start the transfer. A large transfer may take several hours.
- Review the destination playlists when it finishes. Some tracks may not match, so compare the results with the originals and add missing songs manually where possible.
- Keep the source library until you have checked the results. Transferring playlists does not remove the music from the old service.
What playlist transfer does not do
- It is not a full account migration, and YouTube’s transfer guidance does not promise that channel settings, subscriptions, or other account data move with a playlist.
- Changes made in YouTube Music do not automatically sync back to the old service.
- Podcasts cannot be imported or exported through the documented transfer process.
- Track matching can fail. Treat the transfer as a starting copy, not a guaranteed one-to-one catalog match.
Keep the subscription tied to the right country
YouTube’s paid-service terms say Premium features can vary by geography, device, and operating system. They also say a Premium service should be used from the country where the subscription was signed up; predominant use outside that country or misrepresenting the sign-up country may violate the terms and can result in termination of access. Check the YouTube Paid Service Terms rather than relying on a location workaround.
