Not necessarily. YouTube lets you schedule an upcoming live event so viewers can find it and set reminders, but its documented encoder workflow does not establish that YouTube will start and stop a continuous feed automatically at clock times. Auto-start and auto-stop are controls for starting or stopping from the encoder—not a documented timetable.
What “schedule” means on YouTube
There are two separate actions that are easy to confuse: scheduling the live event and starting the live feed. YouTube Studio can list an upcoming stream for promotion and viewer reminders. That does not, in YouTube’s documented encoder instructions, mean the encoder feed begins at the event’s scheduled time.
For an encoder stream, YouTube’s instructions have the creator connect the encoder with the stream URL and key, start the encoder, wait for a preview, and select Go live in Live Control Room. To finish, stop sending content and select End Stream. The documented steps therefore include actions to begin and end the broadcast; they do not describe a clock-based start-and-stop timetable.
What auto-start and auto-stop do—and do not establish
YouTube describes auto-start and auto-stop settings as allowing a creator to start or stop streaming from the encoder. The help page does not say those settings launch or stop the encoder at a chosen time of day. They should not be treated as a scheduled timer for an unattended 24/7 feed.

How to schedule an event and start an encoder stream
Schedule the event for promotion

In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and use Manage to schedule the stream.

Share the upcoming event if you want viewers to find it and opt into notifications. Scheduling makes the event upcoming; it does not, by itself, establish that a continuous encoder feed will start at that time.
Connect and start the encoder feed

Use the stream URL and stream key from YouTube in your encoder.

Start sending the encoder feed and wait for YouTube to show a preview in Live Control Room.

Select Go live in Live Control Room to begin the broadcast.

When finished, stop sending content from the encoder and select End Stream.
For a 24/7 channel, this documented workflow requires the feed to be started and ended; it is not a clock-time automation plan. A scheduled event is useful for notifying viewers, while feed control is a separate operational task.

Long streams: archiving and DVR are different issues
YouTube Help says that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That is an archiving condition, not a statement that streams longer than 12 hours are prohibited. Separately, YouTube warns that DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. DVR affects viewers’ ability to rewind during playback; it is not evidence about whether an incoming continuous feed can run.

An upcoming event is not an automatic feed start. Scheduling promotes the event and can enable reminders; the encoder workflow still calls for starting the feed and selecting Go live.

Auto-start is not documented as a clock timer. YouTube describes starting or stopping from the encoder, not executing a selected start or stop time.

The 12-hour notes concern archive and DVR behavior. Automatic archiving under 12 hours and possible DVR limits beyond 12 hours should not be recast as a ban on longer feeds.
