Restream can be worth it if you need to send a production to multiple platforms or use its production tools. For a channel that only needs a continuous YouTube feed, its main advantage—multistreaming—may not justify adding another service, and you still need to plan for daily restarts. Restream says it does not impose a stream-duration limit, but warns that maintenance may restart sessions running longer than 24 hours. YouTube archives streams under 12 hours, according to Restream’s YouTube guide, so a long-running feed is not a single complete YouTube archive.
When Restream makes sense for a YouTube channel
Restream connects to YouTube for browser-based streaming or streaming software such as OBS. It also supports workflows such as scheduling and streaming prerecorded video, and can relay one production to multiple destinations. Those capabilities can be useful if you actively need multiple platforms or Restream’s production tools. See Restream’s YouTube integration.
- Good fit: You want one production sent to YouTube and other destinations, or you will use Restream’s production workflow.
- Less compelling: You only need a YouTube destination and already have a workable way to keep the feed running. In that case, multistreaming does not add much.
Restream plans and the free-tier trade-off
Restream’s published help pages list the following active-channel allowances. They are Restream plan descriptions and may change, so confirm the current terms on its pricing page before buying.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute| Plan | Active channels | What to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Free | 2 | Includes Restream branding, such as a watermark or link in the description, according to Restream’s free-plan guidance. |
| Standard | 3 | Paid-plan allowance listed by Restream. |
| Professional | 5 | Paid-plan allowance listed by Restream. |
| Business | 8 | Paid-plan allowance listed by Restream. |
| Enterprise | 25+ | Published allowance; confirm current plan details with Restream. |
Restream says Facebook Pages and Custom RTMP channels require a paid plan. Its free-plan guidance also says paid plans can remove branding and unlock other features, including Studio Full HD. For a YouTube-only 24/7 channel, decide whether those features solve a real need before paying; the number of destinations alone does not make a single-destination feed more reliable.

What a 24/7 schedule means in practice
Allow for a daily restart
Restream says it has no stream-duration limit, but warns that server maintenance can restart a stream running continuously for more than 24 hours. Its recommendation is to restart every 24 hours. That is a continuity caveat, not a guarantee that every session will end at precisely 24 hours. Plan a restart, then check that the new session is live and playing correctly. Read Restream’s stream-duration guidance.
Do not treat YouTube’s archive as a full-length recording
Restream’s YouTube guide says YouTube archives streams shorter than 12 hours. A feed that runs all day therefore should not be treated as one complete archived video. If retaining the entire program matters, plan a separate recording workflow and verify it independently; the cited guidance does not specify a particular recording product. See Restream’s YouTube guide.
Check YouTube eligibility before configuring Restream
- Make sure live streaming is enabled on the YouTube channel and that the connected account owns that channel, as Restream’s YouTube setup guide requires.
- If this is the channel’s first live stream, complete YouTube phone verification and allow 24 hours for live streaming to become enabled, according to Restream’s activation guide.
- Connect the eligible YouTube channel in Restream, then choose either its browser workflow or compatible streaming software such as OBS. Restream documents both routes; use its current setup prompts for the exact connection steps.
These are prerequisites, not a promise that a particular channel, region, account status, or stream will be approved. Check YouTube’s live-streaming status if the service will not start.

Choose bitrate around the actual upload connection
Restream’s YouTube bitrate guide gives these recommendations:
| Output | Restream-recommended bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p30 | 4 Mbps |
| 720p60 | 6 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p60 | 12 Mbps |
These are guide values, not measurements of any Indian ISP or location. Restream’s rule of thumb is to keep stream bitrate at or below half the available upload speed; its example is a 10 Mbps upload connection supporting a maximum stream bitrate of 5 Mbps. That example falls below its 720p60 and 1080p30 recommendations, illustrating why the bitrate must fit the connection rather than the desired resolution alone. Use a stable connection at the streaming location and leave capacity for normal network variation. Details are in Restream’s YouTube bitrate settings.
