You can turn podcast MP3s into a continuous YouTube live stream by pairing the audio with a visual, sending the combined audio-video feed to YouTube through an encoder, and keeping that playback running. A local encoder needs a computer and internet connection that stay available; a cloud service can handle the continuous playback instead. Before starting, confirm you have the rights to broadcast every episode and any music, clips, and guest contributions it contains.
What you need to stream podcast MP3s live
- Podcast audio: MP3 episode files you are allowed to broadcast and archive.
- A visual track: show artwork, a branded animation, or other video you have permission to use. A live YouTube feed needs video as well as audio, even if the podcast itself is audio-only.
- An encoder: software or hardware on a local device, or a cloud service configured to play prerecorded material continuously.
- YouTube Live access: a channel with live streaming enabled, plus the stream URL and stream key from YouTube Live Control Room.
A public podcast feed or an episode already published elsewhere does not prove you have permission to rebroadcast it. Check rights for the sound recording, composition, embedded clips, and guest contributions.
Choose where the stream will run
Run a local encoder
YouTube supports software encoders running on a computer and standalone hardware encoders. With this approach, the device, power, internet connection, and encoder process must remain available for the stream to continue. You control the local files and encoder settings, but a shutdown, network loss, or stopped process can interrupt playback.
Use a cloud-hosted prerecorded stream
A cloud service can play prerecorded content without relying on a computer in your home to stay on. YouTube’s encoder help identifies cloud-based services as an option for 24/7 prerecorded streams and names Gyre as an example; that reference does not establish any provider’s current price, uptime, or specific features. When evaluating a service, check supported media formats and playlists, recovery behavior, monitoring, and whether it lets you use the YouTube ingest settings you need.

For a local setup, a computer can be useful, but the source guidance does not establish a minimum hardware specification. The two approaches differ in where playback runs and what must stay available:
| Consideration | Local encoder | Cloud-hosted prerecorded stream |
|---|---|---|
| Playback and encoding | Your computer or encoder device | The provider’s cloud service |
| Must stay available | Local device, power, network, and encoder process | Provider service and its configured source or playlist |
| Setup control | Direct control over encoder and local assets | Provider-specific controls and supported inputs |
| Dedicated local computer | May be useful for a software encoder; no minimum specification is established here | May avoid buying a dedicated streaming computer |
Prepare the episodes and visual
- Gather the MP3s. Decide which episodes to include and the order in which they should play. Use files you have the right to broadcast.
- Choose a visual. Pair the audio with a still show card, branded animation, or permitted video. Make sure the visual is suitable to run continuously and that you have permission to use it.
- Check all embedded material. Confirm rights for music recordings and compositions, clips, and guest contributions—not just the podcast file itself. YouTube’s live-stream terms require the necessary worldwide rights for live content on Google services, including applicable music licensing rights.
If uninterrupted archives matter, keep a local recording as well as the YouTube broadcast. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, while a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Its guidance recommends a local archive backup: YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.

Enable YouTube Live and create the stream
- Activate live streaming if needed. If this is the channel’s first live stream, complete YouTube’s activation process in advance. YouTube says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours.
- Open Live Control Room. Create or schedule a stream and locate its stream URL and stream key. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains how to connect an encoder.
- Keep the key private. Enter the stream URL and key in the encoder, but do not share the key publicly; it lets an encoder send a feed to your channel. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube’s stream settings and update your encoder.
- Check the incoming preview. Confirm YouTube receives both the audio and the visual, and review stream health before starting the broadcast.
- Start the encoder and monitor Live Control Room. The encoder sends the feed; Live Control Room provides stream settings and controls. Check that playback is continuing and the feed remains healthy.
For current stream-setting controls, see YouTube’s live stream settings guide.
Set encoder quality and audio
YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension of RTMP. Its current encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 video codecs, and AAC or MP3 audio codecs for RTMP/RTMPS. Follow the encoder’s available options and YouTube’s current guidance: encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

- Positionable design: Pivot the mic in relation to the sound source to optimize your sound quality thanks to the adjustable desktop stand and track your voice in real time with no-latency monitoring
- Rate control: use constant bitrate encoding.
- Keyframes: set a two-second interval; do not exceed four seconds.
- Stereo audio: YouTube recommends a 44.1 kHz sample rate and 128 Kbps audio bitrate.
- Video bitrate and resolution: choose settings the available upload connection can sustain reliably. YouTube’s guidance varies video bitrate by output resolution; test your chosen combination rather than assuming a connection can carry it.
Run a representative test with both speech and any music, plus the visual motion you expect to use. Monitor stream health in Live Control Room. A setting that works for one connection or encoder is not a guarantee for another.
Keep playback running and protect the archive
A 24/7 broadcast requires continuous playback and a plan for interruptions. With local encoding, the computer, network, and encoder process must keep running. For either approach, plan how you will detect a stopped feed and restore playback after a device, connection, encoder, or service interruption; these are operational needs, not a YouTube guarantee.

Do not rely on one continuous stream to create a complete YouTube archive. YouTube states: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” If you need YouTube archives, schedule sessions under 12 hours and keep your own local recording as backup. See YouTube’s archive guidance.

Live copyright scans can interrupt a broadcast
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it identifies protected material, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn you; unresolved issues can lead to interruption or termination. If you are licensed to use third-party material, the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

Permission does not guarantee monetization eligibility
YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams. Monetized content should be original and authentic; repetitive or mass-produced material can be ineligible under the policy’s “inauthentic content” rules. Reused-content review is separate from copyright, so permission to broadcast a podcast catalog alone does not establish that a channel qualifies for the YouTube Partner Program. Check YouTube’s channel monetization policies.
Troubleshoot common stream problems
| Symptom | Possible cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not receive a feed | Live streaming is not activated, or the encoder has an incorrect stream URL or key | Confirm activation is complete, then copy the current URL and key from Live Control Room into the encoder. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours. |
| The preview has no audio | The encoder is not sending the MP3 audio track, or its audio output is not configured | Check that the output includes an audio track and uses an audio codec supported for RTMP/RTMPS, such as AAC or MP3; confirm audio is audible in the encoder preview. |
| The preview has no picture | The MP3 is being sent without a visual track | Add show artwork, animation, or permitted video so the output includes video as well as audio. |
| Stream health is unstable | The chosen output bitrate may exceed what the upload connection can sustain | Test a lower resolution or bitrate, use constant bitrate encoding, and monitor stream health during a representative test. |
| The stream is interrupted after a copyright notice | YouTube has identified third-party material | Review the affected content and rights. If licensed, ask the rights holder about adding your channel to its Content ID allowlist. |
| A long stream is missing from archives | It exceeded YouTube’s 12-hour archive guidance | Use sessions under 12 hours when YouTube archives matter, and retain a local recording. |
