To stream prerecorded videos as a 24/7 YouTube live broadcast, send them through a cloud streaming service or an encoder that stays running. A regular YouTube playlist only plays videos for viewers; it does not create a live broadcast. You’ll need an eligible YouTube channel, videos you have the rights to rebroadcast, and a service or encoder that sends the continuous feed to YouTube.

Before you start: check channel eligibility and content rights

  • Your YouTube channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restriction in the prior 90 days. If this is your first live stream, enable the feature in advance; YouTube says activation may take up to 24 hours. Check YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance for current requirements.
  • Use only videos, music, images, and other material you are entitled to stream and rebroadcast. Being able to upload a file does not mean you have permission to broadcast it. Live content must follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service; YouTube may age-restrict or remove violating streams.
  • Decide whether you want a cloud service to run the playlist or prefer to operate your own encoder. In either case, plan to check the preview and monitor stream health rather than assume a live broadcast cannot be interrupted.

Choose how the playlist will reach YouTube

Option Where playback runs What you manage Evidence-based limits
StreamNeo In the cloud Upload videos, add your YouTube stream key once, and start the stream. You can use a video or playlist for looping. Each slot includes 10 GB of pooled storage across active slots; the same features are included regardless of billing length. See StreamNeo for current details.
Another cloud service, such as OneStream Live On the provider’s infrastructure Choose supported video sources, connect the YouTube channel, set stream details, and schedule playback. OneStream Live documents uploads from a device, its own storage, Google Drive, or Dropbox. OneStream Live’s help article, last updated September 3, 2026, says its 24/7 feature requires an Enterprise plan and allows a maximum duration of 30 days. This is a vendor-specific limit, not a universal YouTube limit. See OneStream Live’s 24/7 streaming instructions.
Self-hosted software or hardware encoder On your computer or encoder hardware Configure the encoder, provide the YouTube server URL and stream key, keep the setup and internet connection running, and monitor the feed. The reviewed sources do not establish a specific equipment budget or full operating cost. Playlist controls depend on the encoder.

YouTube’s encoder documentation also lists Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 streams of prerecorded videos. Check the provider’s current features, terms, and pricing before choosing a service.

Set up a cloud playlist stream

1. Prepare the videos

Choose the files you want to play and confirm you have the necessary rebroadcast rights. For StreamNeo, upload your recording or build a playlist, then add the YouTube stream key once. Its supported workflow plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting a camera feed.

2. Create or connect the YouTube live stream

In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. Set its title, description, visibility, and other details. Connect the service to your YouTube channel as directed by its setup flow, using the stream key for the live event.

  • NDI|HX3 Converter Technology: ZowieBox converts HDMI signals to NDI|HX3/HX2/HX, functioning as an NDI video encoder, or NDI Video Decoder for flexible IP workflows. Certified NDI technology enables low-latency gameplay streaming through OBS/vMix. Note: Encoder and decoder modes cannot run simultaneously; full NDI signals are not supported.
  • UVC to HDMI Conversion: Supporting up to 4K@30fps and 1080p@60fps decoding, ZowieBox enables flexible conversion for webcam and video workflows. As a video decoder and HDMI to IP converter, it expands connectivity options for professional video devices. Note: USB capture card functionality is not currently supported.
  • All-around Configuration Options: Control ZowieBox through its web UI on a PC, phone, or tablet. Manage connected PTZ cameras, tally light, video/audio, OSD, work mode, streams, network, and system settings. Support for VISCA over IP encoder workflows enables flexible PTZ control, while the dashboard provides video preview and system status.

3. Arrange playback and schedule

Add the videos in the order you want, choose the connected YouTube channel, enter stream details, and set the start time and duration available in the service. OneStream Live’s documented workflow uses a 24-hour stream setup, a video list, channel selection, stream details, and immediate or scheduled start; its stated 30-day maximum applies to that service workflow only.

4. Preview, start, and monitor

Check the YouTube Live Control Room preview with representative motion and audio before starting. Confirm stream health and monitor the broadcast while it runs. A cloud service can handle playback and transmission remotely, but no service should be treated as a promise that YouTube or the stream will never be interrupted.

Run the playlist from your own encoder

1. Create the live event and protect its key

In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, create or schedule the stream and copy the server URL and stream key into your encoder. The URL and key tell the encoder where to send the feed. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send video to your channel. YouTube recommends RTMPS for its standard encoder workflow. See Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

2. Configure the encoder and video sequence

Arrange prerecorded sources using the playlist or looping controls supported by your chosen encoder, then configure it to send the feed to YouTube. YouTube’s current guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS, up to 60 fps, constant bitrate encoding, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval that should not exceed four seconds. The appropriate bitrate depends on resolution, frame rate, and codec; use YouTube’s current encoder settings, bitrate, and resolution table rather than applying one bitrate to every setup.

Backed by a 1-year warranty and 24/7 online technical support.

3. Keep the setup available

Start the encoder and keep the computer or hardware encoder, power, and internet connection available for the duration of the broadcast. Check the YouTube preview and stream-health indicators at startup and periodically while live. YouTube transcodes a live feed into multiple playback formats, so test the intended picture and audio before relying on the stream.

When HLS is relevant

HLS is a separate ingestion method for compatible encoders and use cases, not a playlist feature for sequencing your prerecorded videos. YouTube says HLS has higher latency than a continuous RTMP feed because it sends video segments. Its HLS setup requires an HLS stream key and a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments; see YouTube’s HLS setup guide and HLS ingestion requirements.

What to check if the stream does not work as expected

  • You cannot start a live stream: Verify the channel, check for a live-streaming restriction, and allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation.
  • The encoder is not reaching the event: Confirm that you copied the server URL and stream key for the intended stream and entered them correctly. If the key may have been exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder or service.
  • YouTube reports poor stream health: Check the encoder’s connection and output settings, then compare the selected bitrate with YouTube’s current table for the chosen resolution, frame rate, and codec. Test again in the Live Control Room preview.
  • The feed starts but playback or audio is wrong: Preview representative sections before launch and verify both motion and audio in the encoder output and YouTube preview.
  • The schedule exceeds a service’s allowed duration: Check that provider’s terms and scheduling limits. For example, OneStream Live’s cited 30-day maximum is specific to its documented 24/7 feature, not a platform-wide YouTube limit.
  • A video is blocked, restricted, or interrupted: Check the material’s rights and YouTube policy compliance. YouTube may age-restrict or remove violating streams; do not assume that a file’s availability means it is cleared for live rebroadcast.

Plan the duration and replay expectations

Do not assume a continuous broadcast will be saved in full as a replay. The reviewed YouTube materials do not establish a universal archive duration for a 24/7 stream. If you need a replay, check the current settings and behavior for your particular stream and channel rather than promising that the entire broadcast will remain available.

YouTube’s API documentation also describes an advanced setup in which a continuous broadcast and a separate interview broadcast run simultaneously using the same stream; when the interview ends, the continuous broadcast can continue. This is an optional advanced arrangement, not a requirement for a basic playlist stream. See YouTube’s documentation on broadcasts and streams.
