Super Chat and Super Stickers are one-time purchases that highlight a viewer’s message or sticker in live chat; channel memberships are recurring monthly payments for channel-specific perks. For a 24/7 YouTube channel, Supers fit viewers who want a visible, one-off interaction, while memberships fit core fans who value ongoing access or recognition. They can complement each other, but YouTube publishes no head-to-head earnings or conversion data for 24/7 channels—so choose based on your audience and what you can reliably offer.
How the two features differ
| Decision point | Super Chat and Super Stickers | Channel memberships |
|---|---|---|
| Payment pattern | Individual purchases during eligible live streams or Premieres. | Recurring monthly payments. |
| What the viewer gets | A highlighted live-chat message or an animated sticker surfaced in chat. | Access to selected channel perks, depending on membership level. |
| Best fit | A viewer who wants a visible, one-time way to interact or show support. | A core fan who wants continuing community access, recognition, or other recurring perks. |
| What the creator must provide | An eligible video with live chat and comments enabled. | A sustainable perk offer that fits the channel and its membership levels. |
| 24/7-specific earnings comparison | No comparative result for 24/7 channels is established in the cited YouTube guidance. | No comparative result for 24/7 channels is established in the cited YouTube guidance. |
YouTube’s general livestream advice presents Supers as a way to support direct interaction and faster acknowledgment. It frames memberships as a way to deepen ties with a passionate niche community through benefits such as loyalty badges and custom emoji. Its guidance does not establish that either feature converts better or earns more on a continuously running stream.
Which fits your 24/7 channel?
Choose Supers when chat interaction is the point
Supers are more naturally suited to a channel where viewers drop into live chat and want their message or sticker to stand out in the moment. A continuous broadcast does not by itself make that interaction compelling: consider whether people actually use chat and whether someone can acknowledge messages in a useful way.
Choose memberships when you can sustain ongoing perks
Memberships make sense when regular viewers have a reason to support the channel month after month and the creator can maintain benefits at the promised level. YouTube lists possible benefits including badges, custom emoji, members-only posts, early access, members-only chat during public streams, members-only live streams, milestone chats, members-only Shorts and videos, and other creator perks. Benefits vary by channel and level; no channel should imply every listed perk is included.

YouTube’s own advice puts the fit this way: “Do you have a small, but incredibly passionate niche community? Memberships may be a great way to connect deeper with your core fans.”
Use both if they serve different needs
The features are not mutually exclusive. A viewer might make a one-time Super purchase during a moment of activity, while another values ongoing membership perks. Offer both only if the channel is eligible and each has a clear purpose; adding a payment option is not a substitute for a useful community experience.
Check eligibility and video restrictions
YouTube’s baseline fan-funding requirements are that the channel participates in the YouTube Partner Program, the creator is at least 18, and the creator lives in a country or region where the specific feature is available. Creators must also accept and comply with applicable terms, meet the feature’s detailed requirements, and activate it in YouTube Studio. These are baseline conditions, not a complete feature-by-feature eligibility checklist; regional availability and rules can change. Confirm current status in Studio and review YouTube’s Commerce Products monetization policies.

What 24/7 operation changes—and what it does not
A stream running continuously can give viewers more chances to arrive at different times, but that fact alone does not show that Supers or memberships will earn more. The relevant practical questions are whether viewers participate in chat, whether your membership perks remain worthwhile over time, and whether the channel meets YouTube’s rules. YouTube’s reviewed guidance provides no 24/7-specific comparison of revenue, conversion, or retention between these features.
Fan-funding features are not crowdfunding or donation tools under YouTube’s policies. Do not describe a Super purchase as a tax-free donation or assume a particular net payout; applicable treatment can depend on relevant laws and circumstances. YouTube also lists ads and YouTube Premium revenue as livestream revenue options, separate from this Supers-versus-memberships decision. Its live-stream monetization guidance says ad slots are not guaranteed to serve. A figure in that guidance concerns automatic mid-roll ad settings—not a Supers or membership earnings comparison: YouTube reported that creators who chose automatic live mid-rolls saw, on average, over 20% uplift in instream ad revenue per hour compared with channels without live automatic mid-roll ads, averaged across 207 countries in January 2024.

Set up a 24/7 stream separately from monetization
Super Chat and memberships are monetization features; neither keeps a broadcast running. YouTube documents optional IFTTT applets that can react when a viewer sends a Super Chat or joins as a channel member, including actions involving online services or connected devices. Some actions require a compatible device. This is an optional automation path, not a requirement for either feature; see YouTube’s IFTTT guidance.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your 24/7 channel loops uploaded recordings rather than broadcasting a live camera, StreamNeo keeps the YouTube stream running from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; uploads stream as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
