YouTube’s viewer-side Loop command only repeats a regular video for one viewer; it does not create a live broadcast. For a continuous feed, prepare a loop-ready source, configure the stream, test the joins and monitor the broadcast.
Choose how to create the continuous live feed
The looping has to happen in the system sending video to YouTube Live—not in a viewer’s playback controls. YouTube lists streaming software, cloud playout services and dedicated hardware as possible encoder routes. These options differ in control, upkeep and dependency; YouTube’s listings are not comparative reliability tests.

- OBS on a computer: YouTube lists OBS as free, open-source recording and streaming software. This is a practical do-it-yourself route if you have a suitable computer and are comfortable operating an encoder. The computer, connection and configured loop source must remain available for the broadcast.
- Another cloud playout service: YouTube’s encoder directory lists Gyre and Upstream for continuous prerecorded streaming. Confirm each provider’s current features, pricing, recovery behavior and terms before choosing; the directory listing does not establish performance.
- Dedicated hardware: YouTube describes the AJA HELO Plus as a standalone H.264 encoder whose PlayToStream functionality can schedule prerecorded media for YouTube Live without a computer. It is a specialized appliance, not a requirement for every channel.
Prepare the channel and create a stream
- Confirm live-stream access. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Enabling live streaming for the first time may take up to 24 hours, so do not leave activation until just before launch. YouTube’s encoder setup guide and live-streaming tips explain the current requirements.
- Create or schedule an encoder stream in YouTube Studio. In the stream’s settings, find the stream URL and stream key. YouTube’s live stream settings guide covers stream keys, privacy, latency, DVR, rights management and other controls; labels may change as Studio is updated.
- Enter the connection details in your encoder. Copy the stream URL and key into the selected software, service or hardware device. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone with it may be able to send a feed to your channel. Do not publish it or show it on screen.
- Set the event’s privacy and viewing options. Choose public, unlisted or private as appropriate. DVR lets viewers pause and rewind during a live stream. Lower latency can increase buffering, and YouTube notes that low latency matters less when you are not interacting with viewers.
Prepare a video or playlist for a clean loop
Configure the encoder or playout service to restart the file at its end, or to return to the first item after the final playlist item. YouTube’s setup documentation does not prescribe a particular OBS scene or source configuration, so use the current controls for your chosen tool rather than relying on assumed interface steps.
- Inspect the seam: Compare the last and first frames. A large jump in framing, brightness or motion can make the restart obvious.
- Listen across the boundary: Match audio level and ambience. A short fade can hide a hard cut, but fading to silence may draw attention to the join.
- Check the whole program: Look for black frames, abrupt audio cutoffs, silence, long title cards or a spoken introduction that repeats awkwardly.
- For playlists: Check every transition, verify item order and preview the return from the final item to the first.
- Preview multiple repetitions: A loop that looks acceptable once may reveal a noticeable seam after several cycles. Smoothness depends on the source edit; it is not something YouTube guarantees.
Set encoder quality and connection parameters
Use a resolution and bitrate that your sustained upload connection can support, with headroom for normal network variation. The figures below are YouTube’s recommended bitrate ranges, not guaranteed minimum connection speeds. Its encoder settings guide provides current recommendations.

- Rate control: YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR).
- Keyframes: Set a two-second interval; YouTube says it should not exceed four seconds.
- Video codecs: YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS ingest, up to 60 fps.
- Audio: YouTube lists AAC or MP3.
- Transport: YouTube recommends RTMPS.
YouTube transcodes the incoming stream into different output formats for viewers on different devices and networks. Choose settings for the feed you send, then test how it appears in the preview rather than assuming every viewer receives the same encoded output.
Test the stream before leaving it unattended
- Start early: YouTube recommends setting up an encoder at least two hours before a scheduled event and starting it at least 15 minutes beforehand.
- Test representative content: Include the real kind of motion and audio your loop contains. A static test image will not reveal every issue in a music or video program.
- Check Live Control Room: Confirm the preview appears, review stream health and listen for audio problems.
- Check viewer access: Open the channel or watch page as a viewer and verify access on mobile devices, as well as on the device used for setup.
- Test recovery: If your encoder or provider offers backup-encoder failover, test it before relying on it. Decide who will notice and respond to a failed source, computer, power supply or internet connection.
YouTube’s encoder settings guide recommends testing before going live, while its live-streaming tips cover advance setup, preview, access checks and monitoring.

Protect the broadcast and its content
Use only video and audio you have the rights to stream. YouTube provides rights-management controls, but their presence does not establish that a particular song, recording or video is cleared for your use. Check the rights for every item in a playlist, including music that may be licensed only for personal or on-demand playback.
Live streams can be public, private or unlisted. YouTube also describes ads and Super Chat as possible live-stream earnings, with memberships available to some channels; these are platform options, not guaranteed access or income. Review the applicable eligibility and rights settings in Studio before relying on monetization.

Plan for long runtimes and archives
A 24/7 broadcast needs more than a loop: monitor audio and video over time and have a recovery plan for failures. A service description that says “24/7” is not, by itself, a guarantee of uninterrupted service. Keep a local copy of the final source and a separate recovery plan; YouTube’s documentation does not prescribe a particular backup-storage arrangement.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume the same automatic archive behavior for a stream that exceeds 12 hours. If the recording matters, plan separately for preserving and checking the resulting file.

Common problems and fixes
