Add a static subscribe reminder to an encoder-based stream by placing text or an image in your streaming scene. In OBS, a subscribe alert that appears only when someone subscribes is different: it needs a third-party alert service that supports that YouTube event. Preview the layout before leaving a continuous stream unattended.
Choose between a reminder and a subscriber alert
A static reminder stays on screen whether or not anyone subscribes—for example, “Enjoying the stream? Subscribe.” An event-triggered alert appears in response to a new subscription. The first can be made with a text or image source in your encoder; the second depends on an alert provider that supports the relevant YouTube event.
YouTube lists mobile, webcam, encoder, and console as ways to go live. Its guidance identifies encoders as a way to stream with overlays, so the steps below apply to an encoder workflow rather than every streaming method. YouTube Help: Get started with live streaming.
Add a static reminder in OBS
- Prepare the reminder. Write a short prompt and choose whether to display it as text or as a graphic. Keep the wording concise and use colors and sizing that remain legible over your video.
- Open the scene used for the live stream. In OBS, select the scene that feeds your YouTube stream so the reminder is added to the correct layout.
- Add a source. Add a text source for a simple message or an image source for a prepared graphic. Position and size it in the preview where it will not obscure important video content.
- Check the full layout. Preview the scene at the stream’s intended output size and check that the reminder is readable and not covering key content. Make any placement or size adjustments before relying on the scene for a continuous stream.
- Start the stream with that scene active. The reminder will remain visible as long as the scene containing its source is being output.
Use a Browser Source for an event-triggered alert
OBS does not directly provide stream alerts. Its guidance says third-party alert overlays can be embedded in a stream using a Browser Source. That establishes a general way to display a provider’s overlay; it does not establish that any particular provider supports a YouTube new-subscriber event. - Verify the provider first. Check its current documentation for YouTube integration and explicit support for new-subscriber events. Do not assume that a provider’s generic alert overlay includes this event.
- Copy the overlay URL from the provider. Use the provider’s own setup instructions; the exact steps and event options depend on the service.
- Add a Browser Source in OBS. Paste the overlay URL into the source settings and set the dimensions and placement to fit your scene, following the provider’s instructions.
- Test before going live. Use the provider’s test function if available and preview the scene. Confirm that the alert appears in the intended location and does not obscure the content.
If the service does not document YouTube subscriber-event support, use a static reminder instead of presenting the overlay as a working subscribe alert.
Keep the prompt clear and compliant
YouTube’s rules for its official Subscribe Button say buttons must be fully and clearly visible, prohibit offering or promoting prizes or rewards in exchange for clicking, and prohibit tracking user data related to actions on the button, including clicks. These conditions address use of the official button and its branding; they should not be treated as a blanket ban on ordinary on-screen text prompts. - Keep any official Subscribe Button fully visible; do not cover it with other graphics.
- Do not track data about viewers’ actions on the official button.
Check the stream before leaving it running
An overlay can look different against moving or changing video than it does in a still preview. Check it against representative content and confirm that text remains readable, the graphic stays in frame, and the prompt does not cover important details. The available platform and OBS guidance explains overlay options, but does not specify a special 24/7 configuration or certify unattended reliability.
