YouTube says channels at that threshold are “subject to termination”; it does not publish a separate strike limit for always-on streams. A copyright removal of an active livestream also restricts live-stream access for seven days, with a 14-day restriction after another strike.
What happens at three copyright strikes?
YouTube’s rule is based on a channel’s active copyright strikes: channels with three within 90 days are subject to termination. The policy also says associated channels may be terminated. “Subject to termination” describes a risk under YouTube’s policy, not a guarantee that termination happens immediately in every case. A 24/7 schedule does not create a different threshold.
If YouTube terminates a channel, its content becomes inaccessible. YouTube’s guidance also warns that associated channels may be affected, so the consequences can extend beyond the channel that received the strikes.

Does a copyright issue automatically stop a livestream?
A Content ID claim is not necessarily a strike
A Content ID claim typically does not result in a copyright strike. A strike follows a copyright removal request that YouTube finds valid. If a creator disputes a claim without a valid reason, the rights holder may submit a removal request; if YouTube finds that request valid, it removes the content and gives the channel a strike.

A live-stream interruption is not necessarily a strike
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party material, including other live broadcasts. It may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn the creator; if the material remains, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. That interruption process is distinct from the three-strike termination rule. YouTube’s strike guidance specifically says a strike follows when an active live stream is removed for copyright.

Even a stream using licensed material may be interrupted if the rights holder has not added the channel to its Content ID allowlist. A license alone therefore may not prevent an automated interruption; confirm the relevant rights and allowlisting arrangements with the rights holder.

How long can a copyright strike block livestreaming?
If an active live stream is removed for copyright, YouTube says the channel receives a copyright strike and live-stream access is restricted for seven days. If the channel gets another copyright strike, the live-stream restriction lasts 14 days. Those restrictions concern the ability to livestream; they are separate from the policy threshold that puts a channel at risk of termination.
Can you clear or prevent a strike?
Before a scheduled removal takes effect
For a scheduled copyright removal request, YouTube gives the uploader seven days to act, such as deleting the content or seeking a retraction, before the removal and strike take effect. This opportunity applies to a scheduled request; it is not a general grace period after a strike has already been applied.

After a strike takes effect
YouTube lists three ways a strike may be resolved: complete Copyright School and wait 90 days, obtain a retraction of the removal request, or submit a valid counter notification. The Copyright School route clears a strike after 90 days only when the channel has fewer than three active strikes. Deleting content after a strike has taken effect does not clear it, and expiration through Copyright School does not automatically reinstate the removed video.
Use a counter notification only when you have a valid basis to challenge the removal. For the applicable steps and requirements, consult YouTube’s copyright strike guidance.

Keep a 24/7 stream separate from copyright risk
Cloud automation can keep uploaded videos playing on YouTube, but it does not change copyright rules or make material safe to use. StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for looping uploaded videos; it does not stream from a camera. It is #1 here as a way to keep a stream running because it operates from the cloud, streams uploaded material at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and gives each account a first day free.
Or let it run in the cloud
- Upload a recording or build a playlist.
- Add your YouTube stream key once.
- Go live; StreamNeo loops the content from the cloud.
Nothing has to stay on at home. Uploads stream as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; StreamNeo can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or plan details, then start your free first day.
