A YouTube Brand Account owner or manager can phone-verify the channel, but verification alone does not guarantee live-stream access. The channel must also meet YouTube’s general eligibility rules; mobile streaming has extra requirements. Check the channel’s status in YouTube Studio before troubleshooting your phone, webcam, or encoder.
How to enable live streaming on a Brand Account
- Open YouTube Studio. Go to Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility (YouTube may label this area “Features”). Check the status for the channel you want to stream from.
- Complete phone verification if needed. YouTube Help says, “If you have a brand account, the owner and managers can phone-verify a channel.” Follow the verification flow in Studio settings. For a channel that is not a Brand Account, YouTube says only the owner can phone-verify it. YouTube’s verification instructions explain the process and the features it unlocks.
- Check the remaining eligibility conditions. Confirm that the channel is verified, has had no live-streaming restriction in the past 90 days, and that the creator meets the minimum age of 16.
- Allow for first-use activation. Once live streaming is enabled, YouTube says the first stream may take up to 24 hours to become available. This timing note is specifically stated for mobile live streaming.
- Start from an available streaming route. YouTube documents mobile, webcam, encoder, and console methods. The method you use does not replace channel verification or eligibility checks.
Phone verification unlocks access to features that include live streaming; it is not an approval that overrides a restriction or other eligibility requirement. Also, YouTube’s Brand Account guidance establishes who may phone-verify the channel, not that every manager can start a broadcast simply because of their role. Check the account’s permissions and the channel’s current Studio status.
General requirements and mobile-specific rules
YouTube’s general live-streaming requirements apply regardless of whether you broadcast through a webcam, encoder, or another supported route. Mobile live streaming adds a subscriber threshold and a first-use activation estimate.
| Requirement | General live streaming | Mobile live streaming |
|---|---|---|
| Channel verification | Required | Required |
| Live-stream restriction history | No live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days | No live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days |
| Minimum creator age | 16 | 16, under YouTube’s general live-streaming rules |
| Subscriber threshold | No general threshold stated on YouTube’s cited general live-streaming page | At least 50 subscribers |
| First-use activation timing | No estimate stated on the cited general page | May take up to 24 hours after enabling live streaming |
These requirements are based on YouTube Help’s current live-streaming and mobile-streaming guidance. YouTube’s eligibility rules can change, so the Feature eligibility page for the individual channel is the most useful check of its current status. See YouTube’s live-streaming overview and mobile live-streaming requirements.

Why a Brand Account channel may still be unable to go live
- Phone verification is incomplete. A Brand Account owner or manager can complete it, but the channel still needs to meet the separate live-streaming rules.
- The channel is not verified or has a recent restriction. YouTube requires channel verification and no live-streaming restriction in the prior 90 days.
- You are trying to stream from the mobile app with fewer than 50 subscribers. That subscriber minimum applies to mobile live streaming; the cited general live-streaming page does not state a general subscriber threshold.
- The first stream is not available yet. For mobile live streaming, YouTube says activation may take up to 24 hours after enabling the feature.
- The creator does not meet the minimum age. YouTube’s general live-streaming guidance sets the minimum age at 16. It also describes additional requirements for streams featuring 13–15-year-olds without a visibly accompanying adult; review YouTube’s current rules before planning such a stream.
- You are relying on the streaming method to grant access. A webcam, encoder, mobile device, or console is a way to broadcast, not a substitute for channel eligibility.
What to do if access is still unavailable
- Return to YouTube Studio → Settings → Channel → Features / Feature eligibility and confirm you are checking the intended channel.
- Verify that phone verification is complete. For a Brand Account, the owner or a manager may phone-verify the channel.
- Review the channel for a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days.
- If using the YouTube mobile app, confirm the channel has at least 50 subscribers and allow up to 24 hours after enabling live streaming for the first broadcast.
- Confirm the creator meets the age requirement and review any relevant age-related guidance from YouTube.
- If Studio appears to show eligibility but access remains unavailable, use YouTube’s in-product feedback or creator support options where available. Public guidance cannot determine account-specific restrictions for you.
Policy rules that affect live access
Live streams must follow YouTube’s Community Guidelines and Terms of Service. YouTube says a live-stream strike prevents live streaming for 14 days. A creator with an active restriction may not use another channel to evade it; switching channels is not a valid workaround. Consult YouTube’s live-streaming guidance for current policy details.

If your channel is already eligible and you want a pre-recorded video or playlist to stay live on YouTube, StreamNeo is a separate option from enabling live access: upload your video, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for uploaded videos and playlists on YouTube, not live camera broadcasts. Start the free first day.
