Yes. YouTube scans livestreams for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted music. If a match is found and the music continues, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. If you archive the stream, a separate Content ID claim may be made after the livestream ends. A music license does not necessarily prevent a live interruption: YouTube advises licensed creators to ask the rights owner to add their channel to the Content ID allowlist.

What YouTube can do when it detects music

YouTube says all livestreams are scanned for matches to third-party content. When it identifies a match, it may display a placeholder image and warn the creator to stop using the content. If the content remains, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with livestreams does not give a detection percentage or a per-track risk estimate.

A 24/7 schedule does not create an exception to these rules. A continuous broadcast can mean extended exposure to matching, but YouTube does not state a special 24/7 detection rate.

Live interruptions and archive claims are different

A stream that stays live without interruption is not necessarily clear of a later copyright claim. If you choose to archive the livestream, YouTube says Content ID claims on the archive are made after the stream completes. A Content ID claim asserts ownership of a video; by itself, it is not a copyright strike. A copyright takedown is a separate process, and YouTube’s live-scanning process can interrupt or terminate a stream independently of an archive claim. See YouTube’s explanation of Content ID claims and its livestream guidance.

A license may not stop a live interruption

YouTube specifically tells creators who have licensed third-party content to ask the rights owner to add their channel to the Content ID allowlist. A stream may still be interrupted if the channel is not allowlisted, even when the creator has a license. Ask the rights owner about its allowlisting process before broadcasting, and keep the license and confirmation available. YouTube’s livestream copyright guidance explains this distinction.

You remain responsible for having the necessary rights for both the live broadcast and any archive. YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions place that responsibility on the provider, including music rights involving artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants.

Check the music and permissions before going live

  1. Identify the exact track and recording. Confirm rights for both the musical composition and the specific recording. A “free” label or purchase receipt alone does not show that a track is cleared for your intended use. YouTube warns that a description calling music free does not prevent a Content ID match, and it cannot determine rights you purchased elsewhere.
  2. Read the license for the actual use. Verify that it covers continuous livestream broadcasting, the territories where the stream will be available, and any archived or retained video. Check attribution requirements and other conditions. YouTube’s livestream terms address rights for both live content and archives.
  3. Ask about Content ID allowlisting. If the track is licensed from a third party, ask the rights owner how to have your channel allowlisted before you start the stream. Keep written confirmation and your license documentation.
  4. Consider music with clearly suitable terms. YouTube recommends original music, tracks from the YouTube Audio Library, and third-party sources whose permissions you have checked. Review each track’s terms, including any attribution or use conditions, rather than assuming every track in a library is suitable for continuous live use. See YouTube’s tips to find safe music.
  5. Do not rely on Creator Music for a livestream. YouTube says Creator Music does not support licensing for live content; its licensed or revenue-share tracks are for long-form videos, not livestreams. Check YouTube’s Creator Music FAQ and usage details.

Or let it run in the cloud

StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos; it does not clear music rights or prevent Content ID matches. The process is to upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded content from the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on.

  • There is one flat price per slot for any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps, with no re-encoding or quality tiers.
  • If YouTube drops the stream, StreamNeo attempts automatic recovery.
  • The first day is free with no card required.
  • The monthly option is $9.99 per month.

Before streaming, you still need music rights that cover the live use and any archive, and you may need the rights owner to allowlist your channel. See StreamNeo, or start the free first day.
