Find your YouTube ingest URL and stream key in YouTube Studio under Create → Go Live → Stream. Copy the URL into your encoder’s server field and the key into its stream-key field. Use RTMPS if your encoder supports it, keep the key private, and—if the broadcast is scheduled—check its preview in Live Control Room and click Go live.
Find the YouTube stream URL and key

Sign in to YouTube Studio and choose Create → Go Live to open Live Control Room.

Select the Stream tab. Create a stream if prompted. For a first stream, edit its details and create it; returning creators may see settings from a previous stream.

In Live Control Room, locate Stream URL and Stream key. The URL is the destination for the encoder. The key lets YouTube identify and accept the incoming feed.

If the encoder offers a YouTube or YouTube RTMPS preset, select it and enter the key if requested. Otherwise, copy the URL into the encoder’s server or RTMP field and the key into its Stream Key field.
YouTube’s documented workflow does not establish a different URL or key process for Indian creators. It also does not establish that every new channel can stream immediately or specify current India-specific activation thresholds. Check your own Live Control Room for channel eligibility or any setup prompts.
Choose RTMPS and connect your encoder
Prefer RTMPS when your encoder supports it. RTMPS is RTMP protected by TLS/SSL encryption. In Live Control Room, use the lock icon in the Stream URL field to retrieve the RTMPS URL; you can also get it when scheduling a stream. Use the exact URL shown there rather than substituting a host or protocol.

Open your encoder’s streaming settings and select a YouTube preset, if available, or choose its custom server option.

Enter the Live Control Room URL in the server field and the stream key in the key field. Confirm that the selected protocol matches the URL, especially when using RTMPS.

Set the encoder’s video, audio and bitrate settings, then start sending the stream from the encoder.

For a scheduled broadcast, wait for the preview to appear in Live Control Room, check the incoming audio and video, then click Go live.
Starting the encoder sends a feed to YouTube; it does not necessarily publish a scheduled event to viewers. The explicit Go live action in Live Control Room is part of that scheduled workflow.
Set quality to match your connection
YouTube detects encoder settings and transcodes the live feed for viewers. Its recommendations depend on codec, resolution and frame rate, so use the current YouTube encoder settings and bitrate table for your chosen combination. The figures below are YouTube’s H.264 guidance, not a measure of Indian broadband performance:

These are YouTube recommendations in its encoder guidance accessed in 2026. Your usable upload capacity can vary over time, so choose a setting your connection can sustain reliably rather than treating the recommended bitrate as a guarantee of stable delivery.
- Protocol: Prefer RTMPS when supported.
- Video: YouTube’s current guidance recommends H.264 and supports up to 60 fps.
- Rate control: Use constant bitrate encoding.
- Keyframes: Set a two-second interval; YouTube says not to exceed four seconds.
- Audio: YouTube recommends AAC or MP3.
Test with audio and movement similar to the planned broadcast, then monitor stream health and messages in Live Control Room. If low latency matters for interaction, weigh that against YouTube’s warning that lower latency can result in more buffering.

Treat the stream key as a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Do not publish it, share it in screenshots, or include it in public documents. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.”

You can create a custom key for reuse. If a key is exposed, a channel owner or manager can reset it in Live Control Room. Replace the saved key in every encoder or service that uses it; otherwise, those senders will no longer authenticate with the reset key.
End the broadcast and keep an archive
When finished, end the broadcast from Live Control Room and stop sending from the encoder as directed in YouTube’s current workflow. YouTube’s encoder help page says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume that applies to broadcasts of 12 hours or longer.
Troubleshoot URL, key and preview problems
- The encoder cannot connect: Check that the URL and key are copied into their matching fields, and confirm that there are no extra spaces. If you selected RTMPS, use the RTMPS URL from the lock-icon field and make sure the encoder supports RTMPS.
- An SSL error persists: YouTube suggests trying port 443 when an SSL connection error continues. Make this change only if your encoder exposes a port setting, and keep the RTMPS URL and protocol consistent.
- YouTube does not accept the key: Check for a copied or mistyped key. If the key was reset, update the encoder with the new key. Only a channel owner or manager can reset it.
- The encoder is sending, but the scheduled broadcast is not live: Check whether the preview has appeared in Live Control Room, then click Go live.
- The stream drops or the health indicator shows problems: Review YouTube’s stream-health messages, test representative audio and motion, and reduce the encoder quality or bitrate if your upload connection cannot sustain the selected settings.
