Yes. YouTube’s general documentation says you can create a custom stream key for reuse, and load settings from a previous stream. That lets an encoder reconnect using the same key; it does not make the key itself a 24/7 playlist system or guarantee one uninterrupted live event. YouTube’s cited archive guidance covers streams under 12 hours, not a single archive for longer broadcasts.
What reusing a YouTube stream key does—and does not do
A stream key is a credential that lets an encoder connect its video feed to YouTube. In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, you can create a custom key intended for repeated use. When you return to the encoder workflow, YouTube also lets you load a previous stream’s settings, including its key. See YouTube’s Manage live stream settings.
Reusing the key means the encoder can connect again with that credential. It does not schedule a playlist, loop a video, keep an encoder running, monitor the feed, or guarantee uninterrupted uptime. The encoder must still send video and audio, and you must start and end the stream through the workflow for the mode you are using. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions describe entering the Live server URL and stream key in the encoder.
YouTube’s cited documentation describes general rules; it does not identify a separate India-specific rule for reusing keys. The same general guidance is therefore the relevant guidance for Indian creators.

How to set up a reusable key for recurring playlist streams
- Check that the channel can go live. YouTube’s current live-streaming eligibility guidance says a channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days, and meet the minimum age requirement of 16. YouTube’s page also lists limits of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key. These are current page figures as of 2026; YouTube does not display a publication year for them, and platform rules can change.
- Open the Stream tab in YouTube Studio. Go to Go Live and choose the Stream workflow. Create a custom stream key if you want one to reuse, or load settings from a previous stream if appropriate. See YouTube’s stream-settings instructions.
- Put the connection details in your encoder. Enter YouTube’s Live server URL and the custom stream key in the encoder’s corresponding fields. Keep the key private: anyone who gets it may be able to send a feed to your stream. YouTube documents how to reset a compromised key in Live Control Room; after a reset, replace the old key in the encoder.
- Start the encoder feed and check the preview. Start the feed from the encoder, then confirm that the Live Control Room preview shows the expected video and audio before starting the live event as required by your stream mode. Follow YouTube’s encoder workflow for the relevant start and end controls.
- For another session, reconnect with the same key. Reuse the custom key or load the previous settings, then start the encoder feed again. This is a recurring-session setup; it is not, by itself, a continuously running playlist service.

The 12-hour archive statement is YouTube Help’s current guidance, recorded in 2026; the page does not show a publication year. It says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. It does not promise that a stream lasting longer than 12 hours will be archived as one video.
Do you need a hardware encoder?
No dedicated hardware requirement is stated for a playlist stream. YouTube describes software and hardware encoder options and recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production-value events. That is a recommendation for certain production needs, not evidence that a hardware encoder is necessary for a recurring or continuous playlist. Copyright and channel-policy checks for a 24/7 playlist
- Use video and audio that you have the rights or permissions to livestream. A reusable key does not grant rights to the playlist content.
- Review YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and restrictions before scheduling recurring sessions. The channel eligibility figures cited above are current page guidance, not a guarantee that an individual channel is eligible.
- Do not assume that looping prerecorded material is automatically acceptable for monetization or satisfies every YouTube policy. The cited setup pages explain connection and archive behavior, not a blanket approval of any playlist’s content or monetization.
