In OBS Studio, add the demo as a Media Source and enable Loop. Keep OBS streaming; the clip will restart while the broadcast continues.
Choose how the demo should repeat
| What you want to play | OBS source | Setting | What to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| One demo video repeatedly | Media Source | Loop | OBS restarts the file after playback completes. Loop is off by default for Media Sources. |
| Several demo clips in sequence | VLC Video source | Loop Playlist | VLC must be installed for this source type. |
Looping the source repeats the video inside the encoder feed. It is different from YouTube Live Redirect, which sends viewers to a Premiere or another live stream after the current stream ends; Redirect does not replay the current demo or keep that same broadcast running.
Set up a looping OBS stream
- Create or schedule the YouTube broadcast. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule an encoder-based live stream. Copy its stream URL and stream key into the encoder’s connection settings. Treat the stream key like a password: it controls where YouTube accepts the feed.
- Add the demo video in OBS. Create or select a scene, add a Media Source, and select the local video file. Open the source properties and turn on Loop. For a multi-clip rotation, use a VLC Video source, add the clips to its playlist, and enable Loop Playlist.
- Check the scene and repeat point. Preview the video in OBS, including the moment it reaches the end and starts again. YouTube recommends checking the Live Control Room preview before going live. The documentation does not guarantee a perfectly seamless audio or visual transition at every loop point, so inspect the actual result and adjust the file or scene layout if needed.
- Start the feed and verify it in YouTube. Start streaming from OBS and confirm that the Live Control Room receives the feed and that the broadcast is live. Check audio and video, verify viewers can access the watch page, and monitor stream quality during the event.
- Leave the encoder running. The loop repeats the source, but OBS must continue sending the feed for the YouTube broadcast to stay active. When the event is over, stop the encoder content and end the stream as appropriate in Live Control Room.
Check YouTube settings and plan for the recording
Auto-start and auto-stop
YouTube’s auto-start and auto-stop settings govern whether a broadcast starts or stops from the encoder; they do not make a video loop. Check them when reusing stream settings, because YouTube says reused settings also copy these selections.
Archive and DVR expectations
YouTube automatically archives streams under 12 hours. For streams longer than 12 hours, DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable. Treat keeping the live feed active, making an archive, and allowing viewers to rewind as separate considerations; do not promise a full replay or rewind for a longer broadcast.

Handing viewers to another program
If the demo should finish rather than repeat and you want to direct viewers elsewhere, Live Redirect can send them to a Premiere or another live stream after the current stream ends. Set up the Premiere first. YouTube advises telling viewers to wait about two seconds for their screens to reload after the redirect.
Troubleshoot a stream that stops or fails to repeat
- The broadcast ends when the clip ends: Confirm that Loop is enabled on the correct OBS Media Source and that OBS is still streaming. The source’s Loop setting is off by default.
- A playlist does not repeat: Check that you used the VLC Video source and enabled Loop Playlist. VLC must be installed for this source type.
- YouTube does not receive the encoder feed: Recheck the stream URL and stream key entered in OBS, then inspect the Live Control Room preview. Keep the key private.
- Viewers report missing audio or poor video: Check the OBS scene and audio sources, then monitor the incoming stream in Live Control Room. Test the complete setup before the event rather than relying only on a local preview.
- The video visibly or audibly jumps at the repeat point: Preview the transition in the intended scene. If it is distracting, adjust the video or production layout; seamless looping is not guaranteed by the source setting.
