To stream a product showcase playlist on YouTube Live, use an encoder such as OBS Studio to send the videos to a scheduled YouTube broadcast. In OBS, add the clips to a VLC Video source in the order you want, connect OBS to YouTube with the event’s stream URL and key, then check YouTube’s preview before going live. A YouTube playlist page by itself does not become a live broadcast.

Before you build the stream

Check that your channel can go live

YouTube says a channel must be verified, must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and the person streaming must be at least 16. See YouTube’s getting-started guide for current eligibility details.

Gather clips and confirm rights

Collect the product videos and arrange them in the intended sequence before opening OBS. Make sure you have permission to stream every video, image, music track, and other asset in the showcase. YouTube provides live-stream settings and rights-management information, but permission depends on the specific assets and rights holders; see Manage live stream settings.

Prepare a computer and connection

This workflow needs a computer capable of running OBS and a working internet connection. A microphone is optional if someone will narrate or answer questions live; it is not required for a prerecorded showcase. YouTube’s live streaming tips say expensive equipment is not necessary to get started.

Certified NDI technology enables low-latency gameplay streaming through OBS/vMix. Note: Encoder and decoder modes cannot run simultaneously; full NDI signals are not supported.
  • UVC to HDMI Conversion: Supporting up to 4K@30fps and 1080p@60fps decoding, ZowieBox enables flexible conversion for webcam and video workflows. Build an ordered, looping playlist in OBS

  1. Install OBS Studio and VLC. OBS’s VLC Video source depends on VLC being installed. Match the VLC architecture to OBS: for 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC. If the VLC source is missing later, check both installation and architecture. See OBS Media Sources.
  2. Create a scene. In OBS, create or select a scene for the showcase. Scenes contain the sources that make up the stream layout; add other sources, such as a microphone or camera, only if the presentation needs them. OBS explains these building blocks in its Sources Guide.
  3. Add the playlist source. In the scene’s Sources panel, add a VLC Video source and load the local video files in the order they should play. Keep Shuffle Playlist off for a planned product demonstration. Turn on Loop Playlist if the showcase should repeat; OBS documents Loop Playlist as on by default and Shuffle Playlist as off by default.
  4. Check the full sequence. Play through the clips in OBS before the event. Confirm that each file advances as expected, that the order is right, and that audio levels are consistent from clip to clip. If the showcase should stop after one pass rather than repeat, adjust the playlist’s loop behavior and test that choice.

Schedule the YouTube broadcast

  1. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live, open Manage, then choose Schedule Stream.
  2. Enter the stream title and description, upload a thumbnail, and set visibility. YouTube offers public, private, and unlisted visibility; choose based on whether the audience should find the watch page, only invited viewers should see it, or people with the link should be able to watch.
  3. Schedule ahead if you need a shareable watch page or want viewers to be able to opt into reminders. Set any other event details that matter to your audience.
  4. Open the event in Live Control Room and locate its stream URL and stream key. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions cover the connection flow.

Connect OBS, test, and go live

  1. Enter the event connection details in OBS. Open OBS stream settings and select the YouTube connection option, then enter the stream URL and key from Live Control Room if prompted. A stream key works like a credential: do not share it or publish it. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update OBS.
  2. Allow time for a proper test. YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours before an event and starting it at least 15 minutes before. Start streaming from OBS, then wait for YouTube to receive the feed and show it in Live Control Room preview.
  3. Verify the actual viewer experience. Check that the correct clip and sound appear in preview, then open the watch page on the kinds of devices your viewers will use. Monitor video and audio quality rather than assuming the OBS preview is enough.
  4. Start the scheduled broadcast deliberately. Once the incoming feed and preview are correct, use Go Live in Live Control Room to start the scheduled event. Sending a feed from OBS and starting the broadcast in YouTube are distinct actions.
  5. End both sides cleanly. For a scheduled encoder stream, select End Stream in YouTube and stop sending from OBS. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived.

Choose settings for the kind of showcase you are running

Latency and DVR

YouTube’s live settings include latency and DVR options. Lower latency can reduce the delay between the presentation and viewers, but may increase buffering. DVR lets viewers pause and resume. If the showcase includes live narration or questions, responsiveness may matter more; for a smooth prerecorded presentation, playback stability may matter more. Review YouTube’s live stream settings before choosing.

Resolution, bitrate, and keyframes

The material available here does not establish a specific resolution, bitrate, or keyframe interval for your showcase. Those values depend on the source video, encoder output, and current YouTube guidance; do not choose a bitrate just because a clip was exported at a particular resolution. Check YouTube’s current encoder recommendations and use OBS’s output settings to match them, then verify the received feed in Live Control Room. The practical test is whether the stream is stable and the product details remain clear on the devices your audience will use.

Copyright and reused material

A live format does not grant rights to prerecorded footage, product photos, music, or other third-party material. Use assets you own or are licensed to stream, and retain documentation of permission where appropriate. YouTube’s live settings include rights-management information, but they cannot establish whether you have the rights to a particular asset. If the showcase will be monetized, do not assume that permission to stream alone answers every separate platform-policy question.

Troubleshoot common problems

  • OBS has no VLC Video source: Install VLC, then confirm its architecture matches OBS. Restart OBS after installation if the source still does not appear.
  • YouTube does not receive the OBS feed: Check that OBS has the correct stream URL and current stream key for the scheduled event. If an encoder error persists, YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance recommends obtaining a current key in Live Control Room and updating the encoder.
  • The preview is blank or shows the wrong content: Confirm OBS is sending the scene that contains the VLC playlist, and check that the correct scheduled event is selected in Live Control Room before starting the broadcast.
  • Clips do not play in the intended order: Recheck the playlist order and make sure Shuffle Playlist is off. Play through the whole sequence before the event.
  • One clip is much louder than another: Review each clip’s audio and listen to the complete sequence in advance. YouTube recommends monitoring audio and video quality continuously during the stream.
  • The event is scheduled but viewers cannot watch: Receiving the encoder feed is not the same as starting the scheduled broadcast. Confirm the preview, then select Go Live in Live Control Room.
  • Viewers report buffering or a noticeable delay: Revisit the latency choice and test playback on viewer devices. Lower latency can reduce delay but can also increase buffering.
