To loop a prerecorded real estate walkthrough during a YouTube Live broadcast, add the local video to an encoder such as OBS Studio, enable the source’s Loop option, and send the encoder output to YouTube Live. YouTube’s watch-page Loop control repeats playback for an individual viewer; it does not make a video into a live broadcast.

What you need before you start

  • A local video file of the property walkthrough and a computer running OBS Studio.
  • A YouTube channel that is verified, has no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and is operated by someone at least 16 years old. YouTube’s live-streaming requirements can change, so check the current eligibility information for your channel.
  • The footage and audio rights or permissions needed to broadcast the video. YouTube requires live content to follow its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service; those platform rules do not determine whether you have permission to show a particular home, its occupants, or the music in your recording.

OBS Media Source supports formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF, and WebM. If OBS cannot play your file, convert it to a supported format before setting up the stream. The OBS control described here is available in the Media Source properties. OBS Media Sources documentation (page dated 2022-01-11).

Loop one walkthrough file with OBS

  1. Review the recording. Play the file from beginning to end. Check the narration, music, and property details, and listen to the point where the video restarts. A hard cut or abrupt audio restart may be distracting when the tour repeats.
  2. Create a scene and add the video. In OBS, select or create a scene, then use Sources → + → Media Source. Create a new source, choose the walkthrough file, and open its properties.
  3. Enable looping. Turn on Loop in the Media Source properties. OBS defines this option as whether the file plays again after playback completes. Fit the source to the scene, then use the preview to check framing and audio. OBS Media Sources documentation.
  4. Create or select the YouTube Live event. Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and create or manage the event. Get the stream URL and stream key from the event’s stream settings. Treat the key as a credential: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your event.
  5. Connect OBS to YouTube. In OBS stream settings, choose YouTube RTMPS if it is available, then enter the event’s stream details. YouTube recommends RTMPS, a secure extension of RTMP. See YouTube’s encoder settings and streaming guidance.
  6. Test before going public. Start the encoder and check the Live Control Room preview. Confirm that the tour fills the intended frame, the audio is right, the loop transition is acceptable, and video continues reaching YouTube. YouTube recommends checking stream health and testing with representative audio and movement. Keep upload bandwidth headroom: its streaming tips recommend about 20% beyond the total bitrate. YouTube live-streaming tips.
  7. Start and monitor the broadcast. Confirm the event’s visibility setting, start the stream, and check playback on the watch page and a mobile device. Continue to monitor the audio and video while the broadcast is running.

Use a playlist for multiple property tours

If the broadcast should rotate through several files, use OBS’s VLC Video source instead of adding a single Media Source for each tour. Add the files in the order you want them to play and enable Loop Playlist. VLC must be installed for this OBS source type to be available. Preview the playlist and its transitions before sending it to YouTube. OBS Media Sources documentation.

Setup Best suited to What to check
Media Source with Loop Repeating one walkthrough file Restart point, framing, and audio at the transition
VLC Video with Loop Playlist Rotating several tours in a chosen order VLC is installed, file order is correct, and transitions work as intended

Choose the right YouTube broadcast method

YouTube supports mobile, webcam, and encoder livestreaming. An encoder is the appropriate fit when the broadcast needs a prerecorded file arranged in an OBS scene, potentially alongside overlays or other scene elements. A webcam or phone workflow is aimed at a live camera feed rather than looping an existing property tour. YouTube’s live-streaming overview.

  • Standalone Game Streaming: Just plug and play—ZowieBox enables PC-free live gaming without affecting gameplay. As an RTMP hardware encoder and HDMI streamer, it delivers stable streaming directly from your source, making it ideal for gaming, live events, and professional broadcasting.
  • NDI|HX3 Converter Technology: ZowieBox converts HDMI signals to NDI|HX3/HX2/HX, functioning as an NDI video encoder, or NDI Video Decoder for flexible IP workflows. Certified NDI technology enables low-latency gameplay streaming through OBS/vMix. Note: Encoder and decoder modes cannot run simultaneously; full NDI signals are not supported.
  • UVC to HDMI Conversion: Supporting up to 4K@30fps and 1080p@60fps decoding, ZowieBox enables flexible conversion for webcam and video workflows. As a video decoder and HDMI to IP converter, it expands connectivity options for professional video devices. Note: USB capture card functionality is not currently supported.
  • All-around Configuration Options: Control ZowieBox through its web UI on a PC, phone, or tablet. Manage connected PTZ cameras, tally light, video/audio, OSD, work mode, streams, network, and system settings. Support for VISCA over IP encoder workflows enables flexible PTZ control, while the dashboard provides video preview and system status.

Plan for long broadcasts and replays

Do not assume viewers can rewind every part of a long livestream or that YouTube will preserve a complete replay. YouTube says DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. It can automatically archive streams under 12 hours and recommends keeping a local archive backup; a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. YouTube’s live-stream DVR information and YouTube’s archive guidance.

Troubleshoot common problems

  • The video plays once and stops: Open the Media Source properties and make sure Loop is enabled. For multiple files, verify Loop Playlist on the VLC Video source.
  • The source is missing or black in OBS: Confirm the source points to the correct local file and that the file uses a supported format. Re-select the file if it was moved; try a supported format if OBS cannot decode it.
  • The YouTube preview does not appear: Check that OBS is sending to the correct event and that the stream URL and key match its Live Control Room settings. Keep the key private.
  • The feed stutters or stream health is poor: Check the internet connection and reduce competing upload traffic. YouTube recommends upload capacity about 20% above the total bitrate; its live-streaming tips also advise monitoring stream health. YouTube live-streaming tips.
  • The loop sounds or looks abrupt: Edit the file’s end and beginning into a more suitable repeat point, then test that transition in the OBS preview before broadcasting.
  • The broadcast has no complete replay: Streams longer than 12 hours may have limited DVR rewind, and a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be archived. Keep a local recording if you need a backup. YouTube’s DVR and archive guidance.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you want a prerecorded walkthrough to keep looping on YouTube without leaving OBS and a computer running at home, StreamNeo runs the uploaded video from the cloud. Upload the recording, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed, and streams to YouTube only.
