There is no special upload-speed requirement just because a YouTube bhajan stream runs 24/7. The starting point is the encoder bitrate for your chosen resolution, frame rate, and codec. For H.264, YouTube recommends 8 Mbps for 720p at 30 or 60 fps, 14 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps, and 17 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. Those are streaming bitrates—not promises that an internet plan advertised at the same upload speed will be stable. Test the actual connection and setup before going live.

Choose the stream settings before choosing an upload target

YouTube’s recommended bitrate depends on the video codec, resolution, and frame rate—not on whether the program lasts an hour or runs all day. Its guidance does not set a separate 24/7 multiplier or a universal ISP upload-speed figure. The table below lists YouTube’s recommended H.264 live-ingestion bitrates; the figures are encoder settings, not internet-plan recommendations. YouTube Help: Live encoder settings

Ingest resolution and frame rate Codec YouTube-recommended encoder bitrate
720p at 30 fps H.264 8 Mbps
720p at 60 fps H.264 8 Mbps
1080p at 30 fps H.264 14 Mbps
1080p at 60 fps H.264 17 Mbps

YouTube’s same settings guidance gives AV1 and H.265/HEVC different recommended values: 6 Mbps for 720p at 30 or 60 fps, 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps, and 12 Mbps for 1080p at 60 fps. Use the row for the codec actually selected in your encoder; do not apply one codec’s number to another.

For an audio-led stream with a devotional still image, you might choose a lower-motion or lower-resolution setup, but that is a production choice—not a separate official YouTube bitrate recommendation. Pick the settings that fit your content and equipment, then use YouTube’s corresponding codec row.

How much upload bandwidth does the connection need?

Your connection must carry the stream’s total outgoing bitrate. That includes video and audio, and any other streams or network traffic sharing the connection. YouTube states that the total streaming bitrate cannot exceed available upload bandwidth. YouTube Help: Streaming tips

Consequently, an encoder configured for a given bitrate needs a connection that can sustain at least that outgoing load in real conditions. A speed-test result is a snapshot, not a guarantee of continuous capacity. Other devices, uploads, variable connection quality, and competing traffic can leave less bandwidth available while the stream is running. YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate, but its reviewed guidance does not prescribe a fixed headroom percentage. Avoid treating any one multiplier as an official requirement.

  • Supports IPv4/IPv6 pack Checksum Offload Engine (COE) to reduce Cental Processing Unit (CPU) loading
  • Compatible with Windows 8.1 or higher, Mac OS

Viewers’ playback bandwidth is not added to your upload requirement. YouTube transcodes the incoming live stream into different output formats for viewers. Your connection sends the source stream to YouTube; YouTube handles the viewer versions.

Test the connection before a 24/7 launch

  1. Run a speed test. YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate. Check the result using the connection and location you will actually stream from, not a different network. YouTube Help: Live encoder settings
  2. Set up the intended encoder configuration. Use the chosen codec, resolution, frame rate, and bitrate. For RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval (not over four seconds), and RTMPS as the secure protocol choice.
  3. Run a realistic preflight. Before the public broadcast, test with audio and movement similar to the planned stream, and with the other expected network activity present. A test using a quiet network or a different video workload may not reflect long-running conditions.
  4. Check YouTube stream health. Monitor the incoming stream during the preflight and after launch. If it is unstable, use the symptoms and adjustments below rather than assuming that the plan’s advertised speed is available continuously.

YouTube’s live settings describe latency as the delay from capture or encoder to viewer playback; choosing lower latency may mean more buffering. Latency is a separate setting from upload capacity and does not replace the bitrate and connection checks. YouTube Help: Live stream settings

Practical fixes if the stream is unstable

  • Available upload capacity is below the configured total bitrate: lower the encoder bitrate or choose a lower resolution or frame rate, then test again. Alternatively, use a connection with sufficient sustained upload capacity. A cable or router cannot create bandwidth your ISP does not supply.
  • The speed test looks adequate but stream health is poor: repeat the preflight while expected household or workplace traffic is active. Pause large uploads or other avoidable traffic, and compare results. The test needs to reflect the conditions under which the continuous stream will operate.
  • The stream uses the wrong bitrate guidance: confirm the codec, resolution, and frame rate in the encoder, then match them to the corresponding YouTube table entry. H.264’s recommended rate is not interchangeable with AV1 or H.265/HEVC’s.
  • A fixed streaming workstation uses Wi-Fi: Ethernet is an option for connecting the workstation by wire. It may help avoid some local wireless variability, but it does not increase the ISP’s upload capacity.
  • The stream connects but viewers report buffering: check YouTube stream health and the selected latency mode. YouTube notes that lower latency can increase buffering; distinguish playback delay or buffering from a lack of upload capacity at the source.

Or let it run in the cloud

If the main concern is keeping a pre-recorded bhajan stream online around the clock, StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud keeps the loop running without a computer, OBS, or home internet connection staying on. It streams the uploaded video as made, up to 4K at 60 fps, at one flat price per slot; it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. A slot includes 10 GB storage, pooled across active slots, and 24/7 looping and playlists. See StreamNeo for details. The Monthly price is $9.99 per month. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
