Cloud-provider pipelines: control and continuity
Google Cloud Live Stream API
Google’s Live Stream API accepts an input, transcodes it into output streams, and publishes the result. Its published limits are service ceilings, not recommended settings for cartoons: input is up to 6 Mbps for SD, 25 Mbps for HD, and 50 Mbps for UHD; output is up to 3 Mbps for SD, 15 Mbps for HD, and 25 Mbps for UHD. These figures and the session behavior are documented in Google Cloud’s quotas and limits, accessed October 3, 2026; the page does not state a publication date.

For an always-on channel, account for the documented 24-hour behavior: a channel may be restarted after 24 hours if it remains in a streaming state other than STOPPED or STOPPING. A continuity plan should explicitly handle that restart rather than assume one uninterrupted session can run indefinitely. See the Live Stream API documentation.
AWS media services
AWS describes a workflow in which MediaLive encodes live video, MediaPackage can prepare content for different device types, and MediaStore can serve a live origin; CloudFront can deliver the resulting stream. AWS also describes 24×7 live channels. This is a set of configurable services rather than a single ready-made looping product. Check ingest compatibility before configuring a pipeline
If the encoder sends HLS to YouTube, the input must meet YouTube’s documented requirements: TS segments lasting 1–4 seconds, a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, and HTTPS POST/PUT requests. YouTube notes that HLS has higher latency than RTMP because HLS sends segments rather than one continuous stream. - Operations effort: A hosted looping service reduces the infrastructure you must configure and maintain. A cloud-provider pipeline gives you component-level control but requires setup, monitoring, and recovery planning.
- Continuity: Ask how the service responds to restarts, outages, source-file changes, and a dropped YouTube connection. For Google Cloud, include the documented 24-hour restart behavior in the design.
- Ingest: Verify that your encoder and YouTube accept the same protocol. If using HLS, check the segment, playlist, and request requirements above.
- Total cost: Estimate the actual resolution, bitrate, runtime, storage, egress, and managed services needed. Current comparable monthly totals for Google Cloud, AWS, and hosted services such as Gyre are not established by the cited service documentation, so no lowest-cost option can be named from those sources.
