To run Sikh devotional music on YouTube around the clock, prepare recordings you have the rights to stream, create a YouTube Live stream, and send it from an encoder using the stream’s server URL and key. Then monitor the feed and plan for interruptions and archives: YouTube scans live streams for third-party content, and a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured as a replay. You can run the encoder yourself or, after setting up the stream, use a cloud service such as StreamNeo to loop uploaded videos while your computer is off.

Plan the stream before you go live

Choose recordings and a format you can sustain

Decide whether the channel will play recorded kirtan, shabad, bhajan, or other Sikh devotional music, and whether it will use a continuous playlist or shorter scheduled live sessions. Make a track-by-track inventory before building the playlist. Keep a copy of the final audio and video files, and note who owns or controls each recording and composition.

For a continuous stream, choose an encoder and operating arrangement that can run reliably for long periods. YouTube supports both software and hardware encoders; hardware is optional. Consider whether you need external audio or video inputs, who will respond to a failure, and whether the setup can record a local archive while it streams. A normal computer-based encoder depends on that computer, its power, and its internet connection staying available.

Clear rights for the actual material

YouTube’s live-stream terms place responsibility on the provider to have the necessary rights for worldwide exploitation, including relevant music rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants, and to meet requirements applicable in the stream territory. Do not assume that a devotional or traditional work is automatically cleared for a particular recording, arrangement, broadcast, or replay. The rights status of a specific Gurbani recording and the licensing rules for a particular location cannot be determined from the general platform guidance; check with the rights holders and qualified local advisers where needed.

For each recording, confirm that permissions cover the uses you intend. In particular, ask about live broadcasting, territories, term, archived replays, monetization, and any Content ID requirements. A permission for one use should not be treated as permission for every other use.

Arrange Content ID allowlisting where required

YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. If it detects material, it may replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it if the content remains. A license or permission letter may therefore not be enough to prevent an automated interruption: when applicable, ask the rights owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Confirm the arrangement with the rights owner before the broadcast rather than waiting for a live claim.

Prepare the YouTube channel and live event

  1. Enable live streaming early. YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. First-time live-stream enablement may take up to 24 hours, so complete this before your planned launch.
  2. Create or schedule the stream. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live → Stream, then create a stream or schedule one. Review the title, description, visibility, and other event details for the channel and its audience.
  3. Copy the connection details. In Live Control Room, copy the YouTube server URL and stream key into the corresponding fields in your software or hardware encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with people who do not need access. Reset it if you think it has been exposed.
  4. Set encoder output using YouTube’s current guidance. YouTube recommends RTMPS, the secure extension to RTMP. Choose a supported video and audio codec, resolution, frame rate, keyframe interval, and bitrate according to the current encoder guidance shown for YouTube Live and what your upload connection can sustain. There is no single bitrate that is right for every resolution, frame rate, encoder, or connection. Avoid selecting a quality your sustained upload cannot maintain.
  5. Check the preview before starting. Start the encoder and wait for its preview in Live Control Room. Confirm that picture and sound are present, the intended playlist is playing, and stream health is acceptable. For a scheduled stream, start the public event only after checking the preview.

Keep a 24/7 broadcast running reliably

Test the full chain, not just the playlist

Before launch, run a test with the actual encoder, source files, audio level, network, and planned settings. Check that the stream reaches YouTube, that playback is continuous, and that the audio is intelligible on a viewer device. Test the recovery procedure too: know who can restart the encoder, reconnect the stream, or replace a failed source file.

Monitor health and plan for failure

Watch stream health in Live Control Room and arrange a person or monitoring routine to notice a stopped or degraded feed. For a do-it-yourself setup, prudent resilience measures include dependable power, a backup internet path, a spare or backup encoder plan, and a documented restart procedure. These are operational precautions, not a YouTube guarantee or a prescribed YouTube failover design. YouTube’s encoder setup and health tools do not guarantee uninterrupted availability.

Set realistic expectations about rewind and replay

YouTube can automatically archive streams shorter than 12 hours, but if a stream exceeds 12 hours it may not be captured at all. YouTube also says DVR may be limited or unavailable for very long streams, including streams over 12 hours. If replays or preservation matter, record a local copy and consider planned shorter live sessions rather than relying on one unbroken full-day broadcast. Shorter sessions do not guarantee replay processing, so retain the local recording until the replay is confirmed.

Protect monetization eligibility as well as copyright clearance

Copyright permission and YouTube Partner Program eligibility are separate questions. YouTube’s reused-content rules assess whether a creator adds meaningful original value; permission to use someone else’s music does not by itself make a channel eligible for monetization. YouTube’s 2025 update renamed “repetitious content” to “inauthentic content” and clarified that repetitive or mass-produced content is ineligible. A channel consisting of simple loops of other people’s devotional recordings can face monetization concerns even if rights are cleared. Original performances, production, commentary, or other genuine editorial contribution may provide a stronger foundation, but do not guarantee approval.

Its availability is currently limited to U.S. creators in YPP, with expansion outside the U.S. pending, and track terms vary.
