A 24/7 YouTube stream can use anything from about 0.72 GB to 98.4 GB per day, depending on the playback resolution. For a common 480p example, Android Authority measured 480–660 MB per hour; that works out to an estimated 11.52–15.84 GB per day or 345.6–475.2 GB over 30 days. These are ballpark calculations, not guaranteed amounts: YouTube playback uses variable data rates, and no published figure here measures this exact Indian music stream.

Estimated data use at each YouTube resolution

The table uses Android Authority’s measured hourly YouTube playback ranges. Daily and monthly values are calculated from those measurements, assuming uninterrupted viewing for 24 hours a day and 30 days a month. MB and GB use decimal conversions.

YouTube resolution Measured data per hour Estimated per 24 hours Estimated per 30 days
144p 30–90 MB 0.72–2.16 GB 21.6–64.8 GB
240p 180–250 MB 4.32–6 GB 129.6–180 GB
360p 300–450 MB 7.2–10.8 GB 216–324 GB
480p 480–660 MB 11.52–15.84 GB 345.6–475.2 GB
720p 1.2–2.7 GB 28.8–64.8 GB 864–1,944 GB
1080p 2.5–4.1 GB 60–98.4 GB 1,800–2,952 GB

Android Authority describes the hourly numbers as its own measurements. Its test locked a selected video to resolutions for three minutes; it notes variable bitrate and that pre-buffering can load more data than the portion watched. The figures are useful for budgeting, not a promise for every video or device. Android Authority’s YouTube data-use measurements.

Why the actual amount can differ

Resolution is the biggest practical lever

Higher resolutions generally require more data. For example, the measured 480p range calculates to hundreds of gigabytes over a 30-day month, while 144p calculates to tens of gigabytes. Choose the quality actually selected in the YouTube app or player; Auto does not mean one fixed resolution.

Music does not necessarily mean audio-only

A music livestream still has a video track, even when the image is static, so the visual stream can continue to use data. The table applies to video playback at the listed resolutions. It does not establish a reliable figure for a genuinely audio-only setup.

Live playback is a reasonable comparison, not an exact match

Android Authority reports that its tested live-stream data use was about the same as a comparably long YouTube video at the same resolution and frame rate. That supports using the table as a ballpark for a live stream, but not as a measurement of a particular Indian music channel.

What Indian carrier estimates tell you

Jio gives broad video-streaming estimates of up to 0.3 GB/hour for low quality, 0.7 GB/hour for medium, 1 GB/hour for high, 3 GB/hour for HD and 7 GB/hour for Ultra HD. These are carrier estimates, not a YouTube resolution-by-resolution chart: Jio says actual consumption can vary by service. Jio’s video-resolution data guidance.

How to reduce a viewer’s data use

  1. Select a lower playback resolution. In YouTube, open the video’s settings and choose a specific quality rather than relying on Auto when you need a more predictable setting. Android Authority also describes Data Saver as an option to reduce use; the available controls can vary by device and app version.
  2. Check the setting during playback. Confirm the player is using the resolution you intended; network conditions and automatic quality selection can change playback quality.
  3. Budget for the full viewing period. Multiply the hourly range by the hours watched. For an uninterrupted month, use 24 hours × 30 days and compare the resulting range with your data allowance.

Do not treat YouTube upload bitrates as viewer data rates

YouTube’s official encoding page gives recommended bitrates for uploading video, not a fixed table of consumer playback consumption. It also says audio playback bitrate is not related to video resolution. The upload recommendations therefore should not be substituted for the measured viewing ranges above.
