To play a finished video as a YouTube Live event, use an encoder-based setup or a service that explicitly supports prerecorded streaming. If you only need to show your phone screen in real time, YouTube’s native Screencast option may fit.
Choose the right way to go live
First decide whether viewers need to see your Android screen as you use it, or watch a finished video presented as a live event. Those are different workflows:
- Show your phone screen: YouTube’s mobile app documents a Screencast option. The phone screen is the source; this is not documented as direct prerecorded-file ingestion.
- Play a finished video as a live event: Use a software or hardware encoder connected to YouTube, or investigate a third-party service that expressly supports prerecorded streaming from Android.
YouTube describes mobile streaming as “Good for vlogging and quick updates from your phone or tablet.” See YouTube’s mobile live-streaming instructions.
Check whether your channel can stream from Android
YouTube’s mobile eligibility requirements, as stated on its help page accessed in 2026, include all of the following:

- A verified channel.
- No live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days.
- Live streaming enabled on the channel.
- Android 8.0 or newer.
First-time activation can take up to 24 hours. These are requirements for mobile live streaming, not a guarantee that every channel or device can use every third-party prerecorded-video feature. Check YouTube’s current eligibility and mobile setup guidance before planning an event.
Start a native YouTube mobile stream or screen cast
- Open the YouTube app on your Android phone and sign in to the channel that will host the stream.
- Tap Create, then Live.
- Edit the stream details. YouTube’s mobile flow supports scheduling and includes a Screencast option.
- If you want to share the phone screen, choose Screencast and review the stream setup. The phone screen—not a selected video file—is the documented source.
- When ready, tap Go live. Monitor the stream and end it from the app when finished.
Trying to play a video in another app while screen casting is a different, device- and app-dependent approach. Do not assume the other app’s picture or audio will be captured correctly. If you test it, rehearse privately first and verify the captured image, sound, orientation, and playback on another device.

Use an encoder for a prerecorded video
YouTube documents encoders as a route for advanced production and screen sharing. In an encoder workflow, create or schedule an event in YouTube Live Control Room, connect a software or hardware encoder, and send the video feed from that encoder to YouTube. YouTube’s general instructions do not prescribe one universal encoder configuration for every Android video, so use settings supported by both your encoder and the source file rather than assuming a particular bitrate or resolution.
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule the event.
- Set the event’s title, visibility, and other details. Keep it private or unlisted while rehearsing if you do not want a public test.
- Connect your encoder using the stream details provided in Live Control Room. Keep the stream key private; anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to your event.
- Load or play the prerecorded video through the encoder workflow you have chosen, then wait for YouTube’s preview.
- Check picture, audio, orientation, event visibility, and whether the event can be watched on a phone. Start the event only after the preview is correct, and monitor it while it runs.
YouTube recommends preparing ahead of time and checking the preview and audio/video. Its setup guidance is at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder and Streaming tips. Google’s Android Mobile Live intent documentation describes launching YouTube’s setup for a camera broadcast; it does not establish a native prerecorded-file broadcast feature: Initiating YouTube Live Streams on Android Devices.

Consider a phone-based third-party service carefully
GoLiveIndia advertises uploading a prerecorded video or using a video URL for a YouTube live broadcast through its mobile app. That is the vendor’s claim, not a workflow verified or endorsed by YouTube’s documentation. Before relying on it, confirm that the app is currently available to you, check its pricing and technical limits, and understand what permissions and privacy access it requires. For Indian creators, confirm availability and payment terms directly with the service. Do not hand over a YouTube password or stream key unless you understand why it is needed and how the service protects it.

Rights, policy, and rehearsal checks
Only broadcast video and audio that you own or are authorized to use. A live presentation does not make copyrighted music, film footage, or other protected material safe to stream. YouTube requires live content to follow its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service, and it may restrict a creator’s ability to live stream. Review YouTube’s live-streaming rules and eligibility guidance.
- Confirm that the video and every audio track are cleared for live broadcast.
- Rehearse with the same phone, apps, network, orientation, and encoder or service planned for the event.
- Check that viewers can hear the audio and see the intended image, including from a mobile device.
- Verify visibility settings and event timing before sharing the link.
- Keep stream keys private, and replace a key if you believe it has been exposed.
Troubleshoot common problems
The YouTube app does not offer Live
Check subscriber count, channel verification, live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, Android version, and whether live streaming is enabled. If you have just enabled it, activation may take up to 24 hours.

The video file is not available as a mobile stream source
This is expected in YouTube’s documented Android flow: it describes mobile streaming and screen casting, not selecting a prerecorded file for direct broadcast. Use an encoder workflow or a third-party app whose current feature list explicitly covers prerecorded streaming.
A screen-cast test has missing sound or the wrong picture
Screen casting captures the phone screen, and results can depend on the source app and device. Rehearse privately, check app capture behavior and audio, and use an encoder-based workflow if the result is unreliable.
The encoder preview is blank or has no sound
Check that the encoder is connected to the correct event and stream key, that the video is actually playing into the encoder, and that the intended audio source is enabled. Wait for the YouTube preview and correct the feed before going live.
The channel or stream is restricted
Review YouTube’s notices and live-streaming policy guidance. Do not try to bypass a restriction by switching to another channel or tool; resolve the eligibility or policy issue with YouTube first.
