Create or schedule the event in YouTube Studio, test that your voice is clear and the stream is stable, and use only audio you have the rights to stream. For a live session you lead in real time, use YouTube’s webcam, encoder, or mobile route below.
1. Confirm eligibility and choose how to stream
YouTube says live streamers must be at least 16 and their channel must be verified, with no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. Mobile streaming has additional eligibility and device requirements; YouTube’s mobile guidance lists at least 50 subscribers, verification, and no recent restriction. Check YouTube’s current eligibility guidance before relying on mobile access, since requirements can change.

If your computer’s camera and microphone are adequate, webcam streaming is a practical place to start. Choose an encoder if you want to use external equipment or prepared visuals. YouTube’s guidance says expensive equipment is not necessary to begin; choose gear to solve a specific need rather than treating it as a prerequisite.
2. Create or schedule the YouTube event
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create, then Go Live.
- Choose the webcam or streaming-software route that matches your setup. To schedule an encoder event, open the Manage tab and create or schedule a stream.
- Set the event’s title, description, and visibility. Choose public, private, or unlisted intentionally: a scheduled event can provide a shareable watch page and may let viewers set reminders. Visibility defaults can vary by creator age.
- For a test, consider private or unlisted visibility. Check the selected setting before you share the event link.
YouTube does not prescribe a meditation-specific session length, camera framing, or lighting setup. Decide those for your audience and format; they are production choices, not YouTube rules.

3. Connect an encoder, if you are using one
- In Live Control Room, create or open the event and locate its stream URL and stream key. If your encoder offers direct YouTube integration, follow its YouTube connection flow instead.
- Otherwise, copy the URL into the encoder’s server field and the key into its stream-key field. Treat the key like a password: it authorizes and directs the encoder’s feed. Do not share it publicly.
- Start sending the encoder signal, then wait for it to appear in the Live Control Room preview. Check that the picture and sound are present before starting the event on YouTube, as applicable to the chosen workflow.
- When the session is over, end the stream in Live Control Room and stop sending content from the encoder.
YouTube’s encoder guidance says streams shorter than 12 hours are automatically archived. If you need an archive, check that the event appears in your channel after it ends.
4. Test the voice, picture, and connection
Check upload capacity
Test the connection you will use for the broadcast. Upload speed matters for sending the stream; a download-speed result does not establish that upload capacity is sufficient. YouTube recommends leaving 20% headroom above the stream bitrate. If you are configuring primary and backup encoders, its guidance specifies capacity for the primary bitrate plus the backup bitrate plus 20%.

Check the actual viewer experience
- Start an advance test and inspect the Live Control Room preview for picture and sound.
- Open the watch page from another device, including a phone, to verify viewers can reach the event.
- Listen for clear, intelligible speech. As a practical production check—not a YouTube specification—make sure any background music does not mask your guidance, and reduce room noise where possible.
- Monitor audio and video during the session so you can catch a muted microphone, dropped connection, or other change while live.
For encoder events, YouTube advises setting up at least two hours in advance and starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before the planned start. That gives you time to see the incoming signal and fix problems before viewers arrive.
5. Use music and meditation audio you can stream
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects a match, it may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn you; continued use can lead to temporary interruption or termination. A license by itself may not prevent an interruption if the rights holder has not added your channel to its Content ID allowlist.

The safer options are original audio or music for which you have confirmed both the necessary streaming rights and any required allowlisting. Do not assume that music is safe merely because it is available online, included with an app, or licensed for a different use.
6. Troubleshoot common setup problems
