To run a continuous exam-preparation stream on YouTube, verify that your channel is eligible, choose a webcam or encoder-based setup, and test the entire broadcast path before you rely on it. For an all-day prerecorded schedule, an encoder workflow gives you more control over the layout and sources; plan for an operator to monitor the stream and keep a local recording if you need an archive. YouTube warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all.
How do you set up a 24/7 exam-preparation stream on YouTube in India?
YouTube’s published requirements and the practical choices for keeping a channel on air are different things. YouTube says a channel must be verified, must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and must be operated by someone at least 16 years old. YouTube supports mobile, webcam, encoder and console streaming. For a persistent study programme with planned media, a repeatable screen layout or multiple sources, an encoder-based production is usually the more suitable workflow—not a guarantee of greater reliability.
The YouTube Help guidance cited here was accessed on October 3, 2026. It does not establish a uniform internet or power situation across India, a hardware setup suitable for every location, or India-specific legal obligations for this exact type of broadcast. Assess your own connection, power and operating arrangements.
Choose a production setup
| Setup | What it suits | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Computer and webcam | A teacher presenting directly to camera with a selected microphone. | Simpler to arrange, but offers less source control for a planned, persistent study layout. |
| Encoder-based | A scheduled programme, a persistent layout, or a mix of camera, microphone, overlays and screen content. | Requires more setup and testing. Reliability still depends on the connection, configuration, monitoring and recovery plan. |
YouTube describes both computer-and-webcam streaming and encoder workflows in its Help guidance, including adding a server URL and stream key for an encoder. A laptop with a webcam can be used; buying a dedicated computer is not a requirement for every creator. If you use an encoder, confirm that it can handle the exact sources and any scheduled or looping media your programme needs.

Plan the study programme before going live
Make the stream useful to students as well as technically continuous. These are production recommendations, not YouTube requirements:
- Put a timetable and the current subject or topic somewhere viewers can read at a glance.
- Mark breaks and transitions so a student joining mid-session can tell what is happening.
- Decide in advance whether the programme is a teacher-led presentation, a sequence of recorded lessons, or a mix. Use an encoder for multiple inputs or a more controlled layout.
- Set a chat moderation plan, including who will monitor messages and how questions will be handled while the programme continues.
- Assign someone to supervise the stream and respond to interruptions. YouTube advises creators to monitor stream quality; it does not promise that a 24/7 broadcast will operate without supervision.
Set a bitrate your upload connection can sustain
Use YouTube’s published encoder recommendations as a starting point, not as a promise that your local connection can sustain them. The figures below are YouTube’s H.264 recommendations, not independent performance-test results.
| Output | YouTube-listed minimum bitrate | YouTube-listed recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 480p at 30 fps | 0.4 Mbps | 4 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
YouTube Help says, “The total bitrate you’re streaming cannot exceed the amount of upload bandwidth available.” Its guidance recommends leaving 20% bandwidth headroom above the total stream bitrate. Check upload capacity rather than relying on download speed, include the total bitrate in your planning, and choose an output that your connection can sustain. A lower, stable resolution is a better starting point than selecting a higher one your upload cannot support.

For the encoder, YouTube recommends H.264, constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval and RTMPS. Match the selected resolution and frame rate to your production, then test the actual connection and stream. YouTube automatically transcodes streams for playback formats, but that does not remove the need to send a stable feed from your encoder.
Create the stream and connect your encoder
- Check eligibility: Verify the channel and confirm it has no live-streaming restriction from the previous 90 days. The person operating the channel must be at least 16.
- Open YouTube Live Control Room: Create the live stream there, then use YouTube’s encoder workflow to obtain the server URL and stream key.
- Keep the key private: Enter the stream key in your encoder; do not share or publish it. Treat it as a credential that allows an encoder to send a feed to your channel.
- Configure the encoder: Set the video codec, output resolution, frame rate, bitrate, CBR, two-second keyframe interval and RTMPS connection. Select media and sources that you have the right to broadcast.
- Preview before starting: Check the picture, sound, layout and stream health in YouTube Live Control Room before making the programme available to viewers.
- Confirm playback independently: Watch the feed on another device and check that the audio and video remain usable. Test local recording and the steps you would take if the connection or encoder fails.
YouTube’s Help guidance recommends testing a stream and checking the preview, accessibility, audio/video quality and failover before relying on the setup. A successful preview is not a substitute for monitoring an all-day broadcast.

- Picture and sound: Check legibility of topic labels, microphone levels, media playback and transitions, including on a second device.
- Stream health: Watch YouTube’s preview and health indicators during the test rather than checking only that the encoder says it is connected.
- Local copy: If you need to preserve the programme, make and verify a local recording.
- Recovery: Decide who will notice a dropped feed and how they will reconnect the encoder or resume the programme. Test the recovery steps rather than assuming the service will restart by itself.
- Operations: Assess local power and network arrangements and identify who is responsible for the stream during each part of the day.
These checks do not establish that any particular Indian internet provider, power arrangement or computer will be reliable for every location. A setup that works during a short test can still need attention during a longer broadcast.

Understand the 12-hour replay and DVR caveat
A continuous 24-hour broadcast has a significant archive limitation. YouTube Help states: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” YouTube’s DVR guidance separately warns that rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. Do not promise viewers that YouTube will preserve a complete 24-hour replay or let them rewind through the entire programme.
If students need a replay, retain a local recording and check that it has saved correctly. You can organize programming into separate sessions if that suits the schedule, but that does not guarantee archive behavior for every session.

Use material you have the right to broadcast
Review everything viewers can hear or see: music, video clips, slides, scans, illustrations and third-party teaching materials. Prefer original study content or content for which you have appropriate rights. A resource being educational, available online or useful for exam preparation does not by itself establish that you can include it in a live broadcast.
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. If copyrighted material remains in the broadcast, YouTube may interrupt or terminate the stream. YouTube also says that having a license may not prevent an interruption unless the rights holder has added the channel to an allowlist. Check rights with the relevant owner and do not rely on a license alone to keep a matched stream uninterrupted.
YouTube’s live-stream terms require creators to have the necessary rights and comply with laws and regulations applicable in the territory of the stream. The available platform guidance does not establish a definitive India-specific legal conclusion for this production. If your use raises a legal question, get advice appropriate to the material and circumstances.

Or let it run in the cloud
If your programme is prerecorded study content rather than a live camera presentation, StreamNeo is a cloud option for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded material from the cloud; it does not broadcast from a camera and streams to YouTube only.
Nothing has to stay on at home, so the stream can continue with your computer off. Every slot supports the video as uploaded, up to 4K at 60 fps, at one flat price per slot rather than quality tiers; it includes one always-on stream, 10 GB of storage per slot pooled across active slots, playlists, 24/7 looping, automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and StreamNeo team support. The first day is free with no card, once per account. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month; the same product is available with daily, weekly, six-month and yearly billing. UPI and cards are available in India, and card checkout is available worldwide.
StreamNeo can reduce the need to keep a home computer running, but it does not remove the need to choose rights-cleared material or consider YouTube’s archive and DVR limits. To try it, start the free first day with no card.
