To stream podcast episodes on YouTube around the clock, create a YouTube Live stream, send it an encoder feed using your stream URL and key, and configure the encoder or service to play your prerecorded episodes in sequence and loop them. YouTube provides the live-stream connection; playlist looping and recovery depend on the tool you choose. You can run the setup yourself on a computer, or use a cloud service such as StreamNeo so your computer does not have to stay on.

Before you start: check eligibility and rights

Confirm your channel can go live

YouTube requires a verified channel, no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and a streamer who is at least 16 years old. Review YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility requirements before configuring the broadcast.

Clear every part of each episode for YouTube

Make sure you have the rights to distribute the complete recording on YouTube, including music, clips, guest contributions, artwork, and inserted material. Permission to publish an episode in a podcast feed does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast it on YouTube. YouTube’s live-streaming terms require the provider to have the necessary rights for exploitation on Google services worldwide, including applicable music rights. Keep permission records and note any territory restrictions.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. If it detects material, it may replace the stream with a placeholder, warn you, interrupt the broadcast, or terminate it. A license may not prevent an interruption: YouTube says the rights owner may also need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

Choose how to keep the episode loop running

Do it yourself with an encoder

A computer-based encoder can send a continuous feed to YouTube while its source or playlist advances through episode files and repeats them. This approach gives you control over the setup, but the computer, encoder, and internet connection must remain available. Confirm that your chosen encoder actually supports prerecorded-file playlists, looping, and reconnection after an interruption; YouTube’s connection instructions do not prescribe a playlist-looping recipe.

Use a cloud service

A cloud service can play uploaded recordings without requiring your home computer to stay on. Check its current documentation for playlist handling, looping, recovery after a dropped connection, supported quality and formats, monitoring, storage, and commercial terms. These capabilities are service-specific, not guaranteed by YouTube.

Set up the YouTube Live stream

  1. In YouTube Studio, open the live-stream creation flow and create or schedule a stream. YouTube’s encoder setup guide explains the encoder workflow and Live Control Room.

  2. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for the event into your encoder’s YouTube destination settings. Treat the key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your stream. Do not publish it or share it with people who should not control the broadcast. See YouTube’s encoder instructions.

  3. Select the episode files or playlist in the encoder and set it to advance through the episodes, then repeat the sequence if you want an uninterrupted loop. Check the encoder’s own instructions for the exact controls; names and behavior vary by product.

  4. Start sending the feed and wait for the preview in Live Control Room. Check that the right episode is playing, the audio is audible and balanced, and the picture is visible before using the control to go live. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend testing the setup and monitoring the broadcast.

  5. Open the watch page on another device or browser to confirm viewers can access it. Keep an eye on the encoder and stream health while the broadcast runs. Monitoring is an operational step for an unattended loop; it does not mean YouTube provides around-the-clock supervision.

Choose stable video and audio settings

Use a profile supported by both your encoder and YouTube, and make sure your available upload bandwidth can sustain it. Do not choose the highest resolution simply because the source files support it: a stable feed matters more than a setting your connection cannot maintain.

Setting YouTube guidance What to check
Ingest protocol RTMP/RTMPS is supported; YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted transport. Use RTMPS when the encoder supports it. See YouTube’s streaming settings.
Video codec H.264, H.265, or AV1. Choose a codec supported by the encoder and your chosen profile. See YouTube’s streaming settings.
Audio codec AAC or MP3. Listen to a representative episode in the preview and check levels before going live. See YouTube’s streaming settings.
Bitrate mode Constant bitrate (CBR). Set a bitrate the upload connection can sustain, with spare capacity rather than running at its limit. See YouTube’s streaming settings and streaming tips.
Keyframe interval Two seconds recommended; do not exceed four seconds. Set this in the encoder’s video settings. See YouTube’s streaming settings.

When HLS may be relevant

YouTube documents HLS ingestion as another option. Its requirements include 1–4 second segments, TS segment format, a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments, and HTTPS POST/PUT. YouTube notes that HLS has higher latency than RTMP because it sends video in segments. For a prerecorded podcast loop, the more practical priorities are dependable playback, playlist behavior, recovery, audio quality, monitoring, and your archive plan. See YouTube’s HLS ingestion settings.

Plan for interruptions and replay limits

Keep a local copy of the episodes

Do not rely on YouTube to preserve a complete replay of a continuous broadcast. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. It recommends recording a local archive as a backup. If a YouTube-generated replay matters, use shorter live sessions and retain your own recordings. See YouTube’s archive live streams guidance.

Know what happens if copyright is detected

A stream can be interrupted or terminated if YouTube detects third-party content; it can also be terminated following a copyright or Community Guidelines strike. If you have permission but a stream is still interrupted, check whether the rights owner must add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. See YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams.

Troubleshoot common problems

  • No preview appears: Confirm the encoder is sending to the correct stream URL and that you copied the matching stream key. Check that the encoder is running and that the key has not been changed in YouTube Studio.

  • The stream starts but stops or becomes unstable: Check upload capacity and encoder health. Reduce the output profile or bitrate if the connection cannot sustain it, leave bandwidth headroom, and test with a representative episode before relying on the loop. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend testing and checking stream health.

  • The video runs but viewers cannot hear it: Check the encoder’s audio source, selected audio codec, and output meters; then verify the sound in Live Control Room preview before going live.

  • The same episode repeats or the playlist ends: Check the playlist order and loop or repeat setting in the encoder or service. Looping is not a YouTube Studio guarantee.

  • YouTube interrupts the stream over a licensed track: Confirm the permission covers YouTube live distribution and ask the rights owner whether your channel must be added to its Content ID allowlist.
