That form-factor choice is the clearest difference. Price depends on where you live, and the available figures come from different markets; there is no verified common user-rating score to declare a ratings winner.
Price: compare within your own market
The published prices below are not a like-for-like local comparison: they refer to different countries, dates, and, in one case, a launch price. Check official local pricing for the same storage tier and account for taxes, warranty, carrier offers, and trade-ins.
| Phone and market | Published price and configuration | What the figure represents |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone 18 Pro Max — United States | $1,299 starting price | Apple’s U.S. launch price; Apple announced 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB storage tiers. Availability began September 18, 2026. Apple Newsroom |
| vivo X Fold5 — Philippines | ₱109,999; 16GB RAM/512GB storage | Price and configuration displayed on vivo Philippines’ product page. vivo Philippines |
| vivo X Fold5 — India | ₹149,999; 16GB RAM/512GB storage | India launch price reported in an Android Central review published July 16, 2025; it is not a current quote for every seller. Android Central |
Because these prices are from separate markets, converting them into one currency would not establish which phone is cheaper to buy where you are. Compare local prices for matched storage and include the value of local warranty and support.
Specs and the practical differences

| Design and screens | Conventional phone with a 6.9-inch OLED display and 120Hz ProMotion. Apple specifications | Book-style foldable with an 8.03-inch inner AMOLED screen and a 6.53-inch cover AMOLED screen, both listed at 120Hz. vivo Global; vivo Philippines |
| Weight and thickness | 249g; 163.4 × 78.0 × 8.75mm. Apple specifications | 217g; 9.2mm folded and 4.3mm unfolded, according to vivo Global. vivo Global |
| Processor and software | Apple A20 Pro; iOS 27 at launch. Apple Newsroom | Snapdragon 8 Gen 3; Android 15 with Funtouch OS 15 on vivo Philippines’ listing. Software details may vary by market. vivo Global; vivo Philippines |
| Rear cameras | 48MP Fusion main camera with variable aperture, per Apple. Apple Newsroom | Three listed 50MP rear cameras: main, telephoto, and ultrawide. vivo Global |
| Battery and charging | Apple claims up to 45 hours of video playback for the eSIM-only Pro Max model and up to 30 hours under its new usage-model claim. These are different manufacturer measures, not a standardized comparison with vivo. Apple Newsroom | 6000mAh equivalent battery, 80W wired charging, and 40W wireless charging, according to vivo. These specifications alone do not establish real-world battery life. vivo Global |
| Ingress protection | IP68, rated for up to 6 meters for 30 minutes under IEC 60529. Apple specifications | vivo lists IP5X, IPX8, and IPX9 ratings. The codes use different test conditions; neither a shared test nor a simple overall waterproof ranking follows from the labels. vivo Global; vivo Philippines |
Which form factor fits your use?
Choose the iPhone’s conventional design if you want one screen and a familiar phone shape. Choose the X Fold5 if opening a larger screen for reading, multitasking, or viewing content is more important than using a single-panel phone. Its cover screen remains available when the device is folded; the inner display is the main reason to choose a book-style foldable.

How to interpret the camera and battery figures
The listed camera resolutions describe hardware, not comparative photo quality. A 50MP camera does not automatically outperform a 48MP one; sensor, optics, processing, and shooting conditions matter. The source material does not provide a controlled, same-scene camera comparison between these models.
Likewise, battery capacity in mAh, video-playback hours, and a usage-model estimate are different measures. Apple’s playback claim and vivo’s capacity and charging specifications cannot establish which phone lasts longer in the same person’s use.

Ratings: no verified common user score
The available sources do not establish user ratings for both exact models on one consistent, verified scale. Their review scores or opinions should not be combined into a head-to-head star rating.
As a clearly attributed reviewer opinion, Android Central described the X Fold5 in its July 16, 2025 review as “one of the best foldables you can buy in 2025,” while qualifying that judgment by the markets where vivo sells it. That is an editorial assessment, not a user-rating statistic. Read the Android Central review. Tom’s Guide also published an iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max review on September 20, 2026, but a separate publication’s review does not create a common rating scale with Android Central’s review. Which should you choose?
- Choose iPhone 18 Pro Max if you prefer a conventional flagship, Apple’s iOS ecosystem, or want a single-screen phone rather than a foldable.
- Choose vivo X Fold5 if its large inner display is central to how you use a phone and you prefer Android. Check local availability, software configuration, warranty, and service before buying.
- Compare local prices first if value is decisive. The published U.S., Philippines, and India figures are not a same-market comparison.
- Look for matched independent tests if camera quality or battery endurance is your deciding factor; the manufacturer specifications cited here do not settle either comparison.
