YouTube Studio schedules the live event viewers see; an encoder or playback system sends the podcast episodes to YouTube. For a continuous show, schedule one ongoing broadcast and automate episode playback in the feed. If you want separate episode watch pages and archives, schedule a separate broadcast for each episode. YouTube does not document a built-in Studio playlist that automatically rotates prerecorded episodes forever.
Choose how episodes should appear to viewers
YouTube distinguishes the scheduled event from the incoming video feed. The official YouTube Live Streaming API documentation describes a broadcast as an event viewers can watch, while a stream is the feed delivered to YouTube. One stream configuration can be reused for multiple broadcasts when the encoder setup is the same. YouTube Live Streaming API documentation (last updated September 14, 2026) describes both recurring broadcasts using a reusable stream and a 24/7 feed from which separate broadcasts can be started.
| Pattern | Viewer experience | Best fit | Important trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| One continuous broadcast | One persistent live page; episodes play in sequence within the same feed. | A radio-style podcast channel where continuity matters more than separate episode pages. | Do not assume each episode within the uninterrupted stream gets its own YouTube video page or archive. |
| Separate scheduled broadcasts | Each episode has its own scheduled event and viewer-facing page. | A podcast where episode-specific titles, reminders, and distinct live pages matter. | You must create and start each event, though the same stream configuration may be reusable when encoder settings match. |
YouTube’s scheduled event can appear as upcoming in subscriber feeds, where viewers may select “Notify me.” If you use one continuous event, that reminder is for the event, not a series of separately scheduled episode premieres. See YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings.
Schedule and run a continuous podcast stream
- Choose the event pattern. Decide whether one live page should stay open across episodes or whether each episode needs its own broadcast. For a continuous page, create one broadcast with a clear title and description that explain the programming is an ongoing feed.
- Schedule the event in Studio. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room, choose Manage, then Schedule Stream. Set the event details and choose public, private, or unlisted visibility. Confirm the scheduled date and time, thumbnail, title, and description before sharing the event page. YouTube’s exact interface labels can change, so check the current Live Control Room if a label differs.
- Connect an encoder. In the event or Live Control Room settings, obtain the YouTube Live server URL and stream key. Enter them in your encoder. The server URL routes the feed; the stream key identifies the stream to YouTube. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or include it in a screenshot. If it is exposed, an owner or manager can reset it in YouTube Studio and then replace it in the encoder. See YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings.
- Set up episode playback. Load the prerecorded episodes into an encoder or compatible playback-automation system and arrange them in the intended order. Add transitions, interstitials, or silence only if they are part of the experience you want viewers to hear. Studio schedules the broadcast, but YouTube’s cited documentation does not specify an episode playlist feature that automatically rotates files. Verify any playback tool’s playlist, scheduling, and unattended-operation functions before relying on it.
- Test the full path. Before the announced start, send a test feed and check the Live Control Room preview, audio, video, event title and visibility, and captions if used. Confirm that playback advances from one episode to the next as expected. When ready, start the encoder and follow Studio’s start flow or use the configured auto-start behavior.
- Choose start and stop behavior deliberately. YouTube provides auto-start and auto-stop settings that let encoder activity start or stop a broadcast. The API reference describes auto-start when streaming begins and auto-stop around one minute after streaming ends. For an intentionally continuous feed, ensure a brief gap between files does not cause your encoder to stop sending the feed or end the broadcast. Check the current event settings before going live. See YouTube Live Streaming API: liveBroadcasts.
- Plan for the recording. YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not treat that as a promise that each episode inside one uninterrupted stream will become a separate archive. If individual episode recordings and pages are essential, use separate broadcasts or publish the episodes as separate videos. See YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
Schedule separate broadcasts while reusing the feed
For episode-level pages, create a separate scheduled broadcast for each episode in Studio, with episode-specific title, description, time, and visibility. You can reuse the stream configuration when the encoder settings are the same; the incoming feed still needs to carry the correct episode at the correct time. YouTube’s API also documents a pattern in which a 24/7 feed remains live while separate broadcasts are started from that incoming stream. This is a platform capability, not an automatic episode scheduler: you still need to create or automate the broadcasts and control which episode is playing.

Get the desired level via monitoring volume control when gaming recording. Smooth mic gain knob on the PC microphone gaming has some resistance to the point, easily for audio attenuation or boost presence to less post-production audio. (Only available for USB connection)
Before adopting that pattern, decide how you will coordinate the episode queue and event start times. A scheduled broadcast with the wrong episode in the feed can show the wrong content despite having correct event metadata. Test the handoff using an unlisted event before announcing a recurring schedule. For API-driven setups, consult the YouTube Live Streaming API overview for broadcast scheduling and stream association; API access and implementation require additional setup beyond Studio scheduling.
Keep the stream compliant and protect the channel
- Use audio, music, artwork, and recordings you own or are authorized to stream. A live feed is still subject to YouTube’s copyright rules and enforcement.
- Keep the stream key private. If it is compromised, reset it and update the encoder before resuming.
- Check the event’s visibility and public schedule carefully. A private or unlisted event will not behave like a public scheduled show in subscriber discovery.
- Do not promise viewers that every episode will have a distinct replay when episodes are carried inside one continuous broadcast.
- Use a test event to catch file-order, metadata, audio, and handoff problems before directing an audience to the live page.
Troubleshoot common scheduling and playback problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| The scheduled page exists, but no video appears. | The encoder has not connected, or the server URL or stream key is incorrect. | Confirm the encoder is sending to the matching YouTube server URL and that the correct key is entered. Check the Live Control Room preview before the scheduled start. |
| The event starts with the wrong episode. | The playback queue and broadcast schedule are out of sync. | Verify the playlist order and episode start time; run a test handoff before the event. |
| The event stops between episodes. | The encoder stopped sending during a gap, or auto-stop ended the broadcast. | Keep the feed active across transitions and review the event’s auto-stop setting. YouTube documents auto-stop around one minute after streaming ends. |
| Viewers cannot find the scheduled event or receive reminders. | The event visibility or schedule may not match the intended audience experience. | Check public/private/unlisted visibility and event time in Studio. Public scheduled streams may appear as upcoming in subscriber feeds, with a “Notify me” option. |
| The stream key may have been exposed. | A credential was shared or displayed publicly. | Reset the key in Studio and update the encoder with the replacement before streaming again. |
| The archive does not contain separate episode replays. | Episodes aired inside one continuous broadcast rather than separate events. | Use separate scheduled broadcasts or publish episode videos separately when distinct pages and archives are required. YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; it does not promise separate archives for segments within one stream. |
