To loop one worship video in OBS, add it to your scene as a Media Source, choose the local file, and enable Loop in the source properties. For a playlist of clips, use VLC Video and enable Loop Playlist. Test the full playback and audio in YouTube Live Control Room before the service; looping a file does not grant permission to stream its music or visuals.
Choose the right OBS source

Loop one worship video with Media Source
- Prepare the file. Keep the video on the computer running OBS and open the scene where it should appear.
- Add the source. In the OBS Sources panel, select + and choose Media Source. Create a new source or select an existing one.
- Select the video and set playback. Browse to the local video file and enable Loop. This repeats the file after it reaches the end; Loop is off by default.
- Choose what happens when the scene changes. Restart playback when source becomes active is a separate option and is on by default. Leave it on if the video should start at the beginning whenever that source becomes active. Turn it off if playback should continue from its current position when you switch away and back.
- Fit and inspect the source. Position and resize it in the preview. Check the Sources list and make sure another visible source is not covering the video.
Loop a playlist of worship clips
- Install VLC before setting up the source. The VLC Video source is available only when VLC is installed, and its bitness must match OBS: 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
- In OBS, open the target scene, select + in Sources, and choose VLC Video.
- Add the worship clips to the source’s playlist in the order you want them played. Enable Loop Playlist; it is on by default.
- Review the visibility behavior. VLC Video is documented to stop when it is not visible and restart when it becomes visible. If switching scenes matters to the service, test that transition and confirm the resulting playback is what you intend.
- Position the source in the preview and check that it is not obscured by another visible source.
Use Media Source for a single file without playlist management. Choose VLC Video when you need to sequence multiple files and are comfortable installing VLC. In either case, plan scene changes around the source’s documented visibility or activation behavior.
Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube, open Live Control Room and set up the stream using YouTube’s encoder workflow. Follow the current prompts for the stream, encoder, and stream key; labels can vary as the software changes. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions describe the platform-side process.
- Copy the stream key into OBS’s YouTube/streaming connection settings and connect the encoder. Treat the key as private: it authorizes an encoder to send a feed to your stream.
- Start with a preview or test rather than relying on an untested setup during the service. Confirm YouTube receives the OBS feed and that the video is visible in Live Control Room.
Set streaming quality and test the complete service path
Choose output resolution, frame rate, encoder settings, and bitrate for the computer and the upload connection you will actually use. YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends these H.264 bitrates for the listed output modes:

YouTube also recommends a 2-second keyframe frequency, says not to exceed 4 seconds, and recommends CBR for RTMP/RTMPS encoder settings. These are platform recommendations, not a guarantee your computer or internet connection can sustain the feed. Consult the full YouTube encoder settings for other resolutions and modes, and leave upload headroom rather than setting a bitrate your connection can barely support.
- Run a test with audio and movement similar to the planned broadcast, as YouTube recommends in its streaming tips.
- Watch the video from beginning to end once, including the end-to-start loop transition. Check for a pause, black frame, unexpected scene restart, or playlist behavior that would interrupt worship.
- Listen for the full audio path: source audio, OBS meters and monitoring as applicable, and the YouTube preview. Verify that audio is neither missing nor unintentionally doubled by another source.
- During the event, monitor both OBS and Live Control Room for playback, audio, connection, and stream-health problems.
Check copyright and licensing before you stream
OBS can play a local video, but that capability does not give you the rights to stream its song recording or visuals. Confirm that permission covers the specific song, recording, video content, intended use, and territory. A worship-song license is not automatically blanket clearance for a commercial music video or every visual included in a clip.

For a US-facing example, CCLI says its US Streaming License covers qualifying worship songs performed live during online worship, while Streaming Plus extends coverage to certain authorized master recordings and multitracks. CCLI says video content in a stream usually requires permission from the copyright owner; it identifies SongSelect Lyric Videos as a stated exception for Streaming Plus license holders during a live stream. Its US license summary also says participants remain responsible for validating covered material, and platform enforcement may still occur. These are US-specific, license-specific terms, not a rule for churches in every country. Check your actual agreement and local requirements.
Troubleshoot common looping and streaming problems
- The video plays once and stops: Open the Media Source properties and enable Loop. For a multi-clip source, check Loop Playlist in VLC Video.
- The clip restarts when returning to its scene: Media Source’s Restart playback when source becomes active setting is on by default. Disable it if you want playback to continue instead of restarting when the source becomes active.
- The playlist stops or starts over on scene changes: VLC Video’s documented visibility behavior is to stop while hidden and restart when visible. Test scene switching, and account for this behavior in the service’s scene plan.
- VLC Video is missing from the source menu: Install VLC. If you use 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC.
- The source appears blank or covered: Check that the selected file is available, that the source is visible, and that it is not underneath another source in the scene.
- YouTube is not receiving the feed: Check OBS’s connection and stream-key configuration against the Live Control Room encoder setup. Keep the stream key private and verify the stream is connected in YouTube before relying on it.
- The stream drops frames or becomes unstable: Compare your bitrate and output mode with YouTube’s recommendations, check the actual upload capacity at the streaming location, reduce output demands if needed, and test again with headroom.
- Audio or video is interrupted during a transition: Recheck source visibility, restart behavior, playlist order, and the full loop transition in a test stream before the live service.
