If your LiveReacting stream keeps stopping on YouTube, first check whether LiveReacting is sending the broadcast directly or whether you enabled Plugin Mode with a local encoder such as OBS. Direct hosting runs on LiveReacting’s servers; Plugin Mode depends on the encoder, computer, and network sending the stream. That distinction determines what to check next.

First identify what is actually stopping

“Stopping” can mean different things: the broadcast disappears from YouTube, the encoder disconnects, the picture freezes or goes black, or only some viewers experience buffering. Identify which symptom you have before changing settings.

  • Only one viewer reports an error: Check that viewer’s device and connection. YouTube notes that a problem affecting one viewer may be local to them.
  • Several viewers on the same network report trouble: Their shared network may be involved.
  • Viewers on different networks report the same issue: Investigate the stream or encoder rather than assuming each viewer has a local problem.

These patterns help narrow the cause; they do not prove it. YouTube’s guidance is to use the scope of viewer reports as one diagnostic clue. YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guide explains the viewer-side and encoder-side checks.

Check whether LiveReacting is using Plugin Mode

LiveReacting Studio supports direct streaming and Plugin Mode. Plugin Mode works with local streaming software, including OBS, Wirecast, StreamYard, and Ecamm. If Plugin Mode is active, the local software and the computer and network running it are part of the broadcast path. LiveReacting’s Studio settings documentation describes the mode options.

When using an adapter, if the device is recognized as USB 2.0, try using the other side with the USB-C port. Simply flip the capture card and reconnect it to be recognized as USB 3.0

If Plugin Mode is active

  1. Check the encoder’s connection and output. Look for disconnect or error messages in the streaming software, and check whether its preview or output is black, frozen, or missing audio.
  2. Check encoder errors and CPU load. YouTube advises updating the encoder and reviewing its errors and CPU usage. If available, inspect a local recording to see whether the audio and video are intact independently of the YouTube stream.
  3. If local output is healthy, test the outbound connection. A good local preview or recording does not establish that the upload connection can reliably carry the stream. YouTube recommends choosing a quality that fits the available connection and testing before going live.
  4. Use YouTube Live Control Room’s stream-health messages. Note the reported issue and when it appears; that can help distinguish an encoder problem from a connection problem.

YouTube’s encoder checks and stream-health advice apply to streams sent through an encoder; they are not LiveReacting-only settings. For an unstable outbound connection, testing the connection is the evidence-based next step. A wired connection may be worth testing if you use a local encoder, but neither LiveReacting nor YouTube’s cited guidance identifies an Ethernet cable as a guaranteed fix.

Review bitrate and keyframe settings

LiveReacting Studio lets you set a custom video bitrate or choose Auto, which LiveReacting describes as selecting a value based on project settings. Its settings page recommends 128k audio unless you know the destination supports a higher input bitrate; it cautions that higher audio quality could cause playback problems. These controls are relevant when you are configuring a Studio project, not a universal remedy for every disconnection. See LiveReacting’s settings guidance.

For encoder-based streams, YouTube recommends a 2-second keyframe frequency and says not to exceed 4 seconds. It also advises choosing a quality level reliable for your internet connection, testing with similar audio and motion before going live, and monitoring stream health during the event. In YouTube’s words: “Make sure you choose a quality that will result in a reliable stream based on your internet connection.” See YouTube’s encoder guidance. These are technical recommendations, not a guarantee that a stream will stay connected.

If YouTube says “reconnecting”

When YouTube reports reconnecting, check the active streaming path rather than repeatedly changing unrelated settings. In Plugin Mode, inspect the encoder’s connection, errors, CPU load, output, and the stream-health messages; if its output is healthy, test the outbound connection. If LiveReacting is hosting the broadcast directly, a closed laptop or browser is not the likely explanation for a stream that was already launched.

If LiveReacting is hosting the stream directly

LiveReacting says its hosted broadcasts run on its servers and can continue after you close the browser or shut down your computer. So if a direct-hosted broadcast ends unexpectedly, do not assume your home Wi-Fi or powered-off laptop caused it. The interruption needs to be investigated in the LiveReacting service or at the YouTube destination.

For audio or video problems in Studio, LiveReacting’s troubleshooting page covers checking microphone and webcam layers and syncing layers that have been removed and re-added. It does not give a universal fix for a YouTube stream ending unexpectedly. If Studio reports that the broadcast ended unexpectedly, contact LiveReacting support and include the time of the interruption and the relevant YouTube or Studio message. LiveReacting’s documentation about hosted broadcasts is available at Going live with LiveReacting Studio.

Check duration only when the ending is repeatable

If the stream ends at nearly the same elapsed time each time, review the scheduled or configured duration. LiveReacting’s help says YouTube has no duration limit, but streams longer than 12 hours will not be archived. That 12-hour note concerns archive availability; it is not a documented automatic cutoff for an unexpected disconnection. See LiveReacting’s help center.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is a continuous YouTube stream of uploaded videos, StreamNeo is an alternative to managing a local encoder: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops the uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. StreamNeo streams the files as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. It is for uploaded videos and YouTube streams, not live camera broadcasts. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start your free first day.
