For prerecorded video on a continuous YouTube channel, Restream is the better-documented fit of the two: its paid looping feature supports up to 10 loops and a maximum 40-hour stream, so a single 24-hour session falls within the stated limit. That is not an unlimited 24/7 service. Dacast documents live encoder ingest and simulcasting to YouTube, but the official materials reviewed do not establish a prerecorded looping workflow. If you want an always-on cloud service for uploaded videos, StreamNeo is another option to consider.
Which service fits a 24/7 prerecorded YouTube channel?
Start with the difference between a 24-hour session and an unattended, indefinitely repeating channel. Restream documents a paid feature for looping prerecorded video, with a maximum of 10 loops and 40 hours per stream; its own example includes streaming for 24 hours. The feature therefore covers a finite 24-hour broadcast, but the stated cap does not establish an indefinite 24/7 service. Restream’s looping instructions describe the feature and its limits.
Dacast’s documentation addresses a different workflow: sending a live feed from an encoder over RTMP or RTMPS and simulcasting an existing live channel to YouTube and other destinations. Those capabilities can suit a live production that needs distribution, but they do not confirm that Dacast can loop uploaded prerecorded video continuously to YouTube. See Dacast’s encoder guidance and Dacast’s simulcasting guidance.
| Question | Restream | Dacast |
|---|---|---|
| Documented source workflow | Loop prerecorded video in a live stream; the feature is paid. Restream Help Center | Live encoder ingest over RTMP/RTMPS and simulcasting of a live channel. Dacast encoder guidance; Dacast simulcasting guidance |
| Prerecorded loop limit established here | Up to 10 loops; maximum 40 hours per stream. A 24-hour stream is an example in Restream’s guidance. Restream Help Center | Not established in the cited Dacast materials for a continuous prerecorded YouTube loop. |
| Best-supported fit | A finite prerecorded YouTube session up to the documented limit. | A live encoder feed distributed to YouTube and other destinations. |
| Comparable price for this use case | Not stated in the available feature documentation; looping is paid and features vary by plan. Restream Help Center; Restream pricing | Not stated in the cited materials for a plan that supports continuous prerecorded looping. Dacast pricing |
For a true unattended channel, compare verified loop scheduling, duration caps, automatic restart or recovery, destination support, and the required plan—not just whether a service can send a live encoder feed to YouTube.

Restream: documented prerecorded looping, with a hard session cap
Restream is the stronger match when your source is an uploaded video and you need to make it appear as a live YouTube broadcast. Its Help Center says the paid looping feature can repeat a video up to 10 times and stream for no more than 40 hours. The stated 24-hour use case fits inside that ceiling; an open-ended daily loop does not follow from it. Check the current plan details before subscribing because Restream says feature availability varies by plan. Review Restream plans alongside its looping feature documentation.
Before committing, confirm that the specific plan and current controls match your intended session, including how the loop count relates to the stream duration. If you need the channel to continue beyond a finite event, ask Restream directly whether its current product supports the required repeated sessions and unattended restart; the documented 40-hour maximum alone is not proof of that capability.

Dacast: live encoder distribution, not a verified prerecorded loop
Dacast’s documented strengths in the materials cited here are receiving a live encoder feed and simulcasting that feed to YouTube and other destinations. This is relevant if you are producing a live program or already have a continuous live feed and need distribution. It is not evidence that you can upload a prerecorded file, configure it to repeat, and leave a continuous YouTube channel running.
If Dacast is your preferred platform, ask its support team specifically whether it offers an official prerecorded-video loop to YouTube, what the maximum session duration is, whether it restarts automatically, and which plan includes it. Until that is confirmed, do not select Dacast on the assumption that its live ingest or simulcasting feature supplies a 24/7 prerecorded workflow.

Set up YouTube before the service choice becomes urgent
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Its guidance says: “To live stream, you must have no live streaming restrictions in the past 90 days and you need to verify your channel.” First-time livestream activation can take up to 24 hours, so activate and test well ahead of launch. YouTube’s live-streaming setup guide explains channel eligibility and setup.
For an encoder workflow, YouTube provides a stream URL and stream key, which you enter in the encoder or service that sends the feed. Keep the key private: anyone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to your channel. Follow YouTube’s current encoder setup instructions for the applicable interface and key controls.

Plan for archives, rewind, and rights
Do not rely on YouTube to archive a broadcast longer than 12 hours
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. For a longer continuous broadcast, do not assume a complete replay will appear automatically: make a separate recording and confirm current behavior in YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.
Viewer rewind can be limited on very long streams
YouTube’s DVR documentation warns that pause and rewind may be limited or unavailable on very long streams, including broadcasts longer than 12 hours. If viewers need to revisit earlier material, provide a separate recording or shorter program segments rather than promising that live DVR will always work. See YouTube’s DVR guidance.
Confirm rights before looping a recording
A video being prerecorded does not make it cleared for continuous public broadcast. Confirm that you control or have permission for the video, music, images, and any other material in it. YouTube’s rules and rights-management systems still apply to live streams. For channel eligibility and restrictions, review YouTube’s live-streaming guidance; for a practical preflight, use StreamNeo’s copyright safety checklist.
Test the full viewing path before launch
Whether you use a cloud loop or encoder-fed simulcast, run a test before announcing the channel. YouTube recommends checking the stream preview and health, monitoring audio and video, and verifying that viewers can reach the event. Follow its encoder streaming guidance.
- Confirm the correct YouTube channel, scheduled event or live destination, and stream key.
- Check picture, sound, and playback continuity in the YouTube preview and from a viewer’s perspective.
- Verify the loop count and maximum duration in the service you selected; do not treat a finite event cap as an automatic restart guarantee.
- Decide how you will record the broadcast separately if you need a complete archive for a stream longer than 12 hours.
- Check your rights to every element in the recording before making it public.
Troubleshooting common setup failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube will not let the channel go live | The channel is not verified, has a live-streaming restriction within the last 90 days, or first-time activation is still processing. | Check eligibility in YouTube Studio, complete verification, resolve any restriction, and allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation before the planned launch. YouTube setup guidance |
| An encoder or service cannot connect | The stream URL or key may be missing, incorrect, or associated with another event or channel. | Recheck the destination and copy the current URL and key from YouTube into the sending service; avoid exposing the key. YouTube encoder setup |
| The Restream loop ends before the channel can run indefinitely | The documented feature has a maximum 40-hour stream and up to 10 loops. | Plan within those limits or choose a service whose current terms explicitly support the unattended duration and restart behavior you need. Restream loop limits |
| The live stream has no complete replay, or viewers cannot rewind far back | The broadcast exceeded 12 hours, where automatic archive or DVR rewind may not provide the expected result. | Keep a separate recording and tell viewers where to find it; do not promise a full YouTube replay or rewind for a very long stream. Archive guidance; DVR guidance |
| A broadcast is interrupted or content is restricted | A destination connection may have dropped, or the recording may contain material you are not authorized to stream. | Check YouTube’s stream health and current notices, inspect the service’s recovery controls, and verify rights for all recorded content before restarting. |
Which one should you choose?
- Choose Restream when you specifically need documented prerecorded looping for a finite session, and its paid feature’s 10-loop and 40-hour maximums meet your requirements.
- Consider Dacast when the job is live encoder ingest and simulcasting; get written confirmation before relying on it for uploaded prerecorded looping.
- Consider StreamNeo when you want uploaded video to keep a YouTube channel live from the cloud without leaving a computer running; its stated workflow includes looping, playlists, and recovery if YouTube drops the stream.
The available documentation does not support a reliable price winner for a like-for-like continuous prerecorded YouTube channel: Restream looping is paid and plan-dependent, while the cited Dacast materials do not identify a plan for that workflow. Compare the exact feature, duration, and restart terms you need before paying.
