Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →To loop lofi music in a YouTube Live stream, have FFmpeg repeat a local media input, read it at real-time speed, encode a continuous audio-and-video feed, and send it to the stream URL and key from YouTube Studio. The command below is a starting template for a video file that already contains the music; check your installed FFmpeg options and test the actual feed before relying on it.
What you need before starting
- FFmpeg installed on a computer that can remain powered on and connected for the length of the broadcast.
- A local video file containing both the lofi audio and a visual. If audio and visuals are separate, you will need to map the intended streams explicitly and test their timing and loop behavior.
- A YouTube live event and its current stream URL and stream key from YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room.
- Upload bandwidth appropriate for the resolution and bitrate you choose. Leave headroom for normal network variation.
Use music and visuals you have the right to broadcast. A successful encoder connection does not grant copyright permission or guarantee that a channel meets YouTube’s monetization requirements.
Prepare the FFmpeg command
Check your FFmpeg build
FFmpeg options apply according to their position: input options go before the matching -i, while output options go before the output target. For a local file, -re reads at native rate (the same as -readrate 1) so FFmpeg sends packets at real-time pace. Do not apply a low read rate to an input that is already a live capture or stream; doing so can cause packet loss.
For indefinite looping, the commonly used option is -stream_loop -1 before the input it should repeat. The captured current FFmpeg manual material does not establish this option’s definition, so confirm availability and syntax in your installed build with ffmpeg -h full before using it. FFmpeg’s option placement and real-time input guidance are documented in the FFmpeg command-line documentation.

Starting template for a file with audio and video
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i lofi_visual_with_audio.mp4
-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -tune zerolatency
-pix_fmt yuv420p -r 30 -g 60 -keyint_min 60 -sc_threshold 0
-b:v 3000k -maxrate 3000k -bufsize 6000k
-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100
-f flv "rtmp://SERVER/APP/STREAM_KEY"
This is an illustrative starting point, not a tested command or a universal YouTube profile. Replace lofi_visual_with_audio.mp4 with your file and replace the output address with the event’s current ingest URL and stream key. Do not publish or share the key: it authorizes sending video to your event.
Choose output settings for your video
YouTube currently recommends RTMP or RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval (no more than four seconds), and AAC or MP3 audio when using RTMP/RTMPS. Its guidance specifies 128 Kbps and 44.1 kHz for stereo audio. The example uses those audio settings and a two-second GOP at 30 fps; its video bitrate, frame rate, encoder preset, and other values are examples only. Adjust them for your chosen resolution, frame rate, encoder support, and available upload capacity. Consult YouTube’s live encoder settings for current recommendations and test before going live.

Loop separate audio and visuals
If your lofi track and visual are different files, provide both as inputs and explicitly map the intended audio and video streams. Do not assume FFmpeg will automatically select the right tracks. Mismatched durations, unsupported codecs, timestamps, or a visual input that ends can stop the output or produce errors. Filter and shortest-stream behavior depends on how the inputs are combined, so there is no universal combined command that can be treated as guaranteed without testing against your FFmpeg version and files.
Make a short private or unlisted test first. Confirm that the music repeats cleanly at the file boundary, the visual remains continuous, and the stream does not end when one input reaches its duration. If the output terminates or audio and video drift, inspect the inputs and revise the stream mapping and timing before scheduling a public broadcast.

- PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
Connect FFmpeg to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, create or select the live event and open Live Control Room.
- Copy that event’s stream URL and stream key into the FFmpeg output target as appropriate for the ingest address YouTube provides. YouTube describes the key as the credential/address an encoder uses to send its feed.
- Run the command from a terminal on the machine holding the media file. Keep the machine and its network connection available while FFmpeg is streaming.
- Wait for the preview and stream-health information in Live Control Room. Start the event according to its auto-start configuration.
- Listen for audio, confirm the video is moving or otherwise continuous as intended, and watch the stream-health dashboard during the broadcast.
If you believe the key has been exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and replace the value used by FFmpeg. YouTube’s setup guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume a complete archive for a longer run based on that statement alone. If preserving the whole broadcast matters, check current YouTube policy and consider a local recording or segmented events. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
Troubleshoot common failures
- YouTube never receives the feed: Check that the event is live and that the URL and key belong to that event. Make sure the key was copied correctly and has not been reset.
- The stream connects but reports errors: Read the Live Control Room error details. YouTube identifies issues such as incorrect format or codec, bitrate, and keyframe frequency; correct the relevant output settings rather than changing unrelated options.
- The file plays too fast or FFmpeg sends a burst: For a local file, put
-rebefore its-iinput so it is read at native rate. - A live capture drops packets: Do not throttle an already-live input with a low read rate. The real-time pacing option is intended for file inputs that must be delivered as a live feed.
- The broadcast stops at a loop boundary: Verify that the loop option is supported in your installed FFmpeg build and appears before the input it should repeat. For separate inputs, check whether the other stream ends first and test the composition.
- There is no sound or the wrong stream appears: Inspect the source file’s streams and use explicit
-mapoptions to select the intended audio and video. - Audio or video looks unstable: Test representative moving visuals and audio, check upload capacity against your selected bitrate, and review YouTube’s health messages. YouTube Help advises: “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.”
Keep the stream running: computer, VPS, or cloud
With FFmpeg on your own computer, the process depends on that computer, its power, and its network connection. A VPS is another possible place to run an encoder continuously, but you must arrange uptime and restart supervision, upload bandwidth, access to media files, and hosting costs. That is an operational alternative, not a YouTube requirement.
