Choose OBS if you want a no-charge, locally controlled setup and can leave your computer and internet connection running. Choose Gyre if you want its cloud servers to keep a prerecorded-video stream running without your computer. For another cloud option, StreamNeo keeps a YouTube stream running from uploaded videos, with any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot and a free first day.

Gyre vs. OBS: the practical difference

OBS is an encoder running on your computer: it plays the media source and sends the stream to YouTube. Gyre is a cloud-hosted service: it says its servers receive and forward your files, so the computer you used to set up the stream can be switched off. YouTube lists OBS as open-source streaming software and Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 live streaming of prerecorded videos. That listing describes the tools, not a guarantee about a channel’s eligibility, stream performance, monetization, or reach. YouTube’s encoder guide · Gyre’s cloud-streaming guide

What matters OBS Gyre
Where playback and streaming happen On the creator’s computer through OBS media sources. OBS Media Sources On Gyre’s cloud servers, according to the vendor. Gyre guide
Looping Loop one file with Media Source, or loop a playlist with VLC Video. Cloud playlists and continuous looping are advertised by the service.
Computer during the broadcast Must remain on with OBS and a working internet connection for the local encoder to keep sending. Gyre says its servers transmit the stream, so your computer need not stay on.
Cost model YouTube describes OBS as open-source software available at no charge. Trial and paid subscription plans; check the current terms and limits on Gyre’s homepage.
Capacity and limits Not stated as a fixed plan limit in the cited OBS and YouTube pages; your computer and connection are part of the setup. Plan-dependent limits are advertised; confirm current stream counts, storage, resolution, and other terms on Gyre’s homepage.
Main trade-off No software charge, but you maintain the local machine, connection, and stream. Unattended cloud operation, but with recurring service cost, plan limits, and reliance on a third-party service.

When OBS is the better choice

OBS makes sense when you want direct control of a local scene and can keep the machine that runs it online. It supports looping a single video directly, and a playlist through its VLC Video source. The VLC source requires VLC to be installed. OBS’s Media Sources documentation, dated January 11, 2022, lists common formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, AVI, and WebM; check the current documentation if your file behaves differently. OBS Media Sources

Loop one video with Media Source

  1. In OBS, create or select a scene, then add a Media Source and point it to the prerecorded video file.
  2. In the source’s properties, enable Loop so playback starts again when the file ends.
  3. Connect OBS to the YouTube live broadcast using YouTube’s encoder workflow. YouTube describes an encoder as software or hardware that converts video into a stream-ready digital format; follow the live setup and stream-key instructions shown in YouTube Studio for your channel. YouTube: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder
  4. Keep OBS running, along with the computer and its internet connection, while you want the broadcast to continue.

Loop multiple videos with VLC Video

  1. Install VLC, then add a VLC Video source in the OBS scene. OBS says this source depends on VLC being installed.
  2. Add the video files to the source’s playlist and enable Loop Playlist. OBS also documents a shuffle control if you want the playlist order randomized.
  3. Connect the scene to YouTube through the encoder workflow and leave the computer, OBS, and connection running for the broadcast.

OBS documents these looping controls but the cited pages do not specify a universal bitrate, resolution, or keyframe setting for every channel and video. Use the encoder settings and stream health guidance presented for your YouTube broadcast rather than treating one fixed configuration as appropriate to every source and connection. When Gyre is the better choice

Gyre suits a creator who prioritizes an unattended, cloud-hosted loop over local scene control. The vendor describes uploading or selecting files, arranging a playlist, and configuring the stream in its service; it advertises cloud storage, a converter, playlists, and a scheduler. Its servers send the stream, so the setup computer is not involved in keeping the broadcast running. Gyre’s guide

Cloud-loop workflow

  1. Upload or select the prerecorded files in Gyre and arrange them into the playlist you want.
  2. Configure the stream and schedule in Gyre, then connect or authorize the YouTube channel as the service directs.
  3. Before relying on a plan, check its current storage, resolution, simultaneous-stream count, watermark status, schedule features, supported destinations, trial terms, and price. These are plan and product terms that can change; see Gyre’s current plan table.
  4. Confirm the YouTube channel’s live-stream and monetization settings in YouTube Studio; a cloud service does not override channel eligibility or settings.

Copyright, archives, and monetization

Only stream video and audio you have permission to use. YouTube warns that third-party content can interrupt a live stream, and a Content ID claim may be applied after a completed stream if it is archived. Looping a file does not make its music, footage, or other material rights-cleared. YouTube: Copyright issues with live streams

Do not assume a continuous stream will earn money or improve recommendations. Monetization depends on the channel’s eligibility and settings as well as YouTube’s decisions. Gyre’s September 29, 2026 update says monetization behavior for its YouTube API automation can depend on channel defaults; treat this as vendor guidance and verify the actual controls in YouTube Studio.
