Choose how the videos should change
Switch at a particular clock time
Use Advanced Scene Switcher’s date-and-time condition with a switch-scene action. Create a separate macro for each scheduled event—for example, one to show a scene at 1:00 PM and another to change scenes at 2:00 PM. The plugin listing confirms these condition and action types are available, but does not document a complete repeating-daily configuration for every version or setup. Switch when a video ends
If the next video should start after the current one finishes, use media playback state or a media-ended trigger rather than a clock-time condition. A community-described workflow uses a VLC Video Source with video files added as a playlist, then uses Advanced Scene Switcher to react to playback and change scenes. This is clip-driven, not a way to guarantee that a particular video starts at 1:00 PM. Check the behavior with your installed OBS and plugin versions; the community example is not a complete current walkthrough for a recurring daily playlist.

Check compatibility first
The OBS Project Forums listing for Advanced Scene Switcher 1.36.1, last updated August 7, 2026, lists OBS Studio 31.1.1 as the minimum and Windows, macOS, and Linux as supported platforms. Check the current plugin listing before installing, since version requirements can change.

Use the installer for your OBS installation
- Open the Advanced Scene Switcher resource page on the OBS Project Forums and select “Go to download.”
- Choose the Windows or macOS installer that matches your system and OBS installation.
- For Linux, the project repository describes a Flatpak installation route for users whose OBS installation is also Flatpak. Follow the repository’s current instructions rather than copying older commands from forum posts: Advanced Scene Switcher project repository.
- Open OBS and confirm the plugin is available before building the schedule. If it does not appear, verify that you installed it for the same OBS installation you are launching.
Build clock-time scene changes
- Prepare the scenes. In OBS, create a separate scene for each scheduled segment and add the video or other sources that segment needs. Give scenes names that make the schedule easy to check.
- Open Advanced Scene Switcher. In the plugin, create a macro for the first scheduled change.
- Set the time condition. Choose its date-and-time condition and enter the intended time for the change. The plugin listing establishes that date-and-time conditions are supported, but exact controls may vary by installed version.
- Set the action. Add a switch-scene action and select the scene that should appear at that time.
- Repeat for each event. Create a distinct macro for every scheduled change, pairing each time with its intended scene or source action.
- Test the boundary. Before relying on the schedule on a public stream, verify that each macro fires at the intended local or system time and that the expected scene becomes active.
Confirm how your particular version interprets the clock and any recurrence settings. The plugin listing establishes the building blocks, not a tested recipe covering every timezone, daily repeat, or recovery scenario.
Set up a video sequence that advances at clip end
- Add a VLC Video Source. In the scene where the sequence should play, add the source and add the video files in the order you want them to play.
- Decide how scene changes fit the playlist. If the sequence should move to another scene after a clip finishes, configure Advanced Scene Switcher to react to media playback state or clip completion and perform the needed scene-switch action.
- Test starts and returns. Check whether the next item starts as expected and whether OBS returns to the intended scene or source after playback. Do not assume a playlist transition and a scene transition behave identically.
- Test looping and failures. Run the complete arrangement through its loop, including what should happen if a clip or source fails. An OBS community responder specifically recommends testing the complete looping setup before relying on it.
Community posts describe this VLC-and-automation approach, but they are practical examples rather than authoritative, version-specific documentation. Verify it with your actual files and software before using it on a continuous stream.

Test the schedule before trusting a 24/7 stream
- Use a private or otherwise safe-to-interrupt stream while testing.
- Confirm each scheduled change against the system time OBS and the plugin are using.
- Check the active scene at each boundary, not only whether the macro appears to run.
- For media-driven changes, verify playback start, end behavior, scene return, and looping.
- Simulate or observe a missing or failed source so you know what the viewer sees and what recovery is needed.
There is no established success rate or reliability guarantee for scheduled scene changes in the cited material. A schedule should be treated as unverified until the full set of transitions and loops has been tested in your configuration.
Common problems and fixes
The plugin does not appear in OBS
Check that the installed plugin version supports your OBS version, then confirm you used the installer or installation route for the OBS instance you actually launch. Advanced Scene Switcher 1.36.1 lists OBS Studio 31.1.1 as its minimum.

A scene does not change at the expected time
Recheck the macro’s date-and-time condition, selected scene action, and the system time OBS is running under. Test again at a known upcoming boundary; the available listing does not establish how every recurring schedule or timezone configuration behaves.
The next video does not start after the current clip
Check that the VLC playlist contains the intended files in the intended order, then verify the media-state or media-ended trigger and its action. Test the complete loop, including the behavior after the final item.

A scheduled change works once but not on the next loop
Do not assume a one-time test proves the recurring arrangement. Test through the return point and another complete cycle, checking whether the media source and scene are reset as your setup requires.
