If OBS keeps disconnecting from YouTube during a 24/7 stream, start by checking the connection between your computer and YouTube’s ingest server—not by assuming OBS itself is broken. Compare OBS Stats and its log with YouTube Live Control Room’s stream-health status, then test whether your outbound connection can reliably sustain your encoder settings. The exact cause depends on those logs, error messages, and network conditions.
1. Capture evidence from OBS and YouTube
Check both ends of the stream while it is failing, or immediately after it reconnects. A timestamp helps you match OBS events to YouTube’s report.
- In OBS, open View > Stats. Note the dropped frames figure and category. Network-related dropped frames point toward a connection problem; rendering or encoding lag points to a different bottleneck.
- Find the OBS session log. In OBS, use Help > Log Files > View Current Log (or Upload Current Log if you need to share it). Look around the failure time for connection, reconnect, or network messages.
- Open YouTube Studio > Create > Go live and check the Live Control Room’s stream health. Record the status and exact error text; YouTube’s health messages may include specific instructions.
OBS describes dropped frames and intermittent disconnections as evidence of a network issue between the computer and the remote ingest server. That does not, by itself, identify whether the cause is the local network, ISP, route, or ingest endpoint.
2. Check whether the upload connection can sustain the stream
Measure upload capacity—not download speed—on the same connection and, as far as possible, under the same conditions as the broadcast. YouTube recommends leaving about 20% upload headroom above the stream’s bitrate. Other users and devices sharing the connection can consume that margin, and a brief speed-test result does not prove the connection is stable over time.

- Compare the measured available upload capacity with the bitrate OBS is sending.
- Repeat the check during the times disconnections occur, and note whether other devices or uploads are active.
- If capacity or stability is inadequate, reduce the stream bitrate or output demands and test again. Choose settings according to the codec, resolution, and frame rate rather than treating one bitrate as universal.
3. Use encoder settings YouTube recommends
In OBS, open Settings > Output and review the streaming encoder options, then open Settings > Video to check the output resolution and frame rate. The exact bitrate depends on those choices and the codec; use YouTube’s encoder settings guide for the matching combination rather than copying a number intended for a different format.
- Rate control: use CBR (constant bitrate), as YouTube recommends for encoder streams.
- Keyframe interval: set 2 seconds; YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds.
- Bitrate: keep it within what the outbound connection can sustain with headroom. If it cannot, lower the bitrate or reduce resolution or frame rate.
Change one setting at a time and monitor OBS Stats and YouTube stream health through a sufficiently long test. A configuration that works for a short session may still fail under sustained load.

4. Review OBS network options carefully
OBS’s connection troubleshooting guide recommends leaving Bind to IP at Default. Other settings are tests or fallbacks, not guaranteed fixes:
- Network Optimizations and TCP pacing are options documented by OBS; TCP pacing is Windows-only. Test changes individually and check whether the symptoms change.
- IPv4-only: try it as a diagnostic test if appropriate, and revert it if it does not help.
- Dynamic Bitrate: this can lower bitrate when network conditions deteriorate, which may reduce dropped frames but also lowers quality. It does not repair the underlying connection problem.
After each change, compare the same evidence: OBS Stats, the log at the failure time, and YouTube’s stream-health message. Avoid changing several options together, since that makes it difficult to tell what mattered.

5. Isolate local software, hardware, and cabling
Security software, VPNs, bundled network utilities, or hardware problems can interfere with a connection. Test one variable at a time. If temporarily disabling security software is necessary for diagnosis, keep the test brief, restore protection promptly, and make only a narrowly scoped OBS exception if the test identifies a block.
If OBS is connected by Ethernet, trying a known-good cable is a low-cost way to rule out a suspect cable. It will not solve congestion, router faults, ISP instability, or a problem elsewhere on the route to YouTube. Do not assume the cable is at fault without evidence.

6. Contact your ISP when evidence points to the outbound connection
If OBS reports network drops, YouTube reports an ingest or connection problem, and tests show insufficient or unstable upload, contact your ISP. Share the failure timestamps, relevant OBS log entries, upload test results, and the exact Live Control Room error. This gives support concrete evidence rather than a general report that the stream disconnects.
7. Protect a 24/7 operation from a single failure
Test a backup encoder
YouTube recommends preparing a backup encoder and testing failover. Its suggested test is to stop the primary encoder or unplug its Ethernet cable, then confirm that the player rolls over to the backup. Do this during a planned test window so an intentional interruption does not surprise viewers. A backup improves resilience; it does not diagnose or repair the primary connection.
Keep a local recording
Interruption and archive loss are separate risks. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. That warning concerns YouTube’s archive behavior; it does not mean YouTube necessarily disconnects a stream at 12 hours. For a long-running broadcast whose recording matters, maintain a local archive as well.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is continuous playback of uploaded videos rather than a live camera or desktop feed, StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on; it streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream, and the first day is free with no card. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. UPI is available in India, and cards are accepted worldwide. Start the free day on StreamNeo.
