Start with the exact warning in YouTube Live Control Room, then check the audio stream FFmpeg actually sends—not just the input file. For a typical stereo podcast, a well-supported baseline is one AAC audio stream, two channels, 44.1 kHz, and 128 Kbps. YouTube’s published live-ingestion guidance does not specify different audio settings for India; location alone is not evidence of an audio-configuration fault.
Identify what YouTube says is wrong
Copy the full warning from Live Control Room before changing settings. YouTube’s live-stream error guidance distinguishes problems such as missing audio, multiple audio streams, unsupported codecs, incorrect sample rates, audio bitrate that is too high or low, and more than two channels. Those messages point to different fixes, so changing several options at once can obscure the cause.
- No audio stream: YouTube requires exactly one audio stream in the ingest.
- Multiple audio streams: Check whether FFmpeg mapped more than one track from the input.
- Unsupported codec: Use AAC or MP3 for RTMP/RTMPS audio; YouTube recommends AAC in its encoder settings.
- Sample-rate or bitrate warning: Compare the outgoing values with YouTube’s guidance and the specific warning.
- Channel warning: YouTube’s cited live-ingestion guidance supports mono or stereo, not more than two channels.
YouTube Help describes a no-audio error this way: “Your encoder is sending no audio. On some encoders there’s a tick box to turn on audio. YouTube’s pipeline requires audio on all videos.” A valid audio track in the source file does not prove that the outgoing stream contains it.
Inspect the input, mapping, and FFmpeg output
Check which audio track is selected
FFmpeg selects streams automatically unless you specify otherwise. If a recording has commentary, music, and alternate-language tracks, the automatically selected stream may not be the one you intend—or the output may contain more audio streams than YouTube expects. Use -map to select the intended video and audio streams explicitly, and verify the output stream list.

Check the settings applied to the output audio
For audio, the options most relevant to this diagnosis are -c:a for codec, -b:a for bitrate, -ar for sample rate, and -ac for channel count. Confirm they apply to the intended output stream and that the resulting output has the expected values. Option placement and exact syntax can depend on the command and installed FFmpeg version; consult the FFmpeg documentation for that version.
For example, if the input’s first video stream and first audio stream are the correct ones, this output-option pattern explicitly selects them and requests a stereo AAC track:

This is an illustrative fragment, not a complete or tested YouTube streaming command. A podcast-only audio source may need a video source or still image because YouTube Live expects video as well. The complete command also depends on the input, container, protocol, and current YouTube ingest settings. Verify the actual output and Live Control Room status rather than treating these options as a guarantee.

Set a supported baseline for a stereo podcast
YouTube’s encoder settings list 44.1 kHz for stereo and recommend 128 Kbps for stereo. Its guidance lists AAC as the recommended audio codec, while RTMP/RTMPS supported audio codecs include AAC and MP3. For a typical stereo podcast, start with one AAC stream, 44.1 kHz, two channels, and 128 Kbps, then check the exact YouTube warning and output values.
YouTube’s encoder settings also list 48 kHz and recommend 384 Kbps for 5.1 surround. However, the cited live-ingestion Help and API guidance says the documented path supports no more than two audio channels. Do not switch a podcast to 5.1 based only on the encoder-settings figures; follow the applicable Live Control Room error and channel requirements.

- Record the exact warning. Note whether it names codec, stream count, sample rate, bitrate, or channels.
- Inspect the FFmpeg command. Look for automatic stream selection or multiple
-mapentries that select audio. - Inspect the outgoing audio. Confirm codec, sample rate, bitrate, channel count, and that there is exactly one audio stream.
- Change only the relevant setting or mapping. For ordinary stereo, use the baseline above unless the specific warning calls for something else.
- Test before the event and monitor stream health. YouTube recommends testing encoder settings before a live event and watching Live Control Room while streaming.
Match primary and backup audio settings
If you use primary and backup ingestion, compare the audio on both outputs. YouTube identifies mismatches in codec, sample rate, channel configuration, or bitrate between the primary and backup streams as potential problems. Align those values and verify that each output carries exactly one audio stream.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Interpret stream health without guessing
The YouTube Live Streaming API reports health states such as good, ok, bad, or noData, with typed configuration issues when available. A noData result means the backend has no stream-health information; by itself, it does not show that the audio codec is at fault. Use the specific health message alongside the outgoing stream details.

What India changes—and what it does not
The YouTube documentation cited here describes YouTube-wide live-ingestion requirements; it does not establish separate audio codec, sample-rate, channel, or bitrate settings for streams sent from India. Do not attribute an audio mapping or codec error to the broadcast’s location without evidence. Hardware, ISP upload stability, and routing can matter in an individual case, but these audio configuration facts alone do not establish a local network cause. If the symptoms suggest a connection problem, use YouTube’s stream-health information and run an upload test as YouTube recommends.
Troubleshoot persistent errors
If the same warning remains after checking the outgoing stream, retain the evidence needed to isolate it rather than repeatedly changing settings. Remove the stream key before sharing any command or log.
- The complete FFmpeg command with the stream key removed
- The FFmpeg version
- Relevant log lines around the warning or output startup
- The input stream listing and the output stream listing
- The exact YouTube Live Control Room error or health message
These details help distinguish a source-track or mapping problem from an output-encoding issue. Without the command, logs, stream listings, and YouTube status, the cause of a particular failure cannot be established.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your podcast is a prerecorded video you want to keep looping as a YouTube live stream, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload the video, add your YouTube stream key, and go live.
