A Super Chat marked Cancelled was not charged; one marked Refunded should be credited to the original payment method. YouTube describes Super Chats as voluntary, non-refundable payments, but its public help pages do not explain why a particular purchase was automatically cancelled or refunded. Check the transaction status, receipt and billing route before deciding what happened.
First, check whether the purchase was cancelled or refunded
These statuses describe different outcomes. YouTube says an order marked Cancelled was not charged. An order marked Refunded should have a corresponding credit on the payment method used. Review the transaction in your Google payments account, then compare it with your card, bank or other payment account. See YouTube’s refund troubleshooting guidance.
A pending card entry or an app error does not by itself establish that you were charged and refunded. Use the transaction record and payment account together to confirm the outcome.
Why might YouTube cancel or refund a Super Chat?
YouTube’s public help pages do not give a universal explanation for automatic Super Chat cancellations or refunds. Unless YouTube support confirms a transaction-specific cause, do not assume it was a bank decline, fraud check, app problem or any other particular issue.

There is also an important policy distinction: Super Chats and Super Stickers are voluntary payments, and YouTube says they are non-refundable. A message that failed to appear, was removed or was moderated does not by itself mean the payment qualifies for a refund. YouTube says moderated or removed Super Chats do not generate refunds. Its guidance also says Super Chats are paid interactions in live chat, not crowdfunding or donation tools. Read YouTube’s refund policy and purchase guidance.
Check the receipt and identify who billed you
Find the emailed receipt and the matching transaction in your payment records. The billing route matters: some purchases made in the YouTube Android app are billed through Google Play, while purchases made through Apple billing must be taken to Apple for refund requests. What to do, in order
- Open Google payments and locate the Super Chat transaction. Note whether the status says Cancelled or Refunded. A cancellation means YouTube says the order was not charged; a refund means a credit should appear on the payment method.
- Check the receipt. Confirm the purchase details and identify whether Google/YouTube, Google Play or Apple handled billing.
- Compare the transaction with the original payment account. If the record says Refunded but the credit is not visible, YouTube says most refunds are processed within five working days. Some payment methods can take longer; check the applicable timeline for the method used and the status in Google payments.
- Contact the appropriate support channel if the record is unclear. For a cancelled order, an app error or a transaction that does not appear completed, contact YouTube support with the receipt or transaction details. For an Apple-billed purchase, request help from Apple. Provide the transaction date, amount, status and billing route, and avoid sharing full card details in an ordinary support message.
- Report a charge no one authorized. If you and other people with access to the account did not make the purchase, use YouTube’s unauthorized-charge reporting process. YouTube says digital purchase charges can be reported within 120 days. Its guidance recommends checking whether a family member made the purchase and enabling purchase verification to help prevent unauthorized purchases.
What not to confuse with a payment problem
- A moderated message: moderation or removal does not, by itself, mean a Super Chat payment will be refunded.
- A cancelled order: YouTube says it was not charged; it is not a refund still travelling to your account.
- An unauthorized charge: this has a separate reporting process and should not be treated as an ordinary refund request.
- A missing credit: check the refund status and the original payment method’s processing timeline before concluding the refund failed.
