What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Possibly—but only if you have rights to that particular recording and those rights cover the way you plan to use it. Confirm that permission includes live streaming on YouTube, looping or editing where relevant, the territories where viewers can access the stream, monetization if planned, and an archived replay if you enable one. A natural sound or a recording anyone can play online is not automatically free to reuse.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. Even a licensed track can lead to interruption if its rights holder has not allowlisted your channel. Because the recording and its license are unspecified, no one can determine from the title alone whether a particular monsoon recording is cleared.
Why a rain recording can still be copyrighted
Copyright concerns the recording, not just whether the sound itself—rainfall—is ordinary or naturally occurring. India’s Copyright Act lists sound recordings as a protected class of work and provides rights that include making another sound recording embodying it and communicating the recording to the public. Treat an existing recording as rights-bearing unless you can verify reliable documentation for its use.
That means a recording found on a video-sharing site, social media, or a sound-effects page is not cleared simply because it is publicly accessible, sounds like nature, or has no audible music. The uploader may not be the recorder or rights holder, and a repost does not establish a license.

What permission must cover
YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions place responsibility on the provider to have the necessary rights for exploitation of live content on Google services throughout the world. The terms also contemplate archived content. Ask for permission that matches the entire intended use, not merely permission to download or listen to the audio.
- Live transmission: permission to stream the recording on YouTube.
- Replay or archive: permission for the recording to remain in the archived stream, if you enable archiving.
- Looping and edits: permission to repeat, trim, mix, fade, or otherwise modify the recording as needed.
- Commercial use: permission for monetization, sponsorship, or other commercial use if applicable.
- Territory: the places where the stream and replay will be available. Do not assume a local permission covers worldwide availability.
- Attribution: any required credit, wording, or placement.
- Content ID handling: whether the rights holder can allowlist your channel to reduce the risk of an automated live interruption.
Keep the license or written permission and any required credit details. If a commercial use is high-stakes, have a qualified lawyer review the grant and the circumstances.

Why YouTube may interrupt a stream even with permission
YouTube says it scans all live streams for matches to third-party content. Its copyright guidance for live streams explains that a match can trigger a warning and placeholder image; if the material remains, the stream may be interrupted or terminated.
Licensing and platform enforcement are separate questions. YouTube says licensed third-party content can still cause an interruption if the rights holder has not added the channel to its Content ID allowlist. Ask the owner about allowlisting before going live; having a license does not itself establish that the channel is allowlisted.

A replay has a separate practical risk: YouTube says Content ID claims are made after a live stream ends if the creator archives it. Make sure the permission covers the archived use too, and check the replay for claims after the broadcast.
Using a Creative Commons recording
YouTube’s license guidance explains that the Creative Commons Attribution option permits reuse subject to CC BY terms. Check the license on the original asset, not just a label or description on a repost. YouTube says suggested attribution details include the title, author, source URL, and license information. Include any required credit in the video description or stream credits.

- Relaxing Rain: Natural Rain Sounds for Sleeping and Stress Relief (Nature Sounds, Deep Sleep Music, Meditation, Relaxation Sounds of Soft Falling Rain) by Rest & Relax Nature Artist Series
Monetization is possible only when the license grants commercial rights. A CC label does not remove its conditions, and YouTube cannot grant permission for someone else’s upload. If the license or source is unclear, do not treat the recording as cleared.
Before you go live: a rights checklist
- Identify the original recorder or producer and the current rights holder. Do not rely solely on the uploader’s claim on a repost.
- Read and save the license, or obtain written permission from the rights holder.
- Confirm that it covers YouTube live transmission and an archived replay if you plan to keep one.
- Confirm permissions for looping, trimming, mixing, and other edits you intend to make.
- Check commercial-use, territory, and attribution terms; add the required credits.
- Ask whether the recording is in Content ID and request that the rights holder allowlist your channel if needed.
- If you cannot verify suitable permission, choose a recording with clear terms or make an original recording.
Does recording the rain yourself solve the issue?
Making an original recording can reduce uncertainty about who created the recording, but it does not settle every possible rights or location-access issue. It is an alternative when you cannot clear an existing asset, not proof that every recording made outdoors is automatically free of restrictions.
