Maryland forward/center Pharrel Payne was reported cleared to participate in all basketball activities on October 2, 2026. That report does not confirm he will play in a particular game.
What is confirmed about Payne’s status?
RotoWire reported on October 2 that Payne, listed with a leg injury, was “available for all basketball activities,” citing Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports. This is a report of clearance for basketball activities, not a Maryland announcement or confirmation that Payne is game-ready.
The available information does not establish a return date, a minutes limit, or whether he will appear in an upcoming game. It also does not identify the underlying injury diagnosis or provide a medical prognosis.
When could Payne return to a game?
Maryland’s 2026–27 schedule page lists exhibition games against Georgia Tech on October 11 and West Virginia on October 18, 2026. Those dates are scheduled exhibitions, not confirmation that Payne will play in either game. Check the team’s updates or game-day lineup information for a specific participation decision.

The 2025–26 roster record likewise lists 17.5 points and 7.2 rebounds per game in 10 games, and says he started all 10.
