Is Mike Evans playing Sunday?
His status was unresolved as of Friday, Oct. 2. The 49ers’ official injury report listed Evans as questionable, and the team said it would announce game-day availability 90 minutes before kickoff. “Game-time decision” describes a pending call; it does not confirm that Evans will be active.
The 49ers’ Friday injury report lists Evans with a rib injury and records limited participation that day.
What happened to Evans?
Evans sustained the rib injury during San Francisco’s Week 3 win over Arizona. He missed Wednesday and Thursday practice before returning on a limited basis Friday. Available reports describe a rib injury or strained rib; they do not establish a severity grade or recovery timeline.

Evans said he hoped to play if he could tolerate the injury: “If there’s something I can play through, I’m going to be there for my team as best I can,” he told ABC7 San Francisco. NBC Sports also reported that he planned to wear a compression shirt with built-in padding; that apparel detail is not evidence of treatment or injury prevention.
What does his status mean for fantasy lineups?
Evans’s desire to play is not a substitute for an active designation. CBS Sports’ status report notes that the late-afternoon kickoff gives fantasy managers less flexibility if they wait for confirmation.

49ers roster and season context
The Associated Press reported that Evans had 12 catches for 137 yards and two touchdowns through the season’s first three games, as of its Oct. 2 report. That is a season-to-date figure, not a full-season total. AP also reported that San Francisco promoted Brandin Cooks to the active roster while Evans’s availability was uncertain. The move provides roster context, but does not establish Cooks as a guaranteed one-for-one replacement.
