Anthony Elanga was reported to be making rehabilitation progress during Newcastle United’s extended international break, but he was not confirmed fit for a return. In an October 2 update, RotoWire, citing Newcastle World’s Dominic Scurr, said Elanga hoped the break would help him move closer to full recovery from a hamstring injury; his availability for upcoming league fixtures remained uncertain.
What the October 2 update says
The report describes progress toward recovery, not a completed recovery. It does not confirm that Elanga had returned to full team training, become match-fit, or been cleared for selection. RotoWire’s summary of Scurr’s Newcastle World reporting is available on Elanga’s RotoWire player page.
What remains unknown
- The report does not give a confirmed date for Elanga’s return to training or matches.
- It does not state the injury’s grade or provide a new medical assessment from Newcastle United.
- Elanga’s availability for the upcoming league fixtures remained uncertain.
Those distinctions matter: rehabilitation progress does not by itself establish team-training status or match availability. The October 2 report supports only the first.
Earlier injury context
RotoWire’s page also carries older entries from September 14 and September 17. They report that Elanga had missed a match with an injury and was due to undergo an MRI. The September 17 entry attributes to Newcastle manager Matthias Jaissle the statement: “No real update on Anthony, spoke with him now, he is heading for an MRI scan. We will get more clarity after that and hope it’s not too serious. It is sad after the great start he had; he is a key strength in our squad; we want to stay positive”.

#1 Best Overall
- Bold disrupted stripe design with striking third colour bringing fresh energy to Newcastle's classic tradition and iconic identity
- Slim, athletic fit moving with you through training, matches, and everyday wear for dynamic Magpies supporters
- Climacool technology wicking sweat for cool, dry, distraction-free performance keeping you comfortable all day

That was an earlier comment while MRI results were pending, not a fresh assessment on October 2. RotoWire’s entry does not link to the original press-conference transcript, so it should be treated as historical context rather than a current club update.
How to interpret the next fixture listing
RotoWire’s Newcastle United team page lists a visit to Coventry on October 12. A fixture listing is not evidence that Elanga will be available for that match; his selection status would need a newer club or matchday update. See Newcastle United’s RotoWire team page for the schedule and team news.

What to watch for
- A club update confirming whether Elanga has resumed full team training.

RotoWire’s displayed estimated-return information is not a confirmed club date, and the estimates shown on the player page have differed. It should not be used as a scheduled comeback.
