Rust’s Livestock Update adds cows and sheep, and lets players turn refrigerated cow’s milk into skimmed milk and cream. Facepunch says cream is “a more powerful consumable”: in tea, milk generally extends an effect’s duration, while cream increases its potency. The update does not specify a numerical boost.
How do you get cream in Rust?
- Obtain milk from a cow. Facepunch says cows produce milk; the update also lets players capture wild livestock and raise animals.
- Refrigerate the milk for four hours, the in-game wait specified in Facepunch’s 1 October 2026 update.
- Skim the refrigerated milk to produce skimmed milk and cream.
Facepunch’s update describes these mechanics in its Livestock Update. It says milk can also be consumed directly.
What does cream do in Rust?
Facepunch’s update, in a milk section credited to Jarryd Campi, says: “Cream is a more powerful consumable.” In tea, the stated distinction is qualitative: milk generally extends the duration of tea effects, while cream increases their potency. The update gives no multiplier or exact values, so it does not establish how much stronger cream is.
The quoted line is part of the developer’s official update, not a separately recorded interview. Christopher Livingston’s PC Gamer report, published the same day, repeats the line and uses it as a humorous comparison.

What else do cows and sheep provide?

The shared outputs and animal resources are described in Facepunch’s update announcement. Livestock can be bred, with genetics and animal needs affecting the process.
How does selling livestock and wool work?
Players can bring grown animals to an NPC at a Stable for an offer. Facepunch says offers are randomized and depend on the animal’s gene quality. If a player rejects the initial offer and two additional offers, the vendor will refuse to buy another animal for 15 minutes.

The Stable also buys sheep wool. The offer depends on the amount brought in, and players can trade up to 400 wool in one go, according to the developer. These are game mechanics, not real-world measurements.

The update adds livestock fences and gates, as well as a Biofuel Generator. The generator processes organic matter into low-grade fuel; fuel output depends on the material’s calorific value, and the machine needs periodic hand stirring. Facepunch also notes smaller animals and other changes in its full update announcement.
