There is no verified microwave time for cooking uncooked canned cinnamon roll dough in a mug. The available product and safety instructions do not establish that this shortcut cooks reliably, so don’t treat it as a tested recipe or assume that a few seconds will make it safe to eat. For a microwave option with published directions, reheat a fully baked roll instead.
What the canned-dough instructions do—and don’t—say
Pillsbury lists its refrigerated Cinnamon Rolls with Original Icing as a five-count, 7.3-ounce can. That product listing identifies the dough and icing, but it does not give directions for microwaving an uncooked roll in a mug: Pillsbury Cinnamon Rolls with Original Icing (5 count).
Pillsbury does publish microwave directions for a different task: reheating one already-baked cinnamon roll on a microwave-safe plate for 30–45 seconds in its Easy Ultimate Cinnamon Rolls Recipe. That time is for reheating a baked roll, not cooking raw canned dough, so it should not be transferred to a mug recipe.
Why there isn’t a reliable time to give
Microwave results depend on the oven, portion, container, and arrangement. More importantly, the sources available here do not test uncooked canned dough in a mug or establish a doneness cue for that method. Naming a cook time or promising a particular texture would therefore imply a tested result that has not been established.

A separate Chobani Cinnamon Roll Mug Cake uses scratch dough and gives timing for that recipe. Its instructions are specific to its ingredients and method; they are not a substitute for testing canned dough.
Microwave safety basics
USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service guidance says, “Follow cooking instructions on product label (or recipe instructions).” It also advises using cookware made or labeled for microwave use. USDA: Cooking with Microwave Ovens.

Health Canada recommends microwave-safe cookware, accounting for differences in oven power, and allowing food to stand because microwaves can heat unevenly. Those are general microwave precautions, not validation of canned dough cooked in a mug. Health Canada: Food safety tips for microwaves.
- Follow the dough package directions; don’t invent a microwave time for uncooked dough.
- If heating food in a mug, use one labeled microwave-safe and leave room for expansion.
- Keep the icing packet out of the microwave unless its own packaging explicitly says it is microwave-safe. The product listing identifies icing but does not specify a heating method for the packet.
A microwave alternative with published directions
If you already have a baked cinnamon roll, Pillsbury’s recipe directs reheating one roll on a microwave-safe plate for 30–45 seconds. This is a reheating instruction for a fully baked roll, not a way to cook the canned dough in a mug. Follow the package or recipe directions for the product you are preparing.
